Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

For years, scientists thought the fearsome sharks wandered the sea at random. We were wrong. Pacific white sharks spend months near the northern and central California coast between August and February foraging among elephant seals, sea lions and other prey, according to a new study

No one has ever called me great before..THANKS!

I just watched footage of that girl that was attacked by a Great White 300 miles off the shores of Chile while swimming from some research vessel she was working on at the time.

There were a bunch of them in the water at the time, and a guy on the boat with a video camera.

The vid is all over youtube as well. Scary shit.
It happened on March 23, 1994 if anyone wants to watch the vid.

Anyway, I'm sure the news that they hang close to shore is comforting to many...Yikes.

It is a tough economy for the world, including the great white shark...gotta eat what ya can, where you can get it....

I'm sick and tired of all these Rush Limbaugh stories.

This is about sharks, not whales. One's a fish, the other's an, alleged, mammal.

They wanted to be closer to the Great Blacks...so Obama's fault.

"Great Whites Stay Near Shore"

Lesser whites move to the flyover states.

I have to say this is sort of a no brainer. I've been kind of a shark buff since I was a kid. It does confirm I guess what I thought I knew all along. They have known the sharks congregate in those areas for years and they have also known they migrate. Many to the Hawaiian islands (known for years). The Cafe part is something new to me. BUT for years they have known these sharks patrolled close to shore especially where where there were colonies of sea going mammals. These are massive beast that require a regular large top notch food source. Where do you find that? These are not Makos hunting tuna and other fast moving fish. They are Great Whites hunting seals, sea lions and such. The greatest concentrations of food period in the ocean are by far near shore...

Ya that Mid-Ocean Shark attack was something else. I seen a show that spent half the time examining it. They had the victim on it. At least she survived. I thought it was farther off the coast then 300 miles for some reason.

I'll buy this story. This particular "average" white stays close to shore too... can't find boobies, beer and bourbon in the deep blue...

Great whites follow the food, mostly seals and sea lions. They have no boundaries. Hawaii has only a few monk seals left so we rarely ever see a great white in these waters, most are tiger or hammerhead sharks. There is however a recent and fast growing influx of fat white flying sharks easily identified by their garishly colored trunks and bone white appendages. It has been observed that this particular breed of shark tend to congregate in beach areas, particularly where there is a McDonalds, a 7-11 and a Walmart in the same area.

As long as they don't have pyrotechnic shows the surfers should be fine..

In copying Colbert's "Craziest Fucking Thing I Ever Heard" some German has been making movies in which he persistently gets close to these Great Whites and actually fondles some of them. His version of a cosmic experience on film. He interprets their individual behaviors to determine which one's he'll pet and which he stays away from. You gotta wonder how long he'll last.

All the fatass animals they like to eat live on the shore and we couldn't figure this out sooner?

This was so obvious: main source food is mamals, which are hanging out close to shore. Why would the shark leave a food area and venture in the ocean where its chance of running into food is diminished?
It does not make sense, and if there's one thing we know about GWS is that it always makes sense. This is why they are so successful.
Now you mark my words: with the overabundance of food off of NoCal coast, the breeding season is going to be very successful and we will see a lot more of them next year.

Not if McDonalds has anything to do with it. All they have to do is put their fillet o' fish on sale and the sharks will be an endangered species too.

Sucks for the Surfers! My board has a checkered bottom and my wetsuit is striped!

Is this the aquatic version of a "cougar"???

Hopefully they start going after some of those VEGAN CALIFORNIATARDS.

Bush in Maine, Kennedy clan in Hyannis? Hardly what I call "great whites."

Yes, foraging on seal, sea lions...surfers...and anything else those eating machines can get in their jaws. I tell my kids they are the "trash collectors" of the ocean. We need them; they do their jobs well.

Have you seen this movie? It's based on the 1916 Great White shark attacks in NJ but it takes place in NY in the film. It's called Shore Thing.
I put the link below.
