Detroit elected Mayor Bing to a full four year term, thus ending the shameful Kilpatrick era once and for all. Of the two major candidates running (there was a crazy lady running a write-in campaign) Bing seemed the more conservative. In fact, Barrow at one time claimed that Bing must be a Republican, thinking this would scare Detroiters into not voting for him. While Barrow seemed to believe that money grows on trees and that the city's problem could be fixed with wishful thinking, Bing is a business owner who understands that sometimes tough and unpopular decision have to be made.

The Republican-controled Senate in Michigan has one more Republican. Last year Democrat Mark Shower was elected to the House of Representatives and as a result a special election was held yesterday to fill the seat for the reaming 1 year (when the whole senate is up for re election). The Michigan Senate has been holding a tought line against Governor Granholm as it relates to taxes and yesterday they were rewarded for their efforts. When Republicans act like Republicans, they win elections, go figure. But when they act like cheap Democrats, they lose. There is a lesson to be learned here.

Voters in Ohio approved casinos in their state. The Detroit media has been having their panties in a bunch for the past couple of weeks over this issue because it will affect business in Detroit casinos. I don't go to casinos, but I would rather go to the Windsor casinos (accross the river in Canada) than the Detroit ones because in Windsor there is no smoking. In fact, the reason we don't have a state-wide smoking ban is due to fucking Democrats who represent the districts were the casinos are, they want an exception which is completely unacceptable. It could be possible that next year there will be a ballot question regarding smoking in Michigan. If Ohio casinos have no-smoking, I would rather go there than Canada, otherwise, Ceaser's Windsor it it, all of the fun, non of the stink.

The media is constatly making the point today that there was lower turn out in these elections, especially from young and black voters. Why would black voters not bother to show up in Virginia and New Jersey? Maybe because the people running don't look like them? They only vote for black candidates? I smell bigotry here. In Atlanta there were six black candidates running for mayor and a white candidate. Someone in Atlanta, a black person, made the suggestion that blacks should get behind the most electable black candidate or else there would be a run-off and, gasp, a white woman could be elected mayor, we can't have that, can't we?

OH, I forgot, GM won't be selling Opel and Chrysler is going down the tubes.

It used to be a few years back that Ford really sucked and Chrysler was somewhat decent, now it's the other way around, Ford is apparently imporving in quality (jury still out as far as I'm concernd) and Chrysler's quality isn't worrth shit.

Corky I think that setting your sight on Hoffman does your party a disservice...it would behoove you to analyze what happened in Virginia and NJ instead of declaring victory and ignoring those losses.

Republicans are certainly going to do the same, and some have already come to the conclusion that we need a primary to get behind our candidate in congressional races.

Just some friendly advice.

If there had been a primary in the 23rd, neither Scozzafava or Hoffman would have been the candidate and the Republicans would have won. The party leadership did this to themselves with their backroom deals and I'm glad to see the voters didn't let them get away with it.

Nuke plants in Western Europe are built according to the same standards set by the NRC for plants in the US and their reactors are leased from the same companies. And what exactly is their plan for disposal of the waste? I'd suggest we just do the same thing.

Nuclear very closely matches carbon in terms of output value.

If CO2 emmissions are SO bad, nuclear should be the stop-gap toward a viable green, renewable option.

Even as the economy is supposedly out of recession, corporations announce layoffs. Like it or not, unemployment is a lagging indicator, which if of cold confort to people trying to find new work.

Corky, who is praying for high unemployment? If you are going to say that a prediction of high unemployment that will topple Dems is praying for unemployment (you will) you would be wrong. It is a prediction that unemployment was not capped at 8% as promised and this will continue, which would hurt the party in power.

When Bush was in office, the economy was continuously talked down, and in this case, it actually IS down.

Perhaps but blocking unemployment benefits will hurt Republicans worse. Most Americans know why there is high unemployment and though they may be impatient with Obama they aren't dumb enough to think bringing back Republicans who caused their unemployment in the first place with result in new jobs. FDR was reelected and unemployment was double what it is right now. Ronald Reagan had higher unemployment than we have right now.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has agreed to a settlement worth more than $700 million over federal regulators' charges that it made unlawful payments to friends of public officials to win municipal bond business in Jefferson County, Ala.

The scandal over the county's $3.9 billion debt has pushed it to the brink of filing what would be the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. The SEC announced the settlement with JPMorgan, which canceled interest-rate swap contracts with the county worth $700 million in March.

The Wall Street bank did not admit or deny the SEC allegations in agreeing to pay a $25 million civil fine and a $50 million payment to the county, and to forfeit $647 million in termination fees it claims the county owes from the canceled swap agreements.

How about three strikes and you're dissolved for Corporations? Oh, I almost forgot they only pay paltry fines, which never discourage further wrongdoing. It takes twenty years to get a conviction that will hold in Federal Court, so Prosecutors settle. Not so with human beings that haven't got twenty years and millions to spare, when they become targets they just pile on the charges until they get a plea deal.

People ought to be more scared that their children will be indoctrinated to worship Obama than their children getting H1N1. There is a lower chance of your kid getting H1N1 at school than your children being indoctrinated. No wonder Liberals have such a disdain for people who homeschool their children, no wonder they oppose vouchers, these options would prevent them miseducating the children.

Member - Parents do a better job of indoctrinating kids than schools do, my dad driving me around with Rush on the radio was definitely more of an influence than my dumbass teachers.

It wasn't until I was 12 that I learned that people actually considered themselves liberal, I thought it was a horrible smear word.

Jury came about an hour ago. Split verdict. Instead of Life Without Parole (if special circumstances had been found true) or 75 years to life(if separate special allegations had been found true), the jury split the proverbial baby so that he now only gets 25 to life. Still a shitload of time. But he is currently only 25 years old so has some hope of getting out someday.

Yeah. But given that he confessed repeatedly, this is hardly a surprise. If anything, the fact that all the special circumstances and special allegations were not found to be true, in a way it is somewhat of a victory.

Its a a caterpillar.

Its green.

Its 4 inches long.

It's diameter is 1.5 inches.

Its fucking huge.

Its segmented---like a green Michelin Man.

It has small but distinct yellow dots on its lateral---one on each segment.

Its got yellow "horns", and what looks like a fucking beak.

I'm trying to figure out where to report spotting the rare moth (Catocala amestris) I did. I'm not surprised it's endangered, though. Not only is it dayglow orange under the wings, but it tried to commit suicide to my orb weavers several times a night.

It's too bad I didn't catch the guy when he was a caterpillar. They look science fiction esque. Long white/yellow ooze with black vertical stripes and bright yellow splotches.
