Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be charged of all enrollees in the government-run plan. It's right there on line 16, page 96, section 213, under "Insurance Rating Rules." The premium will be paid into a U.S. Treasury account - and these federal funds will be used to pay for the abortion services.

Section 213 describes the process in which the Health Benefits Commissioner is to assess the monthly premiums that will be used to pay for elective abortions under the government-run plan. The Commissioner must charge at a minimum $1 per enrollee per month.

Skizziks, the issue isn't whether its will increase or decrease. The issue is paying for them.

If it's their body, their choice, why not their wallet? Why does someone else have to pay for it if they have total decision-making authority?

The issue is paying for them.

1. People who get abortions are taxpayers too, they are also paying their share.

2. There are other medical procedures that are against a variety of religions, do want those religionists to have a say in YOUR procedures ?
ie. if you need a blood transfusion to survive and a Jehova's Witness gets to decide ?

Roe v Wade:

"This means, on the other hand, that, for the period of pregnancy prior to this "compelling" point, the attending physician, in consultation with his patient, is free to determine, without regulation by the State, that, in his medical judgment, the patient's pregnancy should be terminated. If that decision is reached, the judgment may be effectuated by an abortion free of interference by the State. "

Skizziks, the medical procedure you refer to for abortion, is it medically necessary?

These are aging reviews, but the percentages IMO are no different today than yesterday.

What percentage of abortions are medically necessary?

I don't think nat'l healthcare should pay for plastic surgery that is unnecessary. It's personal choice. Why do you think religion is my reason. I quoted Roe v Wade and here are the reasons given for abortion. Not necessary and not medically neded.

Reasons for abortions
In 2000, cases of rape or incest accounted for 1% of abortions.[26] Another study, in 1998, revealed that in 1987-1988 women reported the following reasons for choosing an abortion:[27]

25.5% Want to postpone childbearing
21.3% Cannot afford a baby
14.1% Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy
12.2% Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy
10.8% Having a child will disrupt education or job
7.9% Want no (more) children
3.3% Risk to fetal health
2.8% Risk to maternal health
2.1% Other
According to a 1987 study that included specific data about late abortions (i.e. abortions "at 16 or more weeks' gestation"),[28] women reported that various reasons contributed to their having a late abortion:

71% Woman didn't recognize she was pregnant or misjudged gestation
48% Woman found it hard to make arrangements for abortion
33% Woman was afraid to tell her partner or parents
24% Woman took time to decide to have an abortion
8% Woman waited for her relationship to change
8% Someone pressured woman not to have abortion
6% Something changed after woman became pregnant
6% Woman didn't know timing is important
5% Woman didn't know she could get an abortion
2% A fetal problem was diagnosed late in pregnancy
11% Other

The new health bill will not change the number of abortions in America. Neither up nor down.

So what do all those numbers actually matter ?

Why are you getting hung up on one medical procedure ?

I'm just glad to see John Boner sober enough to post on his website.... even if what he posts is ludicrous.

Why are you getting hung up on one medical procedure ?

If you want fake ones instead of real ones, why should anyone pay for your elective surgery.

If it's not necessary, the regular insurance companies don't foot the bill. That keeps costs down.

What percentage of abortions are medically necessary?

What percentage of warts that are removed are medically necessary?

You don't have to be dying for there to be a legitimate medical reason to carry out a procedure.

Skizziks, the medical procedure you refer to for abortion, is it medically necessary?

......according to the bill, ELECTIVE abortions are not covered......

.....it will leave it up to the doctor to determine which are necessary......

.......this bill will not change the abortion issue in this country one way or another......

......according to the bill, ELECTIVE abortions are not covered......

Petrous is arguing that elective abortions aren't protected by Roe v Wade. Apparently he does not think that elective procedures are medically justifiable. Someone needs to get that man on a Death Panel!

you know Zombie....bringing abortion into the healt care debate is just tossing in another Red Herring....

......anything for the corporate whores to protect their pay masters.......

bringing abortion into the healt care debate is just tossing in another Red Herring

The "healthcare debate" so far has consisted of a hundred red herrings put into a blender and poured out onto the public forum.

......it's unfortunate but that is the level of public discourse these days......

No one can explain how any of the reasons provided for abortion are medically necessary. There are only a few that meet the definition of medical judgment. Abortion is used primarily for convenience-the reasons prove it.

If the bill states that medical judgment is still required for the funding to be allowable, I'm fine with that.

Roe v Wade says medical judgment. The numbers say that most abortions are not based on medical judgment.

These reasons below were given for the abortion.
I'd like a physician to explain the medical term they use that makes this a medical judgment issue:

Want to postpone childbearing
Cannot afford a baby
Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy
Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy
Having a child will disrupt education or job
Want no (more) children
Woman didn't recognize she was pregnant or misjudged gestation
Woman found it hard to make arrangements for abortion
Woman was afraid to tell her partner or parents
Woman took time to decide to have an abortion
Woman waited for her relationship to change
Someone pressured woman not to have abortion
Something changed after woman became pregnant
Woman didn't know timing is important
Woman didn't know she could get an abortion

No one can explain how any of the reasons provided for abortion are medically necessary.

......no one can explain why you are hung up on it......

......can you explain which open heart surgeries are necessary, and when a doctor is just padding his bill ?.......an abortion is 300 bucks and open heart surgery is 30 thousand......

.....I'm betting the best thing is to leave the determination to the doctor - patient relationship, as with all other procedures.....

.....as I said before, this bill is not going make one more, or one less, abortion in America, so move on to the next issue, because this is a fake problems.....

If the bill states that medical judgment is still required for the funding to be allowable, I'm fine with that.

......so let it go.....
