Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

House Democratic leaders agreed Friday night to settle an impasse over abortion by letting the entire House vote on a proposed solution, a risky decision that could determine the fate of their trillion-dollar overhaul of the nation's health care system. Under the agreement, anti-abortion Democrats will be permitted to offer an amendment on the House floor to the health-care overhaul bill. The amendment would prohibit a new government-run insurance plan created by the health-care bill from offering to cover abortion services, congressional sources said. It would also block people who received federal subsidies for the purchase of health insurance from buying policies that offered coverage for abortions.

Universal health care lowers abortion rates.

The lowest abortion rates in the world are in Western Europe where health care is available to all, according to Guttmacher Policy Review, an organization frequently quoted by both sides of the abortion debate. In the U.S., women aged 15-44 have abortions at the rate of 21 per 1,000 while in Europe that rate is 10 per 1,000.

The just beginning of trying to get a police state....Go democrats and obama.

the third rail.....say good bye to reform

it seems that extending medicare/medicaid to more people would help....right?

Here in Florida if an insurance company wants to raise homeowner ins. rates, they have to go before a board and show a need for higher rates. cant we do that nationally either?

^.^

I'm not following the healthcare law if I can help it ... right now I work for a company that provides healthcare coverage, but once I am done here, I won't buy healthcare on the principle of the thing.

"...they have to go before a board and show a need for higher rates. cant we do that nationally either?"

Nope! Because we have to cover ALL Americans, regardless of pre-exsting conditions, predilections toward unhealthy behavior, addictions, whatever! Cover em all, and let someone else sort it out later.

MORONS!

Even if it only cost 2.5% of your income? This is why I am convinced Most republicans can't do math beyond adding and subtracting with a calculator. Percentages are just simply beyond their skills.

Hope: It is in these same places, though, where demand for and use of contraception has been on the rise.

This is an argument for the increase use and availability of contraception, not western style medicine.

That's only because all they'll buy is Vermin's Republican-Broken-for those arguments when you NEED them-Calculators.

The ones he has manufRactured in Hong Kong.....

Admitting you are devoid of facts by resorting to childlike arguments is a great way to get your point across.

Rethuglican "conservative" policy:

Make every mother have that genetically malignant or unwanted child, and cut off their food stamps and health care and education. And give the richest people all the poor, elderly and middle class money. That's what freedom and Democracy is all about.

"Even if it only cost 2.5% of your income?" come on, this monster will grow and grow just like everything else our government touches

"Here in Florida if an insurance company wants to raise homeowner ins. rates, they have to go before a board and show a need for higher rates. cant we do that nationally either?"

Yeah, a rubber stamp board is the answer. Like we don't have insurance cost increases every single year.

"this monster will grow and grow just like everything else our government touches"

It will be hard for it to compete with the rate of the growth in costs that the insurance industry has given us. It is just pathetic to read the whines of opponents to health care reform as they somehow just pretend we aren't being forced to do this because of the rate of increased costs that the insurance companies have given us. Never mind the facts, righties just like to whine.
And where were you when the Republicans rammed through the Medicare Part D which everyone knew was just an outright giveaway to drug companies???

I'd start with warrantless wiretapping under the Bush Administration. Or if you really believe that there's a connection between health care and a police state, Medicare.

Universal health care makes contraception more available so unwanted pregnancies are reduced hence lowering abortion rates. It has nothing to do with western medicine.

Hope; I meant western european medicine, and that you can increase the availability of contraceptives without universal healthcare.
