Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Bruce Springsteen's new album Wrecking Ball is filled with "angry patriotism" about what has happened to his country. "I have spent my life judging the distance between American reality and the American dream," Springsteen said. He credits the Occupy Wall Street movement with highlighting the growing problem of income inequality. "Nobody had talked about income inequality in America for decades -- apart from John Edwards, but no one was listening. But now you have Newt Gingrich talking about 'vulture capitalism' -- Newt Gingrich! -- that would not have happened without Occupy Wall Street."

"There is a real patriotism underneath the best of my music but it is a critical, questioning and often angry patriotism," Springsteen said. "There is a cracking point where a society collapses. You can't have a civilisation where something is factionalised like this."

And...
Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball

#14 | Posted by reitze at 2012-02-18 03:30 PM | Reply | Flag:

Through a trust, Bruce Springsteen owns more than 200 acres in Colts Neck. The taxes for his house and three acres are more than $138,000. But because of the farm tax break, the tax bill on a little more than 200 additional acres is less than $5,000. Town officials say he has horses and an organic farmer working some of the land. A lawyer for the trust had no comment.
In another part of Monmouth County, Bon Jovi has an estate on the Navesink River. Taxes on the mansion and some property add up to $295,68 but his tax bill on an additional 6.85 acres is $104 because he raises honeybees.

Hypocrisy in action.

Springsteen is a maroooon. He invokes Edwards who was one of the examples of unbridled greed and morals. He then talks about OWSers as if they have a license for pointing out what was wrong with America. Heck, where were they when it was actually happening. Those folks are Johnny-come-latelies when they should have been there with some of us who were warning about what was going on in this country 10-15 years ago. Oh no; when times are good then it's all right to look the other way as long as I get mine. Doggone, those folks are dead in the head like Zed.

Armed uprising? By those very same people that have been attempting to limit private ownership of firearms? The only group of people in this country capable of staging an armed uprising are those in flyover country, who are almost universally disdained as hicks those living along the coast. And if they were to rise up, I would hazard a guess it wouldn't be in support of the fleabaggers.

Income inequality is not an issues, take away Silocon Valley and we don't have that much of an income gap.

Its consumption inequality that would be a concern and we don't have that. I have everything Bill Gates has just to a lesser degree.

Where as in Socialist Europe that is not the case, the European rich have goods and services that the average European doesn't have.

Take for example the 2003 European heat wave where 40 thousand people died. It was all middle class and poor that died not rich people. They died due to no air-conditioning, lack of transportation, and lack of health care.

There is a reason why the rich are putting their money off shore, and it's this kind of talk that is behind it.

Other than a rock star who is Bruce Springsteen?

Btw, those calling him a hypocrite might look into his history of charitable giving and action. Just being rich while speaking out against greed and the dangers of unchecked capitalism does not make one a hypocrite.
