The Colorado House passed universal background checks and limits on the size of ammunition magazines Monday in an attempt to address recent mass shootings like the one last year at an Aurora movie theater. The ammunition restrictions limit magazines to 15 rounds for firearms and eight for shotguns. "Enough is enough. I'm sick and tired of bloodshed," said state Rep. Rhonda Fields (D), a sponsor of the bill whose district includes and who lost her son to gun violence in 2005.

"Enough is enough. I'm sick and tired of bloodshed," said state Rep. Rhonda Fields (D), a sponsor of the bill whose district includes and who lost her son to gun violence in 2005."

Her son was murdered because he was about to testify against drug dealers in a trial. The police could not protect a obvious high profile target like this, yet they are presented as the solution to protect the innocent from criminals.

15 rounds for firearms and 8 for shotguns was found to be the safe level of ammo. Now that they've solved that one, no one in CO will ever be killed by a firearm again. Whew... I'm glad we have solutions.

Time for a parade and the unveiling of a bronze statue of the wise and caring leader who ended gun violence in Colorado. Like the current drug laws, the streets will be free of these dangerous commodities very soon :)

Today's 3D printing makes me think of the LED watches and Tandy TRS80 computers of the 1970's and the flip cellphones of the 1990's. If you think what they are doing with 3D printers costing $1000 today is cool, just imagine what the $250 units will be able to do in 10 years...provided we aren't setting traps down by the river to feed our families by then.

This is where the usuals confuse state "gubment" with the federal "gubment".

Chanting "states rights" has its consequences

Out right bans won't help. Guns should be regulated in the same way as automobiles. Yearly target qualifying and eye test. Safety inspections. Demerit point system. So you can suspend/revoke permits when they shoot them selves in the butt at wal-mart. A yearly registration fee to offset the high cost of their hobby. Mandatory liability insurance. If Jethro has to choose between paying his renewal or buying beer. Too bad.

I hope Colorado has enough state workers to handle all the gang bangers who will now register their illegal guns.

As long as I don't drive on public roads, cars aren't regulated.

Next stupid analogy.

The funny thing is, if NRA nuts like LaPierre had his way, the solution to the problem would be for the US government to make it mandatory for every person to own a firearm.

When has the NRA or any 2nd Amendment group advocated mandatory civilian gun ownership? I am not a huge NRA supporter but how about a link?

AKAT: If you follow the logic of LaPierre's statements as sheepishly repeated by people such as Zat, the solution to lawlessness and violence in society is to arm everyone. What do you think the whole Ciudad Juarez v. El Paso meme which Zat is always bleating is all about?

OMG, Corky.

These idiots in the Colorado House got a lot more attention than they wanted.

The Republican Party is in shambles in Colorado, but so much money is going to be poured into this state it's going to be unbelievable.

Colorado will probably be the state that the new Republican Party emerges.

You better hope not, or they will fail harder than the tea party did. Colorado is a nice place, but it's rural, low population (5 million+), and 88% white according to the census.

That sounds like the republican party we've had for too long.

the "meme" is for those with self-preservation instinct and situational awareness to be left alone

in addition, those lacking instinct and awareness should also be left alone... things will work themselves out

It appears to work in Switzerland, where military aged citizens are issued automatic rifles to be kept in their homes. Would you like me to post the crime statistics for Switzerland? In reality, I think a system like this would more adequately meet the intent of amendment 2, given that these types of rifles are priced too high for many poor people.

It's patently obvious to everybody that a 15 round limit would have prevented the Columbine massacre. It's not like they'd bring multiple guns and multiple magazines. That would never work...
