I saw Django Unchained yesterday. Quentin Tarantino is an incredible filmmaker in complete control of his art, and that's an amazing movie, but man what an orgy of excessive violence.

finished "Killing Kennedy" by Bill O'Reilly (Martin Duggard).

Great book. I still don't know why Bill lied in the end regarding where he was when a former friend of Oswald committed suicide. That lie, even if never caught, added nothing to the book whatsoever.

Wow, what a life of indulgence JFK lived....

He was rumored to have some pretty hot and steamy White House swimming pool parties when Jackie was out of town.

Much like Kill Bill, the violence was so over the top it was almost comical.

Best line in the movie: "Cockadoodledoo, n-word"

Gotta love Bruce Dern.

I agree with Rcade about Tarantino. All that ultra realistic violence is a distraction from the story. I felt the same way with "Saving Private Ryan".

A lot of the violence is comical, as disturbed as that premise is. I still think Django is a five-out-of-five star movie, but that's in spite of the most violence scene.

Eberly,

For a more complete assassination picture watch the BBC Bugliosi/Spencer mock trial on Netflix and read, "Legacy of Secrecy" by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartman. Bill is focused on JFK's sex life (entertainment), but far more sinister actions were in play. JFK was dead one week after declaring his determination to issue Treasury Department Silver Certificates. Lincoln's assassination had the same precursor. None of this will answer everything definitively, but the suppressed facts regarding incompetence and implications of conspiracy are numerous. There were three attempts on JFK, not one. How Oswald ties in we'll never know.

SPR woke up a lethargic populace on what it really felt like to be in combat. Some vets who were actually there said it was just like being there. A people tend to forget how horrible war is.

Similarly, when Rhett swept Scarlett off her feet and closed the bedroom, the screen went black and we, as an audience, knew what was going to happen.

The key to many modern movies is how does one make a R rated movie PG 13, without resorting to cartoonnish bloodless violence.

That's the end of my take on filmmaking.

Really? I had to shut the movie off for a few minutes after the landing and lay back and reflect what it must of been like for those guys.
It was actully much worse then the movie could portray. If the violence in the movie was gratuitous I would agree with you, but the movie actually demanded an actual portrayal of the violence of war.
After they broke through the german defense,Hank's character sat and watched as his men were killing surrendering germans was quite telling.
And in the end when Hank's character told Ryan to "earn this' it wrapped it up pretty well.
Every person I know that was in combat thinks about it everyday,it never goes away.
