Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Peter Beinart: Republicans probably overestimate the traction they'll get from changing the color and accents of their pitchmen. ... But at least the GOP's new cult of racial and ethnic diversity bespeaks some recognition of the way America has changed. Where the party remains in deep denial is on the question of sexual orientation. For the Republican Party to truly compete in 21st-century America, it's going to need more than merely black and brown spokespeople. It's going to need openly gay and lesbian ones, too.

I hope the rethugs don't change----then the demorats will have to finally own the disintegration of the nation. One hundred years from now, "it's Bushes fault" should fall on impoverished deaf ears.

You guys on the right keep making jokes. See if that helps you win elections.

They may as well join the rest of the fecal matter circling the bowl.

LOL..

Once the destruction of the economy is complete and the looting starts with the decline of society, there wont be any elections, only mob rule.

In my opinion it doesn't make much sense, Beinart's statement, being that there are only about 4 million gays in the USA. Likewise there is a 'low' estimate of about 11 million illegal aliens in the USA. I would use the PC term 'undocumented workers' but honestly most of them do not work - although a lot of them do vote for some unknown obscure reason. On the matter of having "..from changing the color and accents of their pitchmen." I think that is appalling - because to me it sounds like a racist innuendo. To my knowledge no one running for any elective office in either party has been denied that office solely based upon their race, color, creed, gender, or sexual orientation.

I believe what the GOP needs to do is understand that all Americans really 'should' be treated equal - regardless if they are privileged or not. They should lead by example on many fronts; ie - disband any special interest groups. Put country be for politics - embrace the opposition with like minded goals of putting America's Health above all other pet projects.

C'mon! The Republicans had Roy Cohn long before the Dems even discovered gays.

....what he's saying is..... they need to start preaching what they practice ......

The GOP needs to adopt a wide stance.

You're right... Gays itself may not be worth changing their position. In order to ever consider getting the family/friends of those LGBT should be though. More and more friends and family are becoming very socially aware of politics on inequality. And the more and more they do, it will start to eat at their base even more.

Yes, many older people are voting conservatively on it, but as their children/grandchildren come out.. they are being challenged and their ideas are changing instead of losing their loved ones.

No. Look. My ex-wife picked out the furniture. I'm not crazy about it either, but I'm not looking for new drapes and sofas for awhile. And, just so you know--usually I just head over to "Rooms to Go" and say, that looks good, I'll take all that, just exactly like you've got it set up. Never saw much point in a decorator. Thanks though.
