Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail.

From the article:
"When confronted with this same issue during its consideration of a similar individual mandate tax, the Senate Finance Committee worked on a bipartisan basis to include language in its bill that shielded Americans from civil and criminal penalties. The Pelosi bill, however, contains no similar language protecting American citizens from civil and criminal tax penalties that could include a $250,000 fine and five years in jail."

Look on the bright side. At least in prison you get free healthcare.

This whole thing (health care) is about control. If this passes it will be the biggest assault on our freedoms ever to come through congress. Not only will they force people to buy into the system, but they will use the fact that they are paying for our coverage to control what we eat, how we live, etc.
These people need serious counseling so they can get over their need to control others.

That's coming. The gubment will not only be able to tell us what to consume, but it will also necessarily be in the business of picking winners and losers among various industries.

Better hope your company provides a service or produces a product that gubment approves of - otherwise join the unemployment line.

These morons had no problem with the Patriot Act.

Because if it has Patriot in the name, it has to be good.

Roy and Lip,

While I think the biggest assult on our freedoms is a bit over the top I am not sure how much. Requiring people to buy an "approved" healthcare plan? Who approves the plans? What kind of coverage is there?

No one knows and "they" get to decide later. We are being sold a pig in a poke and you guys just go along with it.

If my plan changes it could cost me thousands per year. Heck my company is of a size that it could be worth it to pay the fine and shove us all on the public option. How will that work out for a guy with MS who has spent 3 years building relationships with neurologist, pain managment, and PCP's? Do you think I will be able to stay with the same doc's under a public option? What happens when my neuro orders and MRI under the public option will they be allowed to order or will I have to go back to the PCP or what? I'm not trying to be difficult but these are things the bill does not address and we are just being told they will be dealt with? But how can we support a bill if we don't have crucial answers?

Telling me I must accept it and not even telling me what "it" is most certainly curtails my freedoms.

Oh and I was arguing against the patriot act before it was ever passed includng letters to congressman and senators. I also changed my email signature to Ben Franklin's quote "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." So don't tell me I didn't care about that freedom grab.

This health care bill will doom the Democratic Party for the next decade.

Hurry up and vote! Hurry!

"Telling me I must accept it and not even telling me what "it" is most certainly curtails my freedoms."

But, but...but Glorious Leader and Saint Nancy have promised us that it is all GOOD! We can rely on THEM, can't we?

So don't tell me I didn't care about that freedom grab.

No sweat, I knew you were engaging in a little hyperbole. Nothing wrong with that.

This health care thing is gonna be just like the bail-outs. Any one that ever hears a full accounting will be opposed to it, and our deliberative bodies will vote for it anyway.

Here is why it is flawed in it's very concept. Like welfare, It takes somthing from the producers and gives it to the non-producers. This encourages people to become non-producers, just like in the old soviet union and in our modern labor unions and other socialistic entities.

Yes, this will mean either the rise of or downfall of the party in charge at the moment. The rise if they make themselves the party for life...Baby Doc Demoncrats!

"Here is why it is flawed in it's very concept. Like welfare, It takes somthing from the producers and gives it to the non-producers. This encourages people to become non-producers, just like in the old soviet union and in our modern labor unions and other socialistic entities."

WOW...ol' Lipz has scored a direct hit! However, if you pay attention to the voters who put these folks in office it becomes clear to which group they belong and WHY they put these people in office. The scary part is that their numbers seem to be increasing at every election. Gotta get that "free" stuff, I guess.

The Patriot Act argument really does not hold water. Did the Patriot Act force people to buy insurance? Does it give congress the right to tell people what they can eat? How much they should weigh? How much sun they can get? Whether or not they can smoke?

That is where this thing is headed.

Again, it is all about control.

Spend the money on counseling for congress and the country will be much better off.

Freud would go mad trying to figure congress out!

"Freud would go mad trying to figure congress out!"

Not really..they just wanna get reelected and increase their power and control.

Exactly, what is wrong with their self-image, etc. that they feel this need to control others and make them like themselves? What insecurity exists within them that they cannot allow people to be different?

Because if it has Patriot in the name, it has to be good.

Hmm. Another very short-lived anti-lib story. Can't have that.

Don't I wish. Another demerit I have to give to Obama for not doing everything to repeal this dastardly unAmerican act. I am with You on that Petrous.
