Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss died Monday in Los Angeles after a long battle with cancer. He was 80. Buss bought the Lakers for $16 million in 1979 and turned the team into a 10-time NBA champion. "He is a master at building a team," said Lakers great Magic Johnson at the time of Buss' induction into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2010. "He has put the Lakers right up there with the New York Yankees as the top brands in sports. He has been able to do so because he is one of the shrewdest businessmen you will ever meet. With him, it's never been about putting money in his pocket. It's always been about putting it back into the team."

Watching the Lakers now is what really killed him.

The major news channels were swarming over this story. I could not figure out why.
The response on this thread confirms that feeling.

The owner who won 10 championships while Jerry Jones could only muster 3.
Ironically enough, Jones was born in Los Angeles.

Fans of other teams would be lucky to have Buss. Hahahaha. Bunch of losers. RIP Dr. Buss.

"I could not figure out why."

That's because New Jersey has no pro sports teams.

P.S. Jerry Buss was nothing but class. Why isn't this on the front page instead of some talent-less country music hack?

RIP Dr. Buss. You were a good man and a gr8 NBA owner. Up and down the organization you hired top talent, from the front office personnel to the coaching staff to the players.

You did it right.

Much as the Lakers suck I can't help but thank him for giving us some Magic memories.

I met Dr. Buss while in my 20's. I fixed his washing machine. He was a great guy. He told me a couple funny stories while he watched me work and offered me a beer when I finished.

Great guy!

RIP
