Women Forced to Carry We-Stole Signs

In a deal to avoid jail time, a 56-year-old Pennsylvania woman and her 35-year-old daughter were forced to carry signs revealing their theft from a nine-year-old girl. Evelyn Border and Tina Griekspoor took a girl's gift card at Wal-Mart. Their signs read: "I stole from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday! Don't steal or this could happen to you!"

We need more "pillorying" judges. This is a punishment that doesn't hurt anyone financially or keep them from their jobs, both which make it more likely the petty crime will be repeated

Watch, though. The ACLU is going to object.

this isnt the first time, there is a judge somewhere else in the south (possibly texas? he had a southern accent) who routinely sets peoples punishment as public humiliation.

Its entertaining, but from what the people who were remanded to the corner of a busy intersection under observation of a court proctor, they wouldnt have a problem violating again if it was something they felt like doing.

Pilory has no real incentive against offending without the time honored tradition of hurling rotten vegetables and paving stones at them while they are helpless in the stocks.

This was a common pastime in the early 1800's in London.
