Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

For five nights last week, Rachel Maddow devoted time on her MSNBC show to sharp criticism of President Obama over the House passage of the Stupak amendment. Calling it "the biggest restriction on abortion rights in a generation," Maddow wondered about the consequences for Democrats "if they don't get women or anybody who's pro-choice to ever vote for them again."

Good article. I really enjoy Rachel Maddow. And I'm happy to see both a female and lesbian be up front about who she is and what she believes.

Regardless where you stand politically, it's definitely a positive step in the eyes of diversity. Not to mention I love the fact she's a big dork and she's not afraid to admit that either!

That guy's ratings are sinking, and he's just trying to get attention.

Maddow is among the smarter hosts of the opinion shows.

Rachel is a strange name for a dude.
Oh well, it's nice to see some people on the left are capable of criticizing Obama. A few of you around here could take a lesson or two.

The joke that Rachel Maddow is a man never gets old. She's a lesbian with short hair who doesn't wear makeup! That makes her a man! Har har!

Maddow has always been willing to criticize Obama and other Democrats. This was true during the campaign as well. The article's description of her as a liberal and not a Democrat is accurate.

We could use another 100 people like that on TV, from all sides. If you're not willing to throw your own side under the bus when they are wrong, you're useless.

Yep, the civil war among Democrats continues. How they can expect to remian a majority party by pushing out moederates and putting in place a Maddow/Kos purity test is beyond me.

It's true. If we had very many "real" Liberals like Maddow around here instead of moderate to lib Dems, the local wingers would go absolutely apeshit.

And real Liberals are frustrated with Obama's pragmatic real world approach, just as they were with Bill Clinton.

Now, it's possible that Obama is maybe just a tad Left of Bubba, but how many Libs want to still defend their primary position that Obama is Left of Hillary, particularly on social issues?

Not many, says here.

But real Libs, like say, Dennis the K, who have my utmost respect, and those that are more ideology driven on the Right, should get used to moderate, real world approaches, as that is what turns the ship of state, albeit ever so slowly and incrementally.

How they can expect to remian a majority party by pushing out moederates and putting in place a Maddow/Kos purity test is beyond me.

Do you really think its the moderates that were pushed out?

Really?

If that were true, there wouldn't have been a third party candidate for POTUS from the left in the last three elections.

-Called Doc and Corky Useless

I criticized Bubba when he appeared in Indonesian wearing one of those stupid shirts for a photo op with a dictatorial leader who liked to purchase cattle prods from the US for crowd control.

As soon as Obama does something as stupid, I'll criticize him also. But, considering that he is cleaning up 8 years of GOP disasters, I've been willing to give him plenty of slack.

... that you're not bothered by you thin skinned pussy

The Maddow jokes are dumb and completely played out. I'm not clear on how it makes me "thin skinned" to say that you need fresher material.

- pushing out moederates (sic)

The reason Dems are having trouble passing their agenda is because they are now the big tent party, with moderates hanging out all over the place.

"The reason Dems are having trouble passing their agenda is because they are now the big tent party, with moderates hanging out all over the place."

The fact that the majority of U.S. voters, ESPECIALLY the independents, dislike the current policies COULD have someting to do with it, don't you think?

Crocked fish doesn't know the difference between a man and a woman. Not surprised.

But, considering that he is cleaning up 8 years of GOP disasters, I've been willing to give him plenty of slack.

translation = I'm not going to criticize him. And it's GWB's fault.

#17 Some people who were brave with their votes a year ago get cold feet when progress is slow, or when the economy really is as bad as people said it would be.

'S OK, their spines will stiffen as the time it takes to recover from 8 years of GOP disasters grows shorter.

The problem with some disapproval now is that it is from both sides, those who want faster progress and those afraid to lose the status quo.

#21 Doesn't need translation, unless one fails to admit the 8 years of GOP disasters.

Hysterical historical revision isn't a pretty thing to watch.

Funny seeing Dems support "the biggest restriction on abortion rights in a generation."

I don't understand how the Stupak Amendment is as big a deal as some liberals are making it. Abortions are not expensive. Even if the government refuses to fund them in any public health insurance plan, women who decide to terminate pregnancies will still be able to do so. And if the price of getting universal health insurance is that abortions can't be funded under a public plan, aren't we still way ahead of where we were?

The subject of criticism has to have an 'R' by his/her name.

"I don't understand how the Stupak Amendment is as big a deal as some liberals are making it."

I agree, the vast majority of abortions are paid for out of pocket, generally very few are paid for by insurance anyway. I think some liberals are realizing this and it almost seems that the amendment may backfire on conservatives by giving moderates an excuse to vote for health care reform and tell their most conservative constituents they are really fighting abortion by doing so.

So are you, time for all you libs to come out of the closet

Ann Coulter is an insult comedian like Don Rickles. She makes good money as an entertainer, but the idea she should be taken seriously is the biggest joke in her act.

Obama's been taking plenty of hits from MSNBC for months now, e.g. Ed Schultz, Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow.

Chair has already been judged and the verdict is in.

Why does MSNBC insist on whacko's like Overbite and Madcow when there are intelligent and semi-logical folks like Thom Hartmann that would be a much larger asset to the progressive movement than those two amateurs?

To decry the lunacy that is Beck and pat Maddow on the back seems a little twisted, no?

Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts might?

I didn't know you were capable of expressing so much butthurt, Chair. One little comment about stale jokes about the great Rachel Maddow and you're having an emo morning. Do you need me to apologize?

the vast majority of abortions are paid for out of pocket, generally very few are paid for by insurance anyway

Wasn't sure if you were right about that, here's what I found.

A 2003 study by the Guttmacher Institute found that 13 percent of abortions in 2001 were directly billed by abortion providers to private insurance. Abortion opponents say that shows that eliminating abortion coverage is not much of an issue. But the Guttmacher Institute itself points out that its numbers don't include women whose abortions were paid for by Medicaid (17 states cover Medicaid abortions using state funds); abortions for which women submitted their own reimbursement requests; or those paid for out of pocket.

It's a simple fact. You're the one that got his feathers ruffled over cracks at Mandow's appearance, and used the "stale joke" deflection to cover your hurt feelings.
When it's pointed out that you read even staler jokes (Vern's calculator, mAnn Coulter, Chimpy, etc) fly by daily without so much as a comment, you try to make it in to something else.

Face it, there is a Rachel Mandow thread here MAYBE once a month, and that's being generous. You aren't seeing enough people comment on her manly appearance enough to make the joke stale.
You assigning "butt-hurt" to me after your comment is hilarious.

Apparently you did not see her interview with Obama. There were no tough questions, no "watch dog" attitude, nothing except a friendly little glowing chat. She sat through the interview batting her eyes, giggling and bobbing her head as she hung onto Obama's every word. A deer in headlights comes to mind. She looked like she finally met a man she could love. If she does criticize a "D" then you can rest assured there is an "R" right behind to be criticized.

I believe that was his point, which is why he listed numerous other jokes that are played out that you never comment on.

She looked like she finally met a man she could love.

That's funny, but in that interview she asked the following questions:

Why do more troops in Afghanistan equal a higher likelihood of success?

What's the exit strategy for Afghanistan?

How long are we going to be there?

She also pressed him in followup about his premise that putting a larger military footprint in Afghanistan was consistent with our goals to assist Pakistan.

It wasn't a softball interview.

Oh well, it's nice to see some people on the left are capable of criticizing Obama. A few of you around here could take a lesson or two.

I read every Maddow thread because I'm interested in Maddow. Every time, the same stupid joke dominates the discussion.

I quietly chuckled at this at my desk and as a result farted a little. Thanks for interrupting the work place.

Ah yes, the "progressive" debate always has to be centered around abortion and gay rights. Why didn't she criticize Obama and Congress on the "healthcare bill" only offering a public option to 10% of the population? Why didn't she discuss the inefectiveness of the legislation in lowering healthcare costs? Where's the criticism for Obama on carrying out promises made during his campaign? There's so much the political hacks at MSNBC could hold the Democrats accountable for... But instead Maddow focuses on abortion. As for the healthcare bill, I don't know why anyone would consider this a triumph in legislation. It's good to have something I suppose, but they could have done far better.

Let's just let that one speak for itself...

" It's good to have something I suppose, but they could have done far better."

Dennis Kucinich is saying he won't even support it and that it is just a give away to the insurance companies. Personally, I can't see how it makes sense to subsidize poor people so they can buy insurance from a for insurance company when we already have Medicare we could just put them into for less money. I really don't see why we don't just make it so that anyone can buy into Medicare or buy private insurance if they choose. We'd end up saving billions and I thought that was the whole idea.

LOL!

What a tard, doesn't think there's a legitimate criticism to be had of our president. That's pretty extreme, but whatever.

I suppose you are with Obama in his support of the Patriot Act, the bailouts which didn't require enough accountability, escalating Afghanistan, continued CIA renditions, going back on his promises of transparency, Geithner's appointment, just to name a few examples.

I illustrate with your handling of backing to a fault the fake Beck slander web site [hypothesizing it was his own fault that he brought it upon himself by suing and producing media coverage].

My opinion on that had nothing to do with Beck's politics. I would've said the same thing if the fake-slander site was about Keith Olbermann.

The point, LODie, is that any criticism of Obama SHOULD come from the left, and you give some pretty good examples in "the Patriot Act, the bailouts, escalating Afghanistan, continued CIA renditions, going back on promises of transparency..." The idiocy that this man leads us down the road to commonism, soshalism or Dachau is too ludicrous for words. herm

Finally, the truth comes out!

For years I have posted factual (in Liberal lingo that means 'withering') information that has driven Rogers nuts.

The truth has no place in an echo chamber, especially one operated by a HuffWhore who yearns to purge dissenting thoughts. Which is why I have been exiled so many times.

Most recently it was some Libtard who posted something vulgar and off topic. I told him to piss off, and, of course, I was the one exiled.

What a show of spine and character!

And he thought it made him sound so BIG years ago when DR first started. Now he can't handle the truth and only seeks to kill it.

BTW, it's not "har! har!" I don't expect some humorless, narrow-minded, out-of-touch bigot to get the humor.

But after (and only after) some Libtard is proven grossly wrong and obviously stupid does he get a HAR~! HAR~!

It's a Simpson's reference. But I imagine that most of that humor is also lost on dimwits

For years I have posted factual (in Liberal lingo that means 'withering') information that has driven Rogers nuts.
