Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Friday, January 27, 2012

Rogers Cadenhead: I was granted media credentials by CNN to report on the GOP presidential debate last night in Jacksonville for the Drudge Retort, the first time I've had the opportunity to cover a debate. My debate experience included asking Tim Pawlenty a question, chasing off Fred Thompson and spending quality time with Bay Buchanan. Who is way hotter than her brother Pat.

When Harnden came over looking for the international newsman of mystery, I had to break it to him that instead of Drudge, he'd found me. He did not mask his disappointment.

Now that's sum funny stuff there!

The debate began with the National Anthem, which inspired only one in four of the journalists around me to stand up, though some of them were foreigners and are thus excused.

hmmm telling indeed.

I am pretty sure the proper thing to do is to stand... even if it is not your National Anthem. I would stand for another countries National Anthem.

I hope you are one of the ones who stood Rcade.

Yes, I did. But then I got sad because there was no baseball game at the end.

You have my sympathies. I'm just surprised your ears didn't start bleeding.

Bay Buchanan seemed like a charming woman. And I think she and I might be friends now.

You go then Rogers. maybe I'm conflating her voice with matalan, the ragin' cajun's wife. Then again, I'm usually so busy yelling "fuck you, you nazi asshole" at Pat I can't hear her.

", like people at a family gathering who realize if they stay any longer they'll be asked to help clean up."

You got those kinfolk, too?

Was there at least a NASCAR race? Or did Newt just cut to the crash and burn parts.

He did not mask his disappointment.

Would "crestfallen" be too strong a term there?

He just likes wives.

Spud LLOL'd there too.

/First L was for Literally.

Did nobody else smirk when Gingrich, while noting Callista's accomplishments that made her fit to be First Homewrecker, praised her ability to blow a French horn?

Just Spud there?

Is Spud the only one that immature or just the only one dumb enuff to admit it?

I approached Fred Thompson but something he was asked by another journalist caused him to skeedaddle.

Newsworthy Flag.

Ordinarily Fred Thompson can be found ambling or sauntering. Anything that pushed his gear all the way up to "skeedaddle" must be newsworthy.

/Unless he was just late for his late afternoon nap, of course.

"I need to know who these economists are," he said. "They could all be Keynesians."

Rcade actually did it?

Spud owes the blog-god a beer.

"Well, it's a tragedy because this is a consequence of the government being involved in medicine since 1965."

Kudos for not immediately cock punching this submoronic history-challenged spin-meister after spewing that derp.

Yer a better man than Spud.

"That was extremely weird," Buchanan said.

Contrite Gingrich?

Yeah, Spud thought so too for a second but then thought of all the chances Newt has had to perfect that particular stance and realized it was prolly a default mode thing kicking in.

When around 45 minutes had passed, the last of the spin doctors all left, like people at a family gathering who realize if they stay any longer they'll be asked to help clean up.

Noice analogy.

Be Well.

True enough.

That noted, in today's age of stiffy pills at least the trophy wives have to work a bit harder for their money.

There was a parody Viagra commercial. Can't find the link, atm.

Basically it was a buncha off trophy wives with their waaaay too-old-for-them hubbies, it was riffing off those "Thanks Viagra" commercials only this time from the POV of an unappreciative trophy wive.

Old guy leers into camera.

Lady says "Thanks, Viagra super sarcastically.

Funneh stuff.

Nice work, Rogers. Seriously. What a huge opportunity and a well written piece. However, this line really stood out:
A woman down my row from the conservative American Spectator rocketed out of her seat with patriotic super-speed.

The line is clearly sarcastic, so I'm left wondering why liberals are so offended by patriotism? Did you include this just to throw a bone to the uber-libtards who will scoff and chuckle at such an overt display of patriotism? In the past few days, the DR boards were awash with the lefty-posters bellyaching about Gov. Brewer's alleged lack of respect for the President. What is so wrong with showing respect for your country? Keep in mind, I am not questioning your patriotism and it is duly noted that you stood during the anthem. I just don't get why you thought it was necessary to craft the language in this manner.

I bet it was nice to get out in the field and do some real journalism. I miss it. I used to do some cub reporting for several college papers way back when. Never managed to actually make any money at journalism but I really enjoyed it.

And it did lead to my current career eventually.

Because conservative "patriotism" is micron deep made in China flag stickers and saluting the flag as obviously as you can and "supporting our troops" by sending them into stupid foreign adventures but not serving yourself and then forgetting them when the war goes to crap. While dumping their money in foreign banks and buying foreign products. And, of course, the inherent belief that the only "patriots" are their fellow conservatives.

"Iam not questioning your patriotism and it is duly noted that you stood during the anthem.".

Does RCADE's standing mean he's a patriot or just polite and respectful? Most people follow the local anthem norms when in other countries, does that make them patriots, too?

Good point. I would say respectful. Too bad you couldn't answer my other with equal quality of thought. But, quite frankly, the question wasn't intended for you.

I'm not offended by patriotism. I just thought it was funny she got up so fast, like we were being watched. Then again, she was being watched.

I just realized that one of the reporters I spoke to was Robert Stacy McCain:

RCADE,

I never had the priviledge of meeting Bay or Pat. But I did have an interesting round of e-mails with Pat, because he mistook my e-mail address (bayviking) for his sister. Pat has a wealth of knowledge from working inside the beltway, colored only by his devout catholicism. Pat's commentary on the McLaughlin group is the most accurate of the remaining conservatives.

I've always had a soft spot for the Buchanans when I see them on the tube. Maybe it's an Irish thing. But Pat promoting his new book on a white supremacist radio show may be the last straw for me.
