Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Officials now say tragedy was only averted on Northwest flight 253 because a makeshift detonator failed to work properly. Bomb experts say there was more than enough explosive to bring down the Northwest jet, which had nearly 300 people aboard, had the detonator not failed.

Maybe one day we'll all have to fly in the nude. I'd hate to sit down after some guy'd had the bubbly rumblings.

Maybe one day we'll all have to fly in the nude.

It'll be fun sitting in the aisle seat while people attempt to cram their baggage into the overhead compartment.

He must not have received a Xmas card from the Obama's. Remember the card that says "We are all your friends..."

ANDY....
Or if they drop something in the aisle and feel the need to stick their dingleberried hairy butt crack a foot away from your face. Not good.

Hahah.

I'm reminded of the scene in Airplane! with turbulence and the topless lady. Nude plane travel wouldn't be that bad in some cases.

Dumb.

Screening this would-be terrorist for explosive
substances (even though he was on a no-fly list)
prior to boarding would have been convenient.

Another scary thought is this:

If this POS had been successful, would it have
been characterized as another
unfortunate boo boo?

"I'm sure he was just a misguided and disenfranchised mohammeddin...shame on everyone for thinking otherwise...no terror here - just like 911..."

Come on, Nanc. You can do better than that. Have you really met anyone who points out that maybe Muslims have a reason to be upset, or who asserts that not all Muslims are terrorists, and who asserts that the attacks of 9/11 were not terrorist acts? If so, please point your finger only at those few people. I know a lot of activists, and a lot of people who believe that Muslims are not all of a single stripe, and not one of them has asserted what you appear to be playing on. (I do know a few people who believe that 9/11 was not the doings of foreign terrorists, but that's independent of any feelings about Muslims.)

Nanc believes that there are those who wear white hats and those who wear black hats. It's easier that way.

Lemme see here.... a 23 year old guy trying to ignite and explosive device between his legs...

There are a LOT of unanswered questions about this incident. Was this an unsuccessful bombing, like the attempted "shoe bombing"? Was the device actually more powerful than the explosion that actually happened (which was described as like a "balloon popping"?)

Or, was this just a completely inept incident, by someone with al-Qaida sympathies but no actual affiliation? Was the bomb in actuality a little one, like a cherry bomb or very large firecracker?

If this was al-Qaida, it was their most inept operation ever.

Schuringa said he saw that Abdulmutallab had his pants open and he was holding a burning object between his legs.

"I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away," Schuringa said.

He said he managed to pull an object tucked between Abdulmutallab's legs.

"Water! Water," Schuringa screamed. He heard fire extinguishers as he pulled Abdulmutallab out of his seat and dragged him to the front of the plane.

all they need is "they both fell to the floor spent" and you got porn.

I am far more scared of idiots texting and driving on the highway going to the airport than I am of terrorists. Guess where the overreaction is going to occur?

He must not have received a Xmas card from the Obama's. Remember the card that says "We are all your friends..."

Yea, let's blame it on Obama. Ignorant midtown hillbillies can all get together for another Tea Party and foster love in their typical style.

(I do know a few people who believe that 9/11 was not the doings of foreign terrorists, but that's independent of any feelings about Muslims.)

So why wasn't Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab 23 year old Nigerian charged with attempted murder on all passengers aboard the Plane??????

Why is the only charge against him,
(Attempting to destroy a Northwest Airlines aircraft on it's final approach to Detroit Metropolitan Airport)???

Does anyone know Why he wasn't charged with attempted murder???

It'll be fun sitting in the aisle seat while people attempt to cram their baggage into the overhead compartment.

Maybe having someone's dick smacking you in the face is your idea of fun, but not mine.

And already the kneejerk reactions from the TSA are starting......one carryon and cannot leave your seat 1 hour before landing and nothing in your lap, no pillow, no computer no nothing.

How about not allowing lighters and matches on planes? Oh noooooo the tobacco lobby won't allow that.

So why wasn't Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab 23 year old Nigerian charged with attempted murder on all passengers aboard the Plane??????

Because they will charge him with Nigerian email scam instead.

Tosser: Because they will charge him with Nigerian email scam instead.

Why would they charge such an atrocious attempt of murder with such a frivolous scam???

Why would they charge such an atrocious attempt of murder with such a frivolous scam???

Because Mickey Mouse told them to.

Idiot. LOL

Tosser: Because Micky Mouse told them to. Idiot. LOL

Then who is this mole called Mickey Mouse, Tosser???

"In the wake of the terrorism attempt Friday on a Northwest Airlines flight, federal officials on Saturday imposed a new layer of restrictions on travelers that could lengthen lines at airports and limit the ability of international passengers to move about an airplane.

Among other steps being imposed, passengers on international flights coming to the United States will apparently have to remain in their seats for the last hour of a flight without any personal items on their laps. "

www.nytimes.com

Something about this is confusing me...read a story here that had a bit of detail:

www.telegraph.co.uk

These are the parts, taken as a whole, I dont get. Can anyone explain? Other than it's retarded.

(from the story in the link above)
1. It is understood that the suspect had been on an intelligence database of suspected extremists in the United States, but he was not on the "no-fly list", meaning he was known to the authorities but not considered high risk.

2. Abdulmutallab had flown on a KLM flight from Lagos to Schiphol airport, Amsterdam, before boarding the flight to the US. The suspect had been granted a visa to travel to the US in June 2008 valid until June 2010 after claiming that he planned to attend a religious ceremony.

Not sure which is worse, if the airline knew he was on the list of suspected extreemists and did nothing, or they dont have access to information one would expect they'd have access to.

My biggest issue with this is the ability of this guy, who, regardless of being on that list, was able to get a 2 year visa to attend a "religious event"?

I'm ignorant of most religions (especially my own), but the only religious event I can think of that would take multiple years is a jihad (or another religions equivalent to "kill em all, let god sort em out" type activities).

Thanks

Loh

Everyone should be most concerned why the SSOB wasn't charged with attempted multi murder with murder attempt counts of all passengers aboard that plane...

The SSOB was charged with a lesser crime of attempting to blow up an airplane, which will put him on the streets in 5 or 10years, or maybe less. Our homeland security as well as government is as corrupt as the sheeple of the U.S. are ignorant...

#31 Dr. FG

I hope that the fact is that they haven't yet charged him with murder, but plan to. If it is otherwise, then I say: wtf?!?

They will file more charges--don't worry on that account.

The jihadist comes from a wealthy family--got a degree in engineering from London University and was radicalized while in Yemen on holiday.

Don't blame Obama for his order to kill Awlaki in Yemen and killed 30 other AQ's instead.

One has nothing to do with the other. (snark)

Anal probes for everyone (thanks, goddamned jihadists!)!

Great. PETN underwear. That's a stain....

sounds like another BS story from the powers that be...

Michael Rivero of whatreallyhappened.com had this to say on the 'update':>)

"80 Grams of PETN is roughly the equivalent of ten blasting caps, or 4 Hollywood type blood pack squibs. Yes, if 80 grams of PETN were sewn into the crotch of our "terrorist's" underwear and detonated, it would blow his balls off, but with the shock wave absorbed by his legs, not much more than that.

"I think this underwear story is being put out to explain how our "terrorist" got past the full body scanners at the Amsterdam airport; by claiming the bomb was concealed behind the man's testicles.

"But as an explosive, 80 grams of PETN is insufficient to bring down an airplane from the crotch of a traveler's pants!

"This is simply not a credible story"

more likely?

Terrorist Airliner Explosion: Maybe Just a Battery?
www.ireport.com
Could it be possible that the government and media are jumping to an embarrassing conclusion, along with potential racial profiling here? I am an electrical engineer by profession for over 30 years, and the description of the explosion sounds just like a faulty battery on a personal electronic device (PED). If the plane was just starting it's descent, it could be he was stowing his device at the time of the explosion (turning it on/off, cabin pressure fluctuations, etc.), a more likely time for the battery to explode if it were faulty. These PED battery explosions are typically "small" and limited in area, consistent with the reported events.

Meh... personal electronic devices don't generally have fuses that you need to light. He's right, though, the batteries in those things can be dangerous and when they go, it's spectacular. Skip to 2:05 for the good stuff ;)

On a more sober note, a korean man was killed by his cellphone awhile ago.

"While the plane was blowing up..."

Actually the plane didn't blow up. Neither did anything else, including the "explosive device".

Just to keep you up to date.

We have to start talking nicer to these guys and engage them in conversation---also, some bilingual education on our part wouldn't hurt---how about more diversity training--also, that Dutch guy that grabbed the Muslim challenged person should have engaged him in some dialogue prior to behaving like a Neanderthal---I hope he's sued by the Muslim challenged person; at least he should be prosecuted.

Actually,
The seat he chose was carefully chosen for the potential of the damage it could have caused.

Right over the wing and fuel for the plane.

As we already know, airplanes make great fire missiles, even if they aren't full.

Yeah,I end up in those shitty seats all the time.ruins the view.

I ask for them. I don't trust anyone other than myself to get those emergency exit doors open in case of a disaster. If you don't want to sit there, tell a flight attendant that you are not comfortable operating the emergency exit doors. They are required by law to move you .

I thought terrorism ended when Obama got elected?

Terrorist attacks by organized groups in the US is exceedingly rare. Ever since 9/11, the feds have brought the heat on actual terror organizations. While groups of people have a tendency to leave a trail and raise red flags, it's harder to guard against a lone, determined lunatic. The lone individual is the sort that everyone looks at in the aftermath and thinks, "yeah, it was coming." They are undone by friends, family, or their own amateurism, not government dragnets or drone strikes.

You shouldn't confuse the terrifying acts of these sorts of people with genuine terrorism, which is a tool employed by groups of people with political agendas.

I don't trust anyone other than myself to get those emergency exit doors open in case of a disaster

I agree, but when the reverse thrusters kick in and the wings look like they're going to break off...

"The seat he chose was carefully chosen for the potential of the damage it could have caused."

I've seen this comment several times now. Is there anything that says whether this seat was chosen ahead of time or assigned on check-in?

It's easy to get that seat. My company makes my travel arrangements and I go online right after they do and choose my seat. I get the exit row 95% of the time.

Not only do I distrust everyone else when it comes to operating the emergency exit, I am 6'4" and the extra leg room is nice.

No wonder you never sleep on the rig

"It's easy to get that seat. My company makes my travel arrangements and I go online right after they do and choose my seat. I get the exit row 95% of the time."

I can do that too, but could this guy pick his own seat from Nigeria? If so he should have gone first class and used the shitter behind the cockpit to increase the chances of his weak bomb actually damaging something.

This looks more and more like a terrorist attack by the Three Stooges.

If so he should have gone first class and used the shitter behind the cockpit to increase the chances of his weak bomb actually damaging something.

Perhaps he couldn't afford it because no one in the US offered to help him get his $1.8 million dollars left to him by his rich uncle. *grin*

The article said that this guy had the explosives hidden in his underwear. Ever since the Shoe Bomber incident, we have had to take our shoes off and send them through the scanner. I wonder if we will have to do that with our underwear now?

Here comes the choo choo...

"Perhaps he couldn't afford it..."

Ah, but we know he could, don't we?

"I wonder if we will have to do that with our underwear now?"

Gads... what if I don't actually have underwear? Will I be invaded? :-)

The carry on restriction is just a bunch of crap to help the airlines make more money as they all charge for checked bags now. Do you honestly think homeland security never came up with this scenario before?

Failed detonator...
This is like the morons with 100 pounds of coke in the trunk, who are pulled over on the highway for a broken tail light.

ahhh ok?? This guy was acting by himself then? he had no political agenda??? yep your right. simple "law enforcement" issue, your savior Obama has it all under control...

"This guy was acting by himself then? he had no political agenda???"

I think that is the big question. Unless he's capable of manufacturing his own PETN he obviously had help. Obviously had had some kind of agenda or he wouldn't have done it.

Now, was this a plot hatched by the real global terrorist enemy? Or just an independant group of nuts? Hard to say.

Judging by the amateurishness of the whole thing, my guess it wasn't well thought out.

"ya don't seem mentaly capable of discerning any type of "real enemy" threat"

Why do you use quotes and change what I said?

You left out the "global" part. I believe there is a global, organized terrorist movement that has a very defined political agenda. I think that agenda is mostly to cause Western powers to spend themselves to death. I think it's working.

I also believe there are small groups of nuts that have their own plots that are not organized or supplied by the global effort, whether they'd like to be or not.

When bin Laden and Omar first heard about this latest attack they might have said, "Drat! It didn't work!". They may have just as well said, "WTF?! Who is this guy?".

So Obama passes his first test due to blind luck....I sense a pattern.

It is nice to see that a terrorist attack on a US Flag carrier isn't interfering with Obama's "Tiger Woods Ultimate Golfing Experience" in Hawaii

I also believe there are small groups of nuts that have their own plots that are not organized or supplied by the global effort,

umm, it's not breaking news that AlQaeda's "gimmick" is the small group thing

anyway, lets call your "small groups" - - cells

a bunch of those "cells" thingys might be much more difficult to keep track of than say . . . a batallion of troops

however,
IF those "cell" thingys ordered ALL their guns & bombs from "Jihad-Mart" they would become very . . easy to track

just sayin' - - U R very naive or have confirmed the gvt employee part

"U R very naive or have confirmed the gvt employee part"

Ok I get it. This guy and his buddies were just another "cell" like the 20 guys with their visas and flight schools and who knows what else that came up with the 9/11 attacks all on their own?

The latter group were just more creative and successful.

I see. Kudos to Homeland Security for having thet Dutch guy on board to put the fire out. Obviously he would not have taken that on himself without some Borg-like programming.

Israel has it right. Show up 3-4 hours before the flight. Sit in a room and sweat it out while they watch the whole group of passengers. If they don't like how you look or act, they pull you for full search. They can simply say "sorry you look too dark/ Muslim/ skinhead/ crazy/ smelly/ insane/ sketchy/ toussled/ terroristic for this flight. Sorry you're not flying today". End of story.

No way your grandmother who is 84 yrs old and looks like Betty White needs to get frisked while Omar the Tent Maker skirts through. If you fit a profile, then you should be fucked. Sorry, but we've got to do what we need to protect the majority.

One option: Create two classes of flights: safe flights with the rules above, with tight screening and ejection from flights based on profiling and the neo-cons can take those since they don't mind employing jackboot tactics against the civil rights of others; and then create hippie flights that do not violate anyone's rights, and employ no profiling, and searches granny's bags instead of the Nigerioan psycho whose name is already in the Suspected Terror Database, and let those flights blow up but without hurting anyone's feelings. See how many hippies need to die in explosions before the ACLU is calling for full body cavity searches of the darkies at the gates. My guess is 3.

Kudos to Homeland Security for having thet Dutch guy on board to put the fire out. Obviously he would not have taken that on himself without some Borg-like programming.

hmm . . . R U gettin' ur talking points from Janet Reno-Neopolitano??

she said that the Dutch guy showed that the system worked perfectly

hmm, a freudian slip?

I got the Dutchboy & a Dyke in the same sentence

The report is that the jihadist was 'surprised' when the Dutch hero jumped the seats and came at him.

No wonder--the jihadist was told by AQ that the damn thing would go off and explode and it didn't.

And they are so quick to claim it is not part of a larger plot...

Same words for Hasan's duck shooting at Ft. Hood.

This could have been a test flight. Or, they could have had 16 other jihadists on 16 other flights with the same plot.

And when a rich banker father comes to a US Embassy and tells them his son is phucking crazy and radicalized--take him at his word. The father has nothing to gain.

That is a credible piece of information and should not have been ignored.

Just like Hasan should not have been ignored.

Except when we live in Obamaworld--where the acts of jihadists are reduced to man-made disasters or some such dribble.

'"Passengers can expect to see heightened screening, more bomb-sniffing dog and officer units and behavioral-detection specialists at some airports, but there will also be unspecified less visible precautions as well, officials said."

And anal cavity searches. It's just a matter of time.'

The price of political correctness. These attacks tend to be carried out by a certain type of person. But using what we know about past attackers to narrow down the field when trying to weed out future attackers would be racist.

We must act as if little old ladies from Peoria are just as likely to blow up an airliner as anyone else or we are horrible racists. Being a good people requires willful stupidity on our part.

If you fit a profile, then you should be fucked.

You fit the profile of both a blithering idiot and a rightwing radical. Prepare to be fucked.

"she said that the Dutch guy showed that the system worked perfectly"

She did? What system was she talking about? They have a system for random passengers to take action on their own? Who would have thought, I was just being sarcastic.

The Dutch system didn't work. They said that secondary screening (wipe test) would have picked up the explosive, which is probably true.

They also said they do secondary screening on passengers from Nigeria, but there is no evidence that they did.

What system was she talking about? They have a system for random passengers to take action on their own? Who would have thought, I was just being sarcastic

(Jake)TAPPER: But, Secretary Napolitano, you keep saying everybody acted the way they were supposed to.
Clearly the passengers and the crew of that Northwest Airlines flight did. But I think there are questions about whether everybody in the U.S. government did.

-- so many of us are subject to random security searches all the time, how come somebody who is on a terrorist database isn't subject to more stringent security when they check in to a flight to the U.S.? Why does that automatically just happen?

NAPOLITANO: Well, if he had had specific information that would have put him on the selectee list or indeed on the no-fly list, he would NOT have actually gotten on a plane.

Now once this incident occurred, everything went according to clockwork. Not only sharing throughout the air industry, but also sharing with state and local law enforcement, products were going out on Christmas Day, they went out yesterday, and also to the industry to make sure that the traveling public remains safe. .

And I would leave you with that message, the traveling public is safe. We have instituted some additional screening and security measures in light of this incident. But again, everybody reacted as they should, the system -- once the incident occurred, the system worked.

she is clueless

"But I think there are questions about whether everybody in the U.S. government did."

Well no kidding. They are knee jerk reacting idiots. Case in point: the "Shoe Bomber"

He smuggled the very same PETN past security in a shoe so the knee-jerk reaction was to make everyone take off their shoes going though security. THAT sure took care of the problem.

Now it's how many years later and all you had to do to get PETN past security was not put it in your shoe?

That's brilliant. Now they're concentrating on the last hour of the flight just because this last fool tried to pull the trigger landing? Good... won't be a way to work around that for sure.

I'd like the contract for installing the washroom door alert timers on airliners... you know, the ones that will sound the alarm when someone has been in the shitter too long?

I'm sure the bid is closed already though.

Except when we live in Obamaworld--where the acts of jihadists are reduced to man-made disasters or some such dribble.
