Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

On Monday night's Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert announced that he will ask his loyal fans to donate money to the U.S. Speedskating team, whose largest commercial cash sponsor, Dutch bank DSB, just went belly-up. (Colbert snarkily referred to DSB as "Deposit Savings in Bong.") In exchange for the publicity and potential revenue, Colbert Nation logos will be stitched onto the suits of both long-track and short-track skaters during World Cup competitions before the Olympics.

A better question would be: Is it worth saving? Who caes.

The speed skating team has produced alot of medals over the years. Good on Colbert! Great, cheap advertising, as well. Especially since his "followers" are doing the actual cash contributing.

Steven Colbert is a liberal loon with the understanding of the realities of the US at the level of a squashed pumpkin. But he's also hilarious, and occasionally hits a home run. This is one such time. It's great to see someone step up like this. Go Steven, and Go US!!

(I only make the political comment due to the Colbert Nation angle)

Level?

Maybe you should check out some "fox news"

Level?

Maybe you should check out some "fox news"

Nice substance.

Everybody is so hot on this Colbert feller. That is ok with me, but maybe you should bear something in mind. He probably is not AS funny or talented as you think. Just think about it for a moment. He has virtually a whole army of people (writers, producers, videographers, etc, etc) working thier asses off to make him funny. I bet if he got up on stage at a comedy club, he would be like most comedians, not very funny.

It is kinda like the current crop of no talent singers. They dress them up real nice, add in neato special effects, have real great back up music, very talented dancers, and the crowd goes nuts for the PHONY STAR lipsynching their prerecorded crap. COLBERT IS JUST A SHELL OF WHAT YOU LIBS ACTUALLY THINK OF HIM.

"He has virtually a whole army of people (writers, producers, videographers, etc, etc) working thier asses off to make him funny."

Colbert doesn't write a half-hour show of new comedy four times a week?!? What are you going to tell us next...he doesn't do his own graphics, or man the cameras either?!?

I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!!!

I think writing jokes would be much easier than delivering them effectively. Any good talking heads confidence in front of a crowd is something I admire and the ability to deliver a good joke and use timing while reading a cue card is something to be admired.

You hit the nail on the head. When you take the pros like Jay Leno and others, they can take the simplest joke and just through masterful comedic timing (and physical expression) get you laughing.

Meanwhile, there are other comedian wannabees who, no matter how funny their comedy material (usually always written by others), just bomb on the delivery.

With real comedy, you either have it or you don't.

The point I was trying to make is Colbert only is soo funny (to mainly biased libs) because of the EXTREME levels of support he has. The average comedian has nowhere near the staffing that Colbert has. Also the audience is going to chuckle any time Colbert does his canned neocon/Bush/palin/anything republican crap, because he is singing to the choir. You libs laugh extra hard no matter what this mediocre talent does.

"The average comedian has nowhere near the staffing that Colbert has."

No shit? A one-man comedy show on TV responsible for 2 hours of product a week has more staff than the average comedian?

Stop! I can't deal with reality like that!!! I was soooooo convinced he was doing it all by himself!!!!

Steven Colbert is a liberal loon with the understanding of the realities of the US at the level of a squashed pumpkin.

I don't think so.

Now, he's a liberal for sure. Loony? Not so much. Also, his and his writer's understanding of "the realities of the US" are what affords him the ability to be hilarious. But without any skill in delivery or showmanship, most of the jokes would fall flat.

I don't think that guy is smart enough to understand the snark, Danforth. Best to just look in the opposite direction as you blow past him in the crowd.

Don't make eye contact.

Way to stay level headed.

Yeah, because that is what this site is all about...

EXTREME?

Wot? Is stand up comedy now an official event at the X-games or something?

Surprised you didn't say "radical" there.

The only reason Colbert isn't soo funny to rtards like yerself is because fer the most part they aren't bright enough or informed enuff to get the joke.

K?

See: Dumbya listening to Colbert at the WH press dinner if you don't believe Spud.

Steven Colbert is a liberal loon with the understanding of the realities of the US at the level of a squashed pumpkin.

Colbert's understanding of the realities of the US is about 100 times deeper than that of Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly, Malkin, Coulter, Rush and Savage combined.

Not that that's particularly hard to do or anything just saying.

Be Well.

/Like a bad penny always turning up
stage left.

Stephen Colbert is God.
