Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

In defeating Conservative Doug Hoffman, Bill Owens will be the first Democrat to represent Congressional District 23 since the Civil War. Hoffman was aggressively supported by a bunch of the right wing's loudest voices - Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh.

They tried to make this race a symbol of how the Republican Party has strayed from its conservative values. Pressure from the right-wing of the party helped push the Republican candidate out of the race last week - because she just wasn't Republican enough. Some even saw this contest as a struggle for the soul of the GOP. At least the results don't suggest Sarah Palin won that fight.

it says that the named republican split the vote for the right and led to the loss. So fucking what? Nadar did the same shit, and any 3rd party candidate poses this threat.

And speaking of failure, how are Cafferty's ratings? How are CNN's ratings? LOL! Talk about failure! These guys are losers! I think more people come to the DR than watch that pathetic channel and Cafferty in particular. ROTFLMAO!

But in this case, it was the Republican that was the "spoiler." LOL!

Wow, Member sure cares a lot about TV programs.

I think he is actually rooting for a TV program, or at least he is rooting against a TV program.

How pathetic do you have to be Member to care so much about TV? Sports is one thing, but TELEVISION PROGRAMS?!?!?! Really? That's like cheering for rice over vegetables.

Get a life. You'll thank me later.

Oh yeah, the Palin, Beck Limbaugh failure.

I think the lesson here is that yes, an arm of a political party can determine a candidate, but it can't help that candidiate win an election.

The Republicans need to realize that they need moderates in order to win. If they run far right wing candidates, they are going to continue to lose.

I guess we'll have to see if they learned that lesson or not in the years to come.

#5 wrong. they lost because the Republican choice of candidate moderated. If she wasn't in the race, and the conservative candidate had the nomination, the conservative candidate would've won.

Upstate NYork Republicans proved that they would rather have a Dem Rep in a 100+ year old Repub seat than have an outsider backed by failed loony toon characters represent them.

Of course, they all fell into Obama's trap.

Yep, the pepople of NJ didn't like Obama going there 5 times telling them who they should vote for governor, lol!

The people of NJ didn't like their property tax increases.

Woulda

Coulda

Shoulda

In NY, they rejected the attempted hijacking of the party by extremists.

Get used to it.

Of course except in VA. But don't let that get in the way of your argument.

I don't know, what I think they did was show the GOP that even in one of the bluest of blue states, even a last minute entry like Hoffman could carry the party, were it not for the three man race. Is anyone here arguing that if Scozzafaza wasn't in the race that Republican's in the district wouldn't have elected Hoffman? Add both their votes together, and you've got the majority of the district.

The democrats got lucky. Moderate republicans have a choice to make. Nobody should be taking that choice for granted.

Palin, Beck and Rush were not running in the NY 23rd district!

40% plus of the country identifies itself as conservative.

Hoffman got 45% of the vote for a third party candidate.

If Scozzafava was out of the race--Hoffman would have likely won--him getting her 5%.

So when the folks in the 23rd get a primary a year from now and get to vote their choice--we'll all see how they go then--ok?

They didn't run a Far Right Winger in VA.

In fact, that candidate told the Far Right Wingers to butt the fuck out. He was smart enough to realize the Beck, Palin, and Limbaugh crowd actually HURT a republican's chances to win as was on clear display in NY 23.

And since the Conservatives called NY 23 their Turning Point it is pretty obvious that the voters are rejecting them and their BS wholeheartedly.

"This is where conservative Americans are drawing the line. New York-23. This is where we are fighting, this is where we will take a stand against both the liberal wing of the Republican Party and Obama and the Democrat Party." - Rush

They drew the line and moderates walked right over it to elect a Democrat.

You can't make this shit up. You Palin lickers are doing a GREAT job of expanding Dem rule in Congress. Keep it up!!!

-They drew the line and moderates walked right over it to elect a Democrat.

Actually, considering how very conservative is the guy who held the seat for 17 years until Obama appointed him to a Pentagon job, it looks more like the conservative Repubs preferred a Dem over a "carpetbagger" from the loony toon fringe Right.

Riiiiiiight.
And the Phillies didn't lose the world series, they just postponed their victory untill next year. If one of them posted that on their facebook page would you believe them too?

Palin, Beck and Rush were not running in the NY 23rd district!

No, but they threw their "clout" behind the right wing wacko candidate as if they were.

They failed.

Own it.

If Scozzafava was out of the race-

They dropped out of the race before the election.

Your party does not realize that the American public wants to elect centrists, not right or left wing dings.

Keep pushing your party even farther right, it will guarantee democratic majorities.

No, she didn't considering she dropped out of the race.
