Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Three members of a Lodi, Calif., family who ate death cap mushrooms have been hospitalized in intensive care in San Francisco. The mushrooms, among the world's most lethal, are starting to sprout in the Bay Area because of recent rains.

Things got bad, things got worse
I guess it's from the shrooms
Oh, Lord, fucked here in Lodi again

Damn Bush and his global warming caused this wet season which resulted in the shrooms...

RIP Briwo

Why?

wow this is bush's fault too? is anything ever NOT going to be his fault?

That's just ShitStainWilly trying to be "clever".

Just about a year ago, I set out on the road,
Seekin' my fame and fortune, lookin' for a pot of gold.
Things got bad, and things got worse, I guess you will know the tune.
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.

Rode in on the Greyhound, I'll be walkin' out if I go.
I was just passin' through, must be seven months or more.
Ran out of time and money, looks like they took my friends.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

The man from the magazine said I was on my way.
Somewhere I lost connections, ran out of songs to play.
I came into town, a one night stand, looks like my plans fell through
Oh ! Lord, stuck in Lodi again.

Mmmm...
If I only had a dollar, for ev'ry song I've sung.
And ev'ry time I've had to play while people sat there drunk.
You know, I'd catch the next train back to where I live.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.
Oh ! Lord, I'm stuck in Lodi again.

Remeber kids, Only take what you can handle AND identify. And always know your dealer.

The Chapel:(aka Niceville)
Please, CA mushrooms? I live in Washington. Every time it rains, Liberty Bell shrooms start popping up everywhere.

Tea anyone?

If you're not sure, just do a simple spore color test.

And since Corky is posting tunes:

Me and my uncle went ridin' down,
South Colorado, West Texas bound.
We stopped over in Santa Fe,
That bein' the point just about half way,
And you know it was the hottest part of the day.

I took the horses up to the stall,
Went to the barroom, ordered drinks for all.
Three days in the saddle, you know my body hurt,
It bein' summer, I took off my shirt,
And I tried to wash off some of that dusty dirt.

West Texas cowboys, they's all around,
With liquor and money, they're loaded down.
So soon after payday, know it seemed a shame;
You know my uncle, he starts a friendly game,
High-low jack and the winner take the hand.

My uncle starts winnin'; cowboys got sore.
One of them called him, and then two more,
Accused him of cheatin'; Oh no, it couldn't be.
I know my uncle, he's as honest as me,
And I'm as honest as a Denver man can be.

One of them cowboys, he starts to draw,
And I shot him down, Lord he never saw.
Shot me another, oh damn he won't grow old.
In the confusion, my uncle grabbed the gold,
And we high-tailed it down to Mexico.

I love those cowboys, I love their gold,
I loved my uncle, God rest his soul,
Taught me good, Lord, Taught me all I know
Taught me so well, I grabbed that gold
And I left his dead ass there by the side of the road.

Written by Scott Mackenzie I believe. But the Dead did it better than anyone.

#18, I'd love it when they would segue from this right into Mexicali Blues.

Speaking of shrooms, here's an interesting 20 minute talk about a study of mushrooms and religion. Some amazing results...

You guys missed the point of this. These people thought the shrooms were puffball mushrooms because they were east/souteast Asian immigrants were there are no death caps (almost all the deaths from eating these mushrooms are from Asian immigrants). DEATH CAPS, I couldn't believe that is really what they are called, but it is.

Mushroom toxicology is pretty nuts and this family/genus (Amanita) of mushrooms is particularly fascinating. Just look at some of the names of them.

Death caps

death angel, destroying angel or more precisely Western North American destroying angel.

And I saved the best one for last, remember that red mushroom with white spots that was in Alice in Wonderland, Amanita muscaria.
Unlike the psychedelic mushrooms of the Psilocybe, Amanita muscaria has been rarely consumed recreationally.

Oh yeah, Me and my Uncle is one Bob's best.
Can't go wrong with CCR either.

On the way to surf dawn patrol, a couple of decades ago, my friend, some acquaintances of hers and I stopped on the side of the road out on the 520. It was early and the fog had just started to lift and the morning was still cool. One of the guys said "I'll be right back" and hopped a fence into a pasture. There was a homestead on the property and the front porch light was still on. A couple of the other guys decided to follow and unknown to me, they were looking for mushrooms. My girlfriend and I decided to stay put. I was raised to know that you don't trespass on property that is not yours...especially out in the boonies. About 15 minutes after their departure I heard a couple of blasts...and about thirty seconds later all three of our horticulturalists were observed to be hauling ass back towards the car. I jumped into the drivers seat and my girlfriend got into shotgun position. All three guys made it into the car and we sped off. Two were laughing their heads off and showed us their finds; white stemmed with brown capped fungi that I decided to pass on...the other guy was cussing up a storm and didn't stop until we got to 2nd light. When we arrived he showed us the reason for his tirade; the owner of the pasture shot him on the right side of the ass and the back of his right thigh with a load of rock salt. He missed a fine set that morning and sat on shore the entire time.
