Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Terri Carlson, a 45-year-old San Diego County woman, is looking for a husband so that she can obtain health insurance to treat her rare genetic disease. Carlson's web site, Will Marry for Health Insurance, states, "I am currently on cobra health insurance (from my divorce, 2 years ago) but it runs out in a year. ... It is not easy living with my disease and now that I have the genetic answer for my health issues, every insurance company uses the information to deny me insurance coverage."

This woman makes public what society doesn't want to see, that people marry for all sorts of reasons, many of them having nothing to do with "love." I give her credit for honesty. Whereas other people would try to snage a potentila mate by false pretenseces, claiming love and all that shit, at least she is honest about what she wants to marry for.

At least she isn't gay. That would destory marriage for sure!

Signs of the times.

Just die already.

"Considering your age and amount of money we would have to spend treating your disease, we can not recommend you be treated." -- Bureaucrat in Obamacare Health Board

Note that I didn't say "death pnael."

"You're sick. Go away." - Bureacrat in Health Care In.

Notice I didn't say death panel either.

Health Care Insurance Co.

Dang fingers.

Said she's a Republican her whole life but voted Dem first time because of health care.

Obviously a case of the shoe now on the other foot.

Probably hates gays too, until her son comes out of the closet one day. (Ala San Diego mayor Jerry Sanders, Cheney, etc...)

Hypocrit?

It must go with the territory - pray to god all your life, then resist death with every resource possible up until the last breath? It seems pretty hypocritical to me.

according to most of the rightwingers on this site, if she can't figure out a way to afford health insurance she deserves any horrible things that happen to her if she she gets ill or injured, because they won't help her

But we don't need universal health care, nope, not one bit. I personally also have a "genetic" disease that requires EXPENSIVE meds (on the order of 2K a month at the current U.S. drug company rapist prices). Without health insurance and prescription coverage I would be unable to work and on disability or being a burden to my family. With the meds I'm 100% functional and a productive member of society. There are many more out there in the same boat. Doesn't it make sense to keep your population as healthy as possible and therefore productive so we can compete a little better?

Yes, I'm one of those that happens to believe that in a modern, civilized, society decent health care is a RIGHT, period.

You may begin shredding me for this opinion, but I sincerely hope you or your family are never in this position (even if it would change your mind quite quickly). The richest country in the world and if it's citizens get sick and can't work there is a very real possibility that they may end up out in the cold, left to suffer, starve, lose their homes and possibly die. That is a shameful situation, the U.S. should BE ashamed by this. This is the last "civilized" country in the world where this situation exists. How can anyone call themselves a patriot and be against universal health care for their fellow citizens? It just doesn't make any sense at all.

You may begin shredding me for this opinion, but I sincerely hope you or your family are never in this position

I certainly won't and I hope my family is never in this situation.

Let's apply the current healthcare bill to this scenario...I believe that there is a provision for a guranteed issue of health insurance for someone with this problem?

yes?

And lets be fair to the current system. COBRA has allowed this woman to continue coverage for 2 years after a divorce. This does give her 2 years to make adjustments and a health insurer through another employer has to take her no questions asked. Finding another job with health benefits would be the best solution but perhaps she is unable to do that (skill set and job environment where she lives.)

I think most people would agree that this is a scenario where we want this person to get access to coverage and care.

Doesn't it make sense to keep your population as healthy as possible and therefore productive so we can compete a little better?

Only productive members of society need apply. I love it, no sense letting welfare slobs have any insurance, they are just a drag on society anyway.

Why should my tax dollars go to medical treatment for lifetime welfare slobs, rapists, gangbangers, illegals, etc/

Christian values ^^^^^

Oh yes, the SANCTITY of marriage!

Finding another job with health benefits

every insurance company uses the information to deny me insurance coverage

Tell me why those two statements are contradictory.

Marriage is a business arrangement and a kind of legal contract, nothing more nothing less.

They could pass a bipartisan bill right now to do away with insurance exclusions and place people in risk pools.

But instead the dems go for broke--literally --and want to take over the entire system.

She was on TV yesterday. She takes 19 different pills every day for her disease.

----

We know a couple who married for health insurance in exchange for a house. He's a big mouth, she's a sweetheart.

kind of legal contract, nothing more nothing less.

Then why the outcry over homosexuals entering into it?

No one bitches when a homosexual signs a car lease.

CBS's idea of hard hitting journalism. I imagine they had to run an ad to find this situation. At least it provides filler for the other news they refuse to cover.

Because buying a car is not "sacred!"

every insurance company uses the information to deny me insurance coverage

Tell me why those two statements are contradictory.

because there is a difference between an individual plan and a group plan.

Individual plan applications can be denied for health reasons while existing group coverage has to take someone if they have maintained prior credible coverage. It appears she has been applying for individual coverage.

If she got a job offering health insurance they would take her with no questions asked.

I amazed that after all of the input from folks like you railing on about the status of our healthcare in the country that you didn't know the difference. An employee with any health condition can change employers and get onto another health plan with no problems. HIPPA, COBRA, etc represent legislation to protect workers (and their familes from these issues).

Said she's a Republican her whole life but voted Dem first time because of health care.

Obviously a case of the shoe now on the other foot.

I call it the Lee Atwater syndrome. Evil people have no empathy unless it's them. Then the light bulb turns on. But not a minute before.

It's harsh, but it's ironic justice.

"Note that I didn't say "death pnael."

You betcha!

Will you progressives have the same empathy for people who are denied care under Obamacare, maybe people who voted for Obama? How ironic that will be.

And make no mistake, if Obamacare passes, the scenario I outline will happen.

No one bitches when a homosexual signs a car lease.

Strawman Alert!

No strawman. I am just pointing out what will happen if Obamacare passes.

Well it should not matter because if we keep dinging the Chinese on BS and they call in their markers, it would be a moot point anyway.

Just pointing out what will happen when the Chinese call in their markers.

Too bad this story wasn't out there 2 weeks ago. She could have sat in Michelle's lap at the State of the Bankrupt Union address.

TELL ME FIRST...have to call the bookie....

New Orleans will win the Superbowl because G-d hates Payton Manning. Sure, Payton did the G-man a BIG favor by keeping those hated Jets out of Miami, but life isn't fair to a Colts' fan.

I think most people would agree that this is a scenario where we want this person to get access to coverage and care.

There are situations where most people don't want that? Please describe a few of these scenarios.

I'm guessing maybe, illegal immigrants? Other than that I can't think of one.

Frankly I have no problem extending coverage to anyone in the country regardless of how they got here. More to the point the debate about health care should not turn on how illegal immigrants get treated. These are, or should be, edge cases, and even if they're quite numerous, let's not let an immigration problem sidetrack a nation's health care problem.

Will you progressives have the same empathy for people who are denied care under Obamacare, maybe people who voted for Obama? How ironic that will be.

And make no mistake, if Obamacare passes, the scenario I outline will happen.

Make no mistake, that scenario happens now too. People are denied care all the time. There has never been an infinite amount of health care resources, and Obamacare won't change that.

Some unfortunate Americans right now are waiting for organs, if they don't get them soon they'll die. You must be aware of this.

There are situations where most people don't want that?

no. that isn't what I said. I was referring to THIS scenario.

Please describe a few of these scenarios.

There are some who, yes, don't want coverage for illegals. There are others who fit into the fix who already can afford coverage, are healthy, but willfully choose to go without and there are people who don't think coverage should be given to them unless they want to pay for it.

which I think will be remidied eventually.

So what, a woman willing to prostitute herself for financial gain. This is news?

Make no mistake, that scenario happens now too. People are denied care all the time. There has never been an infinite amount of health care resources, and Obamacare won't change that.

Some unfortunate Americans right now are waiting for organs, if they don't get them soon they'll die. You must be aware of this.

I will be the first: That was an intelligent retort.

There are others who fit into the fix who already can afford coverage, are healthy, but willfully choose to go without and there are people who don't think coverage should be given to them unless they want to pay for it.

Ah, I hadn't thought of them. I think those people need to participate. Single payer would fix that easy -- just skim it off the top of their paycheck like we do for those other taxes. I could see the young, healthy crowd thinking it's unfair, but they barely vote anyway. :)

If Obama's plan were to begin today, would she still be alive in 5 years to enjoy it? Or do we need to pass it now so that she'll insurance beginning in 4 years? Anyone thinking either plan bogged down in Congress would help, or even the public option, is deluding themselves. If the plans are so important, why are they planning to wait for years before implementation? Oh, yeah, they have to get enough money first, since it doesn't pay for itself.

Some unfortunate Americans right now are waiting for organs, if they don't get them soon they'll die.

That is a tad different then getting insurance to pay for pills that are available. One is a limit based on "parts" and the other is an arbitrary refusal of service by an insurance company.

I guess in wing ding world it is better that she go on welfare to get Medicaid.

The long and short of it is that the system we currently have in place sucks. Millions of Americans do not have access to affordable healthcare.

People with little understanding, or complete misunderstanding, can whine and complain about the President's health reform plan all they want, but the truth is that it is far better and far cheaper for far more Americans than the current mish-mash we have in place. (Let the rightwing talking points begin.)

That's the way the world goes 'round

Americans get the government and the health care system their lazy/apathetic a$$e$ deserve.

I'm certain a sporting event is on TV and it's more important to most...

What's wrong with American's? America is the land of opportunity not the land of easy money. It's not the governments job to ensure the population is free from hardships. The government is there to protect and serve, that's it! Government is not made to ensure everyone has an equal standard of living.

A lot of people in Massachusetts who voted democrat their whole life voted for Scott Brown after seeing what Obama tried to do with the health care system.

Democrat leaders are not interested in helping people get health insurance unless they can control it. They could have worked with republicans years ago to make insurance acessible across state lines and mandated coverage for those with pre-existing conditions. Unfortuneately that would not have allowed them to get control over more of our lives like Medicare and Social Security.

I read a story about someone who was willing to kill someone in order to get the drugs they "needed". If only he and people like him could be able to legally get drugs people wouldn't die.

Blame the war on drugs for innocent people dying. Lets reform the war on drugs.

It is funny when anecdotal stories dictate policy in America.

Many people have much bigger problems than how to afford healthcare. Things like making payroll, paying for education, keeping from defaulting on a modest mortgage, staying employed, and the list goes on. The current proposal of Universal Healthcare, while basically a nobel concept, is in reality little more than another way to hi-jack money from the middle class and dump it into the general fund. And trying to play the blame game is just disingenuous. If universal healthcare is so important to us as a nation, then how about cutting a few big budget items to prove it. Off the top of my head, I can think of a few:

End any and all payments to the U.N.
Gov't funded global warming projects
Financial support to the middle east
Cut back on welfare
paying for elected officials to travel with ful entourage around the country and the globe

Start drilling for oil in our own back yard
Create a Federal sales tax

And vola... congratulations BOGEY - you have just taken the back to square one. As long as you don't need it, nobody needs it.

I do agree with your cut-back ideas, however I notice that you left the wars in Af/Iq off your list.

Would repubs pass heath-care if Obama threatened to cancel the war?

Just die already.

- The right.

You haven't even read the Conservative ideas!

Oh! You're trolling....

I am curious, however, how the left thinks about the issue. Do you really think that Conservatives want to keep everything status quo or do you think that Conservatives want to keep people from access to health care?

I'll wait for your reply...

Predisclosing her Hereditary condition earned her points IMHO.

Not bad looking. (I am trying not to use the term MILF anymore)

If what she says is true, I hope some she finds someone for a little Quid Pro Quo.

Eddie: Yes

"You haven't even read the Conservative ideas!"

I have. Their "alternatives" are akin to throwing water on an oil fire.

"Do you really think that Conservatives want to keep everything status quo..."

Not necessarily.

"...or do you think that Conservatives want to keep people from access to health care?"

Yes.

What's the offer? You marry a 45 year old woman who admittedly only cares about your insurance and then at some point she leaves and takes half your shit?

That's about as appealing as joining that cult where they chopped off their own balls and then drank poison.

I think she's just doing a Cindy Sheehan to get her 15 minutes of fame. I don't blame her for showing her frustration with the system online however. The Medicaid system can be daunting and the frustration of having to go to the emergency room for every treatment! However, I've seen people "work" the system and get on Medicaid without having to give up everything.

I wish Obama would hurry up and give in and admit he's failed so we can get on with reforming health care!

I'm sure all of you 'Real Americans' who are against healthcare and who claim a monopoly on morals and God are opening your wallets WIIIIDE to help this woman.

Can you name anyone who is against "healthcare"?

Why don't you just shut up and admit that ObamaCare is a complete failure!??!

We need to get on with the REAL Health Care Reform...

The mortuary lobby.

I'm sure all of you 'Real Americans' who are against healthcare and who claim a monopoly on morals and God are opening your wallets WIIIIDE to help this woman.

Common sense tells me that if someone is against health care they would be the last ones to help. It seems it is the ones for paying more taxes to ensure healthcare for all that should be helping her. Are you helping her, commonsense? Or is does your mantra of willing to pay more to ensure health care ring hollow?

uh oh, Goatman and Eddie on the same thread.

We're going to shut down yet another bogus health care thread.

Hell no! Commonsense doesn't have the means to help anyone! His idea of helping the less fortunate is first becoming one of them...

NO! You are probably referring to the Republican ideas that actually made it out of committee!

I'm talking about REAL Health Care Reform! See Ron Paul on Health Care Reform. And I have some to add to it.

"You are probably referring to the Republican ideas that actually made it out of committee!"

Yeah, like allowing competition across state lines, but allowing the issuing state to set the guidelines.

What could possibly go wrong???

"You are probably referring to the Republican ideas that actually made it out of committee!"

#70 | Posted by Danforth

Nothing! It worked before.

It's really easy to force states to allow more insurance companies into their state. It used to work very well, then states got the idea that they could reduce the number of insurance companies operating in the state and that would easier for them to police and only the largest companies would exist. NO! It created monopolies and added to the reason why insurance costs are rising and created this appearance of limited access to health care. The Republicans are not doing this because it would get rid of the monopoly and they are for big business running our health care.

Yes! What could go wrong?

I would much rather see all states be forced by Congress to provide a basic policy for insurance companies operating in that state to use that a 16-year-old could read and still be good business for the insurance company.

It could work if we really got involved and ran these large corporate loddies out of Washington.

The problem is that we think we have a choice between big business OR the government running our health care.

This is because the Republicans want big business to do it and the Democrats want the government to do it. Neither are working!

"I think she's just doing a Cindy Sheehan to get her 15 minutes of fame. I don't blame her for showing her frustration with the system online however. The Medicaid system can be daunting and the frustration of having to go to the emergency room for every treatment! However, I've seen people "work" the system and get on Medicaid without having to give up everything."

I kinda figured that its at least partially a "bring attention to the issue/hope someone feels sorry and hooks me up" kind of stunt. But the premise behind it all is "she's so desperate for heatlth care that she's even willing to marry someone just to get insurance" as if she would be doing the poor sucker some kind of favor by marrying him for what he can give her or as if this doesn't happen all the time anyway.

Women marry because they want what a guy has all the time (and yes men marry for shallow reasons too). There's nothing "crazy" about the premise.

"It's really easy to force states to allow more insurance companies into their state."

What's stopping the insurance companies now?

"It created monopolies and added to the reason why insurance costs are rising and created this appearance of limited access to health care."

It's not an "appearance". How many carriers can you choose from in your state? And do you think rewriting the rules that make the insurance companies only adhere to the issuing state's requirements is an "alternative"?

"The problem is that we think we have a choice between big business OR the government running our health care."

Who is the third choice? When left to the insurers, we ended up with medical costs outpacing inflation by a 4-to-1 ratio.

Who is the third choice? When left to the insurers, we ended up with medical costs outpacing inflation by a 4-to-1 ratio.

#73 | Posted by Danforth

Yes,I gave you hint of why this is happening. Can you name other reasons the 4 to 1 rise in health care costs?

It's not an "appearance". How many carriers can you choose from in your state? And do you think rewriting the rules that make the insurance companies only adhere to the issuing state's requirements is an "alternative"?

#73 | Posted by Danforth

It's not an alternative now.

No, the state makes the rules and if Congress forced every state to provide a basic policy that every insurance company operating in that state had to use as it's basic policy, it would give the state a leg up in ensuring that all companies were being fair to their customers.

Eventually (or right away) states would begin to share ideas about the basic policy and a "universal" policy would evolve. Sorry to use that word, but it fits.

The other thing that states struggle with is making sure that insurance companies are financially viable to do business and would set rules on insurance companies investments (as the already do).

"the state makes the rules and if Congress forced every state..."

Better inform Senator #41 of your plan....

"and would set rules on insurance companies investments (as the already do). "

And that worked so well with AIG....

What's stopping the insurance companies now?

corruption at the State level. Many States put barriers on who they let in their state to sell insurance. Some charge "fees" on the premium if they aren't domiciled in the state. Large carriers like BC, United all establish "regional" office that qualify but smaller carriers can't compete with that.

It's nothing but pure cronyism at the State level because of the influence of these large carriers.

One the few reasons why I am skeptical of a government solution when the "government" has been 100% complicit in the problems in the first place.

"Can you name other reasons the 4 to 1 rise in health care costs? "

When costs rises outpace inflation for over a generation, there is only one real reason: monopoly.

I hear over and over how health workers are getting shafted, yet health insurance companies set record profits. You do the math.

A lot of women marry men because he has a nice house, or a good income. Doesn't mean we need a federal program to give everyone luxury homes.

I feel sorry for her, and don't really know what the answer is. You can't buy insurance for a pre-existing condition any more than you can wreck your car and buy insurance on repairs after the fact. So, yes, in order for her to get coverage, she's going to have to hook up with someone who is part of a large plan, or pay for it herself. Not only is that the way it works, that's the way it should work.

"and would set rules on insurance companies investments (as the already do). "

And that worked so well with AIG....

#76 | Posted by Danforth

LOL...

You'd rather just troll around and see what you can hook into...

See ya later... Don't let the door hit you in the butt....

So we have a choice don't we?

Health insurance is not auto insurance, IMHO. Both are risk pools, but are very different and I am ready for states to start treating them differently and better attention! Currently states are not regulating. All they're doing is keeping the industry in a nice monopoly where the execs are getting stinking rich and too many are going without and because a ward of the state.

When the Medicaid runs out, the state starts crying to the feds to bail them out!

Reading the rightwing mindset as reflected in the posts on this thread, I am once again reminded why I hold rightwingers in such contempt.

We're all devastated.

That's what I'm trying to tell you. You have no clue what the Conservative mindset is.

You and your other ObamaCare fuckups are lost! Why the hell do you think the Democrats are having so much trouble passing this pile of shit? The Leftwing "mindset" is OUT OF TOUCH!

RiR beat me to it. LOL I guess I'll have to think of something else to say.

I don't understand how a person so biased can be a public defender. I pity all your clients, but particularly the ones who you find out are right wing. The right wing hatred you harbor -- indeed seem to be proud of -- can't help but to be reflected in the defense of a right wing client. If your identity became known to a right winger sent up a river whom you defended, your words here would be evidence enough for a retrial, I am sure counselor

How can you live with such hate of people you don't even know? How can you hate someone simply because they vote differently than you? You are a very troubled person, moder-h8

I call 'em as I see 'em. You rightwingers carry around a lot of anger and have no qualms about screwing over your fellow Americans. It is what it is.

I speak only for myself, but I do not hold any anger agasint anyone I've never met as you do, moder-h8. I would never screw over a fellow human being either.

It is what it is.

True. And it isn't what you say it is, hatemonger.

She's not only an American, but a legal resident of San Diego, and of California. California prides itself on being one of the most progressive states in the country--why shouldn't they offer a comprehensive health care plan, if it's such a good idea? If she has a fire at her house, she's got a long wait coming if she expects a fire truck to come all the way from D.C.

If the health program would save money over time, as we're told, why wouldn't it work in the state of California? Go for it, boys. Show the rest of us how to make it happen.

What? Do you have an example?

The Cash Advance company he goes to every month, three days before payday, had a Bush/Quayle sticker on one of their old pickups.

How can holding your fellow citizen to the same high standard be misconstrewed as "screwing over your fellow Americans"?

It's called self-reliance!

Look it up!

Besides Moder8, you sound like someone who was an idiot when it came to business and failed. Then made shit up about how someone screwed him over!

Dude, if you don't pay your phone bill they're going to cut it off!!! Dumbshit!

An example? Checkout RIR's post #79.

"So, yes, in order for her to get coverage, she's going to have to hook up with someone who is part of a large plan, or pay for it herself. Not only is that the way it works, that's the way it should work."

Talk about a cold shoulder... I can't imagine ever having that type of mindset. Basically it is tantamount to saying "Fuck you, you don't have any right to decent healthcare. So marry someone you love just to qualify." Scary thing many of you rightwingers agree with that outlook. (Shudder)

* you DON"T love to qualify

Goatman, having read your posts for several years now, I can honestly state that I perceive you to be a very angry and unpleasant person. The fact that you utterly deny it, and fail to see it speaks volumes

I don't read it that way at all!

The woman is "looking to marry for health insurance", but you don't question her "mindset", you are gunning for Righties today.

Moder8, your credibility is very low right now.

Like I say, the thread is a bit "Hate Righty" circle jerk. Full of MichaelMoore-style accusations that you throw out there but can't prove.

Well tell me then, Moder8: what should someone with a pre-existing condition have to pay for health insurance? If her condition costs $3,000 a month to treat, then who should pay for it? How much should come out of her own pocket? How much should the taxpayers have to pay? How much should the insurer pay?

You have all the answers, and I'm just the cold-hearted douchebag who realizes that everything has to cost something, and if she doesn't pay, someone else will be. Who do you think that should be?

Goatman, having read your posts for several years now, I can honestly state that I perceive you to be a very angry and unpleasant person. The fact that you utterly deny it, and fail to see it speaks volumes

Again, don't confuse self-reliance and expecting the same from your fellow citizen with "angry and unpleasent"

How about this: make Obamacare voluntary, but once you elect to take it, you can never get out. And once you refuse it, you can never get back in. That way, all the Obama voters who want a national health plan can have one. And since it supposedly costs the taxpayer nothing, they can pay for it all themselves.

Wouldn't that be something? Everybody can get what he or she wants, no gun to anybody's head, no penalties for not signing up. And everyone who wants Obamacare can have it, and nobody else has to.

Goatman, having read your posts for several years now, I can honestly state that I perceive you to be a very angry and unpleasant person. The fact that you utterly deny it, and fail to see it speaks volumes
* * * *

You watch a lot of Oprah and Dr. Phil, don't ya?

Seems the rightwingers can dish out the criticism but can't take it. Not surprising. Goes along with that whole mindset. I strongly suspect that in real life none of you have many, if any, friends. Whatever.

I have 3 friends. But two of them are dead now. How about you Goatman? Do you have any friends? Eddie?

I'll bet between the 3 of us, we can come up with names of 10 people who are our friends.

Well tell me then, Moder8: what should someone with a pre-existing condition have to pay for health insurance? If her condition costs $3,000 a month to treat, then who should pay for it?
#97 | Posted by rightisright

Ultimately, it's the responsibility of the state.

There are many risk-pools that every state can take advantage of to manage these claims.

I doubt it actually costs $3k a month to treat her. It's more like 1/10th that cost mostly because of the over-inflated prices of medication and special procedures.

When you get the insurance company involved, they manage to get the cost cut way down to the real cost of care.

Oh--I just thought of another one! He's black, too, so he should count like triple!

Seems the rightwingers can dish out the criticism but can't take it. Not surprising. Goes along with that whole mindset. I strongly suspect that in real life none of you have many, if any, friends. Whatever.

moder8, I've read on this thread and have heard from people face-to-face them saying that they thought Republicans are categorically racists and have hate for everyone else, are greedy, and will watch a child breed to death in the street.

THIS IS NOT CRITICISM!!!

This is lying born out of ignorance and self-loathing...

On the bright side, you friends are 2/3rds normal. LOL

Sorry to pick on you Moder8, but, you're the only one who will even engage in meaningful conversation.

Eddie, not to be mean to you or anything, but I don't take you very seriously. You tend to babble. (Unlike RIR, whose uber rightwing mentality I find really disturbing. Or Goatman, whose whiny trolling I find tiresome and pathetic.)

If it wasn't meant to be a joke, it's funny.

I can honestly state that I perceive you to be a very angry and unpleasant person.

Coming from someone who is consistently wrong, I welcome the observation.

I do, however, find it amusing that someone who openly admits, even brags, about despising people he's never met simply because of who they vote for isn't in a very good position to judge someone else's state of mind, moder-h8. LOL

You said 1.5 friends. That indicates 1 1/2 personalities. 3/3rds. That's how math and logic work based on your statement :-)

Kidding. Of course marriage is sacred.
But to whom?

Look, if I want to get married, I can do that, and NO EARTHLY CHURCH NEED RECOGNIZE IT.
That wouldn't make my marriage any more or less valid, or vital, or important.

However, in order for it to be LEGAL, the STATE, NOT the CHURCH, must recognize it.

Moder8! Where are you!??!

MODER8!!! I'm sorry...

Goatman, having read your posts for several years now, I can honestly state that I perceive you to be a very angry and unpleasant person. The fact that you utterly deny it, and fail to see it speaks volumes.

#95 | Posted by moder8 at 2010-02-02 06:37 PM

The fact why Goatman denies being a "very angry and unpleasant person" and the reason why he "fails to to see it" happens to be 'cause what you said about him simply isn't true.

"Reality" versus what you "perceive" someone or something to be, Moder8, are usually night and day.

Better luck next time.

However, I do agree with you 100% in that having a pre-existing condition should never be allowed to stand as a legitimate excuse for any health insurance to deny a person medical coverage. Nor should people who sometimes may have higher medical costs than others be penalized with exorbitant health insurance premiums either.

Pool the risk and make each health insurance company accept its equal and fair share when it comes to providing medical insurance to those with pre-existing conditions. Even if a particular health insurance company doesn't operate in all 50 states, the costs can be proportioned out amongst all the states. And if the federal government would need to kick in a subsidy to one state or another to accomplish getting it done, then do it. We've got the bucks.

What's the offer? You marry a 45 year old woman who admittedly only cares about your insurance and then at some point she leaves and takes half your shit?

That's about as appealing as joining that cult where they chopped off their own balls and then drank poison.

#57 | Posted by Sully at 2010-02-02 03:38 PM

If she's there for the health insurance coverage she'd probably never want to leave. As for your end of the bargain, maybe she gives great back and foot massages and bakes really yummy, fresh from the oven, chocolate chip cookies.

It's a 50-50, win-win. lol

#126 | Posted by CalifChris

1. We don't have the bucks. We print the bucks out of thin air. We HAVE to stop doing that.

2. You have it exactly backwards but you are getting it. The State is responsible for the welfare of its residents. This responsibility is not shared among the states.

We are doing too much of this now with Federal "subsidies".

Subsidies are the number one reason that states NEVER have enough money...

Think about it...

If you have enough money, why would you need a Federal subsidy?

1. We don't have the bucks. We print the bucks out of thin air. We HAVE to stop doing that.

EDDIE

That's why the bill was scored by the CBO, who concluded it will eliminate $1 Trillion of deficits it's first 20 years and $150 Billion the first 10.

So?

Bringing our troops home and stop building an American empire would save $1 trillion a year for... forever.

Iraq wasn't scored by the CBO for revenue neutrality. We borrowed the money to do it. There's the difference.

EDDIE

So would negotiating prices under Medicare Part D. IN some cases they pay several times what the VA do for the same meds. Strict oversight of military contracting will save a bunch of money too. The days of 'cost plus' contracts with no penalties for going overtime or over budget should end too.

Nope, what I mean is to slow spending outside the US. A $trillion a year is what we spend outside of the US. This, of course, includes the wars, but also includes supporting corporations who are operating abroad and foriegn aid.

Those days are long gone under private health insurance. "Networks" "Preferred Providers" and the like. 20-something twats making medical decisions to pay or deny treatments or tests are common.

The largest insurance program in the world, Medicare, has the highest satisfaction rate. Nearly unanimous.

Why do you keep mentioning the CBO? Aren't they the same idiots that got us into the mess we're in now? Don't get me wrong. I'm not putting the entire blame on them, but they are certainly part of it!

This, of course, includes the wars, but also includes supporting corporations who are operating abroad and foriegn aid.

A couldn't agree more. Corporations began offshoring their operations in droves after Cheney's time at Halliburton resulted in most of their subsidaries being located for legal reasons in tax havens like the Caymans - in buildings where no one answered phones - to avoid paying U.S. taxes.

Those types of abuses are being remedied right now.

#138 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY

I'll agree. It works, but it doesn't cover everything.

Medicine is big bucks and big business pays big bucks to Congress to make sure that they keep US paying big bucks. It doesn't matter if you're Republican or Democrat... ObamaCare is proof (manditory insurance). A Big Business dream!!!!

AU, they are telling you that you have 2 choices, ObamaCare or no Health Care Reform. That's a lie!

Those types of abuses are being remedied right now.

#140 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY

no they're not. They just tell you that, but it's still happening. And it will continue as long as the dollar holds out and I predict it will.

,i>Why do you keep mentioning the CBO? Aren't they the same idiots that got us into the mess we're in now? Don't get me wrong. I'm not putting the entire blame on them, but they are certainly part of it!

I'd love to see a bill the GOP sent to be scored for it's effect on deficits. When the auditor from HHS was prepared to testify to Congress about Medicare Part D's true cost, Bush tried to fire him. He was right, the WH's numbers were WAY off...and they knew it.

BTW, I read yesterday Medicare Part D tripled in cost this year to $150,000,000,000

The 2 tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans passed in 2002 were never scored and passed via 'reconciliation'. So was Medicare Part D.

EDDIE

I heard Sec Def Gates talking about it the other day on C-SPAN. They're attempting to put an end to open-ended, no bid, cost plus contracts and eliminate all this budget overrunning crap by contractors. Announced by Gates last year. An ongoing effort at reform:

" Third, in order to do this, we must reform how and what we buy, meaning a fundamental overhaul of our approach to procurement, acquisition, and contracting. "

One such effort:

they should move to israel

Our country is so fucked up.

We have people married to the idea that a Health Insurance co. whose sole motive is profit is required in our health system.

People are fucking morons.

My middle class, white collar, average sized company is looking at a 65% increase in our rates for an average benefit package-

Justification-they lowballed to get our business, new mandates and trends. I call bullshit.

When 30% of your health dollars go to processing payments (which is what health insurance companies do) PLUS the additional costs to your provider with him processing claims. THAT IS FUCKED UP!

And FUCKING MORONS cant see the destruction this system is doing to us.

We need single payer universal healthcare.

This would ELIMINATE YOUR and YOUR EMPLOYERS CONTRIBUTIONS to health benefits.

Yes this would be offset by an increase in taxes BUT without the fucking leaches at the health insurance companies and the fucking leach insurance brokers you wouldnt pay any more.

USE the WINDFALL of money to fund educating doctors to assure adequate health care access for all.

People are so fucking stupid to think this couldnt work.

It works here with medicare, medicaid, the VA

EVEN IN FUCKING PRISONS.

#146 | Posted by COMMONSENSE

Commonsense,

You're not being funny, you're being an idiot. I sense the sarcasm as if you are playing down the importance of how Obamacare nor "Socialized Medicine" is not wanted by the people.

You can't be serious when you are in the 20%-tile of Americans on healthcare. You didn't know this did you? If you don't realize that you are in the 20%-tile, then you are simply lying to yourself.

You see, my pointed-headed Commonsense, Americans are NOT Europeans! Europeans (and the rest of the world) came to America to be Americans! Americans and Europeans may have the same ansestors, but there is a fundamental difference... Self-Reliance.

People immigrated to the US for freedom and opportunity. Do you think that's dead? I don't. I think it's in our blood! We are more aggressive and more innovative. This is what makes us Americans (not Europeans).

"Socialized Medicine" and ObamaCare goes against the grain what Americans think should be in the Health Industry.

You can't say that we should be more like Europeans when we can't! We are what we are and if the Europeans can't keep up with us, then they will have to accept that. This is why we have the Olympics and the Special Olympics, so-to-speak, in the business world.

Do you really think that Americans want ObamaCare because Obama is pushing it? I don't think so. They liked Obama enough to elect him, but that was before they knew him.

So, you were saying?

#149 | Posted by COMMONSENSE

So, Common, you are one of those trustfund Liberals, holy fuck! The worst!! You've never really had a job and you've never really been poor.

You idiot! charge at least $1/month and go and collect it, personally, every month. It's the human interaction and the monetary transaction that makes them believe that they are actaully getting something of value from you. You are doing them a huge disservice; they'll begin to expect everything to be free from now on and they don't need to work.

If you had been poor and worked your way up, you'd be a Conservative!

So, you are either a trustfunder or, you could just be lying.

you were saying?...

What's funny is the entire premise of this thread, and the woman's argument, is that she needs to find someone with insurance to marry. Yet she already states that insurance companies won't accept her, so why does she think that suddenly finding someone, anyone, with some insurance coverage will be able to cover her where others, according to her, won't. She's either very stupid, or simply a liberal plant like so many like her in the past.

The other funny aspect is that liberals here think Obamacare will be able to help. Even if it was passed today it wouldn't take effect for years, and who's to say she would be covered regardless. These bills are so very important to the health and safety of the US, but they don't take effect before 2013? I'd define gullibility, but it's doubtful the libs here would understand.

#152 | Posted by truthhurts

Truth, I agree with everything in your post except

"We need single payer universal healthcare."

It's sad to see Insurance Companies taking advantage of a monopoly that our government set up! It's neither the Republicans' nor the Democrats', but both! It's just another head on a 2-headed monster.

The other reason I think there is a problem with universal healthcare is that it's simply moving the dysfunction of our Health Care System from Big Business to the Government. It will continue to be very expensive with limited access, and I personally feel that the quality will plummet.

Like I said before, Americans are not Europeans. We can't accept Socialism under any circumstances. We don't like paying into SS and Medicare and think it's a waste, but you can't take it away from us because we've already paid for it!!! It's ours! You can't have it!! That doesn't sound like Socialism to me.

What did old folks do before Medicare? They received care, they paid for it...

Think about this question:

Is the cost of medical care for the elderly higher now because the cost of providing care went up? Or, is it high now because this HUGE fund we call Medicare is there to pick up 70% of the cost!??!

Think about that.

Here's something else to ponder along those lines. If you look at the polls of Doctors and Providers around the world, they say that the US spends more on equipment, drugs, and new procedures than any other country in the world.

In my opinion, we are buying the state-of-the-art of everything that comes off the line: drugs, medical equipment, facilities, clinics, hospitals, etc... And the rest of the world is either being choosier or taking last year's model at a discount.

Essentially, we are paying for the innovation of Medicine for the entire world!!!

But, now we can't afford it.

I'd define gullibility, but it's doubtful the libs here would understand.

#155 | Posted by SpokaneJim

I call it willful ignorance.

They use statements like, "We are the only industrialized country in the world without a Universal Healthcare plan"

SO WHAT?!!?

We are also the leader in the number of inventions in the world. We, the US, innovate more than all the countries in the world combined.
www.uspto.gov

As Americans, we have access to the best medical care in the world, but we have to pay for it.

I say this as this trend begins to reserve. We can't keep this up forever. We are seeing the symptoms of a dying (or radically changing) industry. The prices are skyrocketing.

I'm going to have to take it for a road test first.

USE the WINDFALL of money to fund educating doctors to assure adequate health care access for all.

People are so fucking stupid to think this couldnt work.

#152 | Posted by truthhurts

I think it would work as Medicare and the VA works, but I don't think it's the best way to do it.

We are also the only country to put a man on the moon.

I worked in the cafeteria of my college so I could put myself through school. I then joined the Navy and finished my degree. Went into high-tech after the Navy and rolled that money into multi-family and apartment complexes after attending a Dave Lindahl RE seminar.

I built my Real Estate investment company from scratch. If that annoys you, good!

Charge a dollar? For what? I rarely deal with my tenants. That's what my management company is for. BTW, thanks for telling me how to run my business. I file that under 'useless'.
