Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"If you're willing to put in the work, the idea is that you should be able to raise a family and own a home; not go bankrupt because you got sick, because you've got some health insurance that helps you deal with those difficult times; that you can send your kids to college; that you can put some money away for retirement. That's all most people want. Folks don't have unrealistic ambitions. They do believe that if they work hard they should be able to achieve that small measure of an American Dream." -- President Barack Obama in a recent Cedar Rapids, Iowa, speech

"He can't run on change because he's the incumbent, and he can't paint too rosy a scenario because things aren't that rosy," said John Geer, professor of political science at Vanderbilt University. "He's got to come up with a theme that appeals to voters, especially middle-class voters, alleviates their fears and gives them reason to believe the future will be better."

I agree with the first two paragraphs that are quotes from Obama. However, I think that most people are able to achieve that now.

I think the issue really comes down to what people have in mind with these key phrases:

1. Work hard

2. Home (some people have want more of a home than might to accessible to them, think the mortgage crisis)

3. put some money away (a lot of people spend all their money on things they don't necessarily need, while others have an unrealistic amount that they expect to have at retirement)

4. Retirement (some people have unrealistic expectations of retirement, when it starts, how to get there, etc. )

The Rtard plan is to destroy even these modest goals for everyone making less than $500k/year.

And forget about retiring. Social Security and Medicare are firmly on the chopping block for anyone under 61 years old today.

If you ain't rich, white and Republican, you ain't shit.

Yes, teabaggers, you really can't.

"The lesser of two evils. Also, don't bring up drones or NDAA."

That's a good slogan, I think. Or "To Hell in a Union-Made Handbasket!" I'm just spitballing though.

Obama: Payroll tax cut extension will help with higher gas prices
thehill.com

Of course that is not what it was for. Now the original purpose for the tax cut has been eliminated by the rising gas prices, and the money lost by social security will be paid into the general fund via a new fee on new and refinanced mortgages.

...but they can't, because Wall Street has engineererd the economy in such a manner that they get 40% of all profits by shuffling paper. It doesn't take much paper either, since computers do most of the shuffling. The leacherous have displaced the productive in the food chain. Conservatives believe this is the natural order of life.

The "hard work" part will scare away most of Odumbo's scumbag supporters. But after all Obungler was just kidding anyway. He wants to take money from those who work hard and give it to people who don't work at all.

Obama is making the dependent class larger, in return for votes.
The democrats are cowardly and sickening with their self-destructive ways.

It's nauseating to hear the drum-beat of wealth envy plied upon
the very people that the democrats have created to use as leverage.

Which direction will we go??? Towards self-reliance or dependence?

Look for rioting if Nobama loses: The great chimpout of 2012.

most conservatives will never see the disrespect that you show for them ..
~ they are too busy growing your food, building your roads, and providing your light, heat, & fuel .. not to mention raising a family

.. I'll tell 'em every chance I get tho, & it looks like Santorum will tell 'em too

""The Rtard plan is to destroy even these modest goals for everyone making less than $500k/year.""

Funny, I dont see the Republicans acting to drive up the living expenses of the middle class. If the Democrats were so much for the working class, why wouldnt they cut spending to reduce the witholding taxes that PREVENT me from saving for retirement, to the tune of $400 a month?

""And forget about retiring. Social Security and Medicare are firmly on the chopping block for anyone under 61 years old today.""

Thanks for reducing the money going into that pool. Then again, the whole game is to distract Americans from the fact that you're fleecing every worker in the country by only focusing on the tax raises the wealthy are going to get.

""If you ain't rich, white and Republican, you ain't shit.""

The other side of that coin is "If you're rich, white, and Republican you are a greedy, self-serving peice of shit, across the board. No exceptions."

""Yes, teabaggers, you really can't.""

Ah, but they will. And the OWS Soros crowd can't stop them.

You know someone is an elitist when they pretend to know that the hopes and dreams of others to be "modest" as his own wife is on her 16 vacation hitting the slopes of Aspen.

Are we really free, if even our hopes and dreams are not our own?

No, I am not.

I worked my way through college. Paid off loans taken out for college to cover what I could not pay in 3 years after getting out of college, and will be putting at least $10,000 dollars into saving this year.

How? No debt. Limited buying of things that I do not need to buy.

Sure Obummer, let's not do anything to lower energy prices but actually do everything to increase them so you can empty the pockets of the lower and middle classes in exchange for votes from the enviromentalist whacks. The American dream you are talking about is just that, a dream, thanks to you.

#3 post by Axe: "And forget about retiring. Social Security and Medicare are firmly on the chopping block for anyone under 61 years old today.""

Correct, especially considering that obama has taken half a trillion from medicare and his payroll tax deduction which lowers the monies going into Social Security. Republicans fault? -- yeah Riiiiiiight!

Hey --let's simply print enough money to pay off our debts and make everyone who has been denied the American dream a millionaire!

And how is it that we want to raise taxes on millionaires but leave static the taxes for people that make 200K or less? What about the 200K to 1,000,000 people? Is this more ... liberal nuance?

#28 | Posted by FrankA

no but it is too nuanced for you obviously...

The president would raise the long-term capital gains -- currently 15% -- to 20% on those making more than $200,000 ($250,000 if married filing jointly).

As he has done in past budgets, Obama will propose reducing the value of itemized deductions for individuals making more than $200,000 (or $250,000 if married filing jointly). Today, they can deduct 33% or 35% of a qualified expense. Under the president's proposal, they would only be allowed to deduct 28%.
