Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting

No kidding. It's not the president's fault that the networks cut in to show unrelated remarks. Calling this "frightening insensitivity" is amazing. For some people everything the president does is wrong, no matter what he does.

You could tell he really didn't want to talk about it.

Per the video it looks like he's up there giving the speech and just talking about something else. I don't think the premise of the story (or the facts) suggest that he was goofing around and caught on candid camera.

He had a scheduled event and he carried it out, with some time added to address the Fort Hood shootings. If the networks and White House staff had scheduled it properly, so they cut in for the president's remarks, no one would be making an issue of this.

Outside of the people who believe the worst of Obama at all times, does anyone really think he doesn't care about the shootings and would intentionally give short-shrift to the subject? Why? Acting like the president is secretly Boris Badenoff is a stupid way to go through life.

Then at best he has priority issues. I would have no problem if he had continued, after addressing the shooting, to include the matters he was there for. His perceived priorities put the shooting after normal political banter. Apart from the mistake of not mentioning the event for 3 minutes, the use of "shout out" by the President of the United States is an insult to the office. As was his use of the phrase "in the house" in N.O. in reference to Mayor Ray Nagin.

President Obama had plenty of notice that the events were occuring and that the networks would be airing his remarks. His choice to indulge in polical glad handing prior to announcing what was happening was a poor choice. That being said, I don't think that it was that big a deal. President Obama is primarily a politician just like almost all of those folks in Washington.

President Obama, please note that the Medal of Honor is NOT the Congressional Medal of Honor. It is simply the Medal of Honor. There is a Congressional Medal of Honor Society which was formed by Congress to Honor the recipients of the Medal of Honor.

This is a common error which has bothered me since I was informed of the difference by the first and only recipient of this Honor that I was privileged to meet.

If I'm looking at this on TV as a non-partisan (for the moment I'll try)... hear'd be my take.

First, I'd have already been aware of the shooting and most likely would have been tuning in to hear Obama talk about it and not have tuned in otherwise.

I think the magnitude of this event (the # of dead and the setting of those deaths) demanded center stage. It would have demanded a more somber tone than what was first shown. That he didn't open with the shooting would seem odd, but probably moreso in retrospect.

I believe his handlers/advisors dropped the ball on this one. And while I'm not willing to do a "gotcha" to Obama on this, I do think he demonstrated a tin ear on this one.
