Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The nation's largest health insurance carrier is urging its employees to lobby the Senate against reform proposals that would hurt the firm's bottom line, according to copies of e-mails released Thursday by a liberal advocacy group. UnitedHealth Group, which is based in Minnesota, sent an e-mail message (PDF) to its 75,000 employees on Tuesday asking them to write their senators and local newspapers in opposition to a public insurance option, alleging that "government-run health care" will force "millions of Americans" to drop their current coverage.

Of course, only labor unions are allowed to lobby anyone in the Liberal world. If companies urge their employees to lobby that's a bad thing, even if those employee's jobs could be in jeopardy.

Oh I thought they would embrace their bottom line being hurt. Strange.

What this company should do is take a few bucks from their employee's check in order to hire lobbyist against Obamacare, after all, if unions can do so, why not companies?

Yeah! What a bunch of evil business people, they lack compassion and don't want to share!

who is going to write all of the policies? brokers or government employees?

Personally, I decided a long time ago that the lower level employees of an evil enterprise such as United Health Care are just as guilty as are the CEOs. I would imagine that the companies screen out independent thinkers and have mostly head nodders working for them. If they told they to rescind the coverage for their own mother's cancer treatment most of these lackeys would not their heads and say yes master.
Sorry but IMHO health insurance employees are scum bags. Go get honest jobs.

Yeah, go get honest jobs, like being a government bureaucrat! Because if the government rations care Danni doesn't care about that.

???

Thats like saying E3s are just as responsible for Iraq/Afghanistan as CiC. I really don't see how you can make that judgement on lower level employees at health insurance companies.

The Government can not even manage their own programs without losing their a$$. How can they manage a huge one such as Health care. What a joke!

They are really managing immigration well also! LMAO!

The only difference between a banker/wall st. executive/politician/lobbyist vs. a whore is that the whore can do a good job.

Too bad corrupt insurance company. Your going out of business!!! This would have never happened if you weren't hell bent on screwing the American people over.

Oh, come on! It's Danni. She doesn't need any rhyme or reason...Just a "D".

I don't think this is how 726 wanted this discussion to go.

I don't think health care reform is anywhere close to being a done deal, and an argument can be made that the current bill will just give these 'corrupt' business millions of paying customers (or else be fined or jailed by the government!)

They will be forced to cover all comers and not allowed to rescind coverage unless fraud has been committed.

Many will fold which is fine by me.

fraud has been committed

Will not disclosing a pre-existing condition be considered fraud?

That won't be an issue since the insurance companies won't be able to deny for that any longer. There will also be a cap on how much they can charge in premiums. Insurance will no longer be insurance but a subsidy. They will all fold making way for universal payer. Taxes will go up and greedy rethugs will bitch.

Bottom line is that health insurance companies make huge profits reducing and excluding health benefits of their customers.

The second bottom line is that their mega profits are responsible for raising health care costs. If you examine the CEO compensation packages for profit and non-profit health care insurers you will find that they average from the low multiple millions to the high multiple millions. That only includes the CEOs. Exclude the compensation of CEOs and the many CEO lieutenants and we could add many health care staff and nurses who actually perform health care.

For profit and big bucks for CEOs means you get screwed, and never that you get better health care.

"Thats like saying E3s are just as responsible for Iraq/Afghanistan as CiC."

Bull shit. Military personnel agree to defend this country and fight its wars. It's not their job to determine whether or not those wars are justified.
An insurance company employee though, knows good and well, that denying coverage, rescinding coverage, etc. is flat out immoral. There is no question, they are just willing to do it because the company pays them well.

"I don't think health care reform is anywhere close to being a done deal, and an argument can be made that the current bill will just give these 'corrupt' business millions of paying customers (or else be fined or jailed by the government!)"

Sadly, it's much worse than "an argument could be made." It's a fact that because of the blue dogs, Lieberman, etc. they have gutted the bill of anything resembling reform and it's just another give away to the insurance companies. The idea of government subsidies for poor people to buy private insurance is ridiculous, it would be cheaper and better to just put those people on Medicare.
The people of America do not control our Congress, the lobbyists do and it is disgusting.

Doctors always win whether dealing with the Insurance Companies, customers or the Government.

I don't care if surgeons income drops 67%, but its a tough schooling and risky career so they deserve a better than average living. 2/3rd's of their staff's time is devoted to forcing Insurance Companies to pay. How absurd is that?

I was surfing through the channels about an hour ago. Daystar, one of the religious channels, was running a program against health care reform, it seemed to be sponsored by one of those right wing astroturfers. I couldn't bear to watch the lying BS but I'm pretty sure it was one of those wolves in sheep's clothing.

We all know that many of these channels just exist to make money so taking it from astroturfers rather than gullible Christians is not that much of a departure for them. Still, render under Caesar and all that. As if actual Scripture with inconvenient messages would make any impression on these scammers.

Well put.

labor unions ARE the corporations imbecile.

"Well put."

A "well put" from Hopeychangey, oh, you must be proud.

Of course, only corporations are allowed to lobby anyone in the Conservative world. If unions urge their members to lobby that's a bad thing, even if those member's jobs could be in jeopardy.

What drivel. So very easy to write both of the above worthless statements. Total drivel, both.

No einstein they take the money from their share holders dividends to lobby Washington.

The reason why companies have laws against them forcing their own people on how to vote comes out of the abuse they gave to their employees for not following their direction. Unions also came out of this as well.

you are very ignorant aren't you? What a fool.

I can't wait until the lady down at the Department of Motor Vehicles is in charge of scheduling some of the brain surgeries in this country.

"I can't wait until the lady down at the Department of Motor Vehicles is in charge of scheduling some of the brain surgeries in this country."

I've always found the DMV to be pretty efficient and none of their employees have a vested interest in denying me a license.
Not so with insurance company people, their decisions are closely scrutinized to be sure that profits are protected regardless if patients are or not.

Dear Danni,
Where I agree with you is when you say "their employees have no vested interest". Of course we know it will be the same if the Government is running health care.

Correction:
"none of their employees have a vested interest"

"What we really need to do, very quickly, very badly, is to get rid of both parties. They are both derelict in their failure to promote the general welfare."

Yeah, cuz seniors are so dissatisfied with Medicare.
The only real example we have to use to compare and sorry it seems that it makes government run health care look like a good deal.
If only Johnson hadn't passed Medicare back in the sixties your talking points today might actually prove something, but he did, so they don't.

***"The only real example we have to use to compare and sorry it seems that it makes government run health care look like a good deal."***DANNI

My father is a senior and now covered under Medicare. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about the services he has recieved (Although he did get two knee replacements, a shoulder replacement, and a pacemaker through private insurance and there weren't any complaints about that either), but I'm not sure that Medicare is the bright shinning light of government run programs. The trustee report on Medicare and SS shows that there will be a $45.8 trillion dollar shortfall over the next 75 years if there isn't something done. I have some honest reservations about creating another large federal program that, buy the admission of some on this thread, will eventually put insurance companies out of business, and down the road possibly not be sustainable at the current level of services.

I certainly respect United Health Group for trying to marshall their forces against this Federal Health plan. It's always amusing to watch a government body (local, state, or federal)work their magic. They just keep coming, wave after wave until a compromise in their favor is struck. At least the United Health Care did not come off like a bunch of weenies like the doctors did. Threatened with reduction of their fees, they rolled over like the French in World War 2.
