Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

For the past decade a large coterie of pundits, prognosticators and their media camp followers have insisted that growth in America would be concentrated in places hip and cool, largely the bluish regions of the country. This narrative, which has not changed much over the past decade, is misleading and largely misstated. Net migration, both before and after the Great Recession, according to analysis by the Praxis Strategy Group, has continued to be strongest to the predominately red states of the South and Intermountain West.

I think their blueness will travel with them as they do to red states to do the management functions that the yahoos can't do.

Middle Class Exodus From Blue States

I'm saying my adios to the blue State of California for numerous reasons.

But part of my ♥ will always be there.

Where to now Chris?

Another example of the stereotyping and prejudice ingrained in many liberals.

"We don't care how you did it up north"

Reminds me of a common bumper sticker in Texas during the '80s.

Or the one:

[heart] NY?

Take I-30 E

Also from the '80s Texas bumper adornment:

Foat Wuth, I luv yew

During the oil bust, after the oil boom:

One More Chance, God, I Promise I Won't Piss It Away This Time

Leaving New Jersey?? I am shocked!
Our election today offers voters the yuppie socialist Corzine (I like his beard. Makes it feel like an ass) and the obese socialism-lite Bushie Christie. Why would anyone want to leave a state where the monopoly parties offer such rotten choices?
The "Road to Serfdom" is a prophetic book.

perhaps being one of, if not the highest taxed people in the country...you know for starters

and besides..its NEW JERSEY........lol

actually....we hear all about how its sucha blue state and its heavily taxed..
gee...go figure...

"For the past decade a large coterie of pundits, prognosticators and their media camp followers have insisted that growth in America would be concentrated in places hip and cool, largely the bluish regions of the country."

That's odd because everything that I have read over that time period has pointed to Americans moving to more southern and western states. I do not recall seeing a single article talking about more people moving to the N.E or upper Midwest.

Middle Class Exodus From Blue States

This article just oozes partisanship. It sets up straw-man 'narratives' while forwarding it's own narratives of the 'left-wing media' and playing the association game; tying a troubling statistic from Chicago to President Obama. It tries to conflate the very simple concept of supply and demand to the failed pillars of right wing lunacy: deregulation and tax cuts. The truth is simpler: It's all about cost of living. Red states, which more closely resemble the third-world countries that companies like to out-source jobs to, have a lower cost of living. This lower cost of living is because nobody wants to live there. This, ironically, is mostly due to said right wing policies. This is really a story about the decline of the American standard of living and the effects of the great recession (ironically, again, brought to us by right-wing ideology). A company opening it's doors in butt-fuck Arkansas during good economic times isn't going to be able to attract the best employees. But when the unemployment is as high as it is now, people will bite the bullet and go there just to make a living.

Where to now Chris?

* * *

Or, maybe it's because only pretentious douchebags from New York or LA can be suckered into thinking that an 800-square foot apartment with toilet down the hall for $2250 a month is a good deal.

Riiight...

LOL!

It's even better considering the first line, complaining about "partisanship."

The stupid is strong in this one.

The stupid is strong in this one.

No, not at all. The comparison of red states to the 3rd world is perfectly valid historically. Corporations moved operations from northern states to "right-to-work" southern red states to find cheaper labor, sometimes combined with tax concessions.

And then they moved overseas or across the border for the same reasons. Nothing surprising about that either. Capitalists try to maximize profits by reducing costs, including the costs of labor.

Yes. And it's strange how an article about a mass migration of the middle class from overtaxed, overpriced blue states to red ones prompts the stupid notion that "nobody wants to live there."

Stupid is as stupid does. Hope you enjoy the potholes, the noise, the crime, the taxes, and the stratospheric cost of living, just so you can impress your friends with a trendy zip code.

And it's strange how an article about a mass migration of the middle class from overtaxed, overpriced blue states to red ones prompts the stupid notion that "nobody wants to live there."

Who said that? There are tons of idiots that want to live in retarded red states. 50% percent of Americans have below average IQ. They have to live somewhere.

You're projecting valid points onto Darth's post, which is fine, but his own words about how much the states resemble third world countries (aside from the reasons corporations move there), and the combination of an arrogant tone toward red states after a whine about partisanship elicited the remark you quote, not the point you're making for him.

There are tons of idiots that want to live in retarded red states...They have to live somewhere.

Sorry, Christine. I'm a heart breaker.

All you yankees just keep your ass up north, and out west.

The south is beautiful and we don't want you coming down here, fuckin' it up. We like our contradictions just the way they are. And we don't want you coming down here saying shit like, 'what's up with all the trailer parks?', when in reality it is because the only people you know lives in a trailer park.

BTW, the south invented genteel. Try to bear that in mind when you come down or we'll beat the shit out of you.

"All you yankees just keep your ass up north, and out west"

Hate to tell ya but I wouldn't move down south for nothing! Nor out west.

You can keep it.

Yea, like people are really rushing to get into the #3 state in unemployment and hovers vicariously on bankrupty. LOL Don't worry, your pot is safe, dull.

I feel sorry for people who don't live in California. Here's a pic I took this morning of my mistress...

Hate to tell ya but I wouldn't move down south for nothing!

What if I told you I don't even own a winter coat or snow shovel (what does a snow shovel look like, anyway?)

My own take on this. I was thinking either far southwest (Florida) or far northwest (Washington). Both have advantages and disadvantages. I have people in both areas I am looking at, and both have reasonable tax advantages for someone like myself. Washington's cost of living is higher, but has a top-notch public transportation system, which has its own advantages, obviously. Florida's c-o-l is lower, but the transportation options are more limited (in my experience). I was admittedly thinking that the weather might become an issue (I don't do well with extreme heat, and rain doesn't bother me as much as it does some), but in all honesty I can acclimate in either case. In my experience, Washington has more life for me, but Florida has less cost for me. So it comes down to, money or life?

Either way, as long as I get out of PA, it's an improvement.

Cool, man. Just stay away from California, ok?

Negative. I have interests in the greater california area. The parts of the state that humans haven't already fucked up are quite beautiful and I enjoy visiting.

But I wouldn't want to live there.

I feel sorry for people who don't live in California

Don't. We have jobs

"What if I told you I don't even own a winter coat or snow shovel (what does a snow shovel look like, anyway?)"

All the more reason not to move to TX...lol.

I love all four seasons.

We have a blast in the snow!!!

And hot cocoa with mini marshmallows doesn't quite hit the spot when its 107 degrees outside!! : )

"I feel sorry for people who don't live in California"

I feel sorry for those who do!!

LOL

"Either way, as long as I get out of PA, it's an improvement."

If you don't mind saying here, where at in PA?

I live in PA too.

I actually like it!!

We have no regrets about our exodus from californistan 10 years ago.

California is a beautiful state to be sure, lipz. But to modify an old saying, "The only thing wrong with California is that it is full of Californians." And I would add the earthquakes distract greatly from its beauty. I was in San Jose on October 17, 1989. It literally took me weeks to recover from that. As an ET, the ground underneath me moving was as unsettling as reading a difference of electrical potential between ground and ground.

#12 | Posted by CalifChris - move to Arkansas and we will be able to bicker in person!

That's why god made cold beer or iced tea for the more genteel. LOL

I know you do, Lisa, that's another reason I want to leave. (COMPLETE SARCASM)

All seriousness, I'm in Reading. The blackhead on the pimple on the ass of the world. I've looked around, and though most of my family is here, I have to go. My brain is no longer stimulated here at all. And that's suicide for one like myself.

"That's why god made cold beer or iced tea for the more genteel. LOL"

You do realize we actually DO have a summer here where we can enjoy those too, right??

LOL

Goatman, Lipzoidial: Genteel? You do realize I am laughing heartily at that, yes?

Fortunately, dumbshit Texan tards don't immigrate here.

p.s. And if any you Texans are thinking about moving to California, you're not welcome. Go to Oklahoma. We don't need any more retards.

OH go ahead, Letus....I have a sense of humor you know!!!

Just be careful....I may come back. : )

And if any you Texans are thinking about moving to California

Yea, all the Texans I know are saying, "Gee, I think I'll quit my job and move to California". *snark off*

Anyone need more proof that excessive pot usage really fucks up a person's reasoning capabilities? LOL

Keep it up, dull. You are very amusing.

Just stay away from California, ok?

Stay away from Nevada too nothing here but desert, rattlesnakes, coyotes and an extreme lack of water. And the casinos are legalized larceny.

Really please stay away we don't want you!!!!

We don't need any more retards. [in California]

You mean 36,756,878 aren't enough?

I had considered California and Texas at one time actually. Keeping in mind I didn't like I lived there in '79 to '82, but I was a kid then. But then I "met" Nullifidian and Jak se Mao (formerly Pinche Mao). I snapped out of it right quick.

Of course, he doesn't mean to but he does. : )

I didn't until you told me.

And the sad thing is, Goat, I still am.

And the sad thing is, Goat, I still am.

What? Laughing? Never apologize for that. The world needs more people who can laugh.

And laughing at other people is so much fun too.

Sorry, I know, now I'm just being an asshole. But it's so damned easy! Keeping in mind I have a considerable disdain for humans in general.

I find it amusing that dumbasses like GoAtBoOb have nothing but "you're a pot head" attacks on someone who has been quite open in their advocacy of cannabis legalization. It just shows you what a reactionary little dipshit Mr. NonPartisan is.

When you pretend that your advocacy of legal pot is the sole point considered, you clearly reinforce my point, not yours.

^GoatbOob pretends to have a point. Some people are just plain stupid. And then there are others, like GoatbOoB, who are uber-stupid. There's really no point in wasting time arguing with him.

better then ar kansas.

The mountains and hills are beautiful in northern arkansas. I've not seen anything to compare in CT, but maybe I haven't been to the right places in that state.

I've been to or through nearly every state west of the Mississippi, including Alaska, and a few east of it and northwest Arkansas is by far one of the most beautiful of those states.

Hmmm....let's see.....

Lower personal taxes vs. higher personal taxes
Lower property taxes vs. higher property taxes
Lower business taxes vs. higher business taxes
Right to work labor vs. mandatory union labor
Fewer business regulations vs. more bus. regulations
A state budget on the precipice (and the bills will come due) vs. a state with a balanced budget AND a rainy day fund

This exodous was totally predictable and it pisses Moneywar off to no end.

"I've not seen anything to compare in CT"

goat... ct isn't about mountains. though we have hills they claim are mountains.

and they are gorgeous in the fall.

nothing in arkansas compares to ct's foliage in autumn.

but ct > ak for reasons other then raw beauty.

No doubt the beauty of the midwest is unrivaled.
(well it was nicer before the dust bowl)

I don't want to be around religious fundamentalists... regardless of religion...

nanc is in arkansas... thus i am a-scurred of it.

"This exodous was totally predictable "

in connecticut, we hated the population boom of recently rich new york bankers the last 10-12 years.

i hope they all move to florida. ;)

my favorite thing about small town ct is the lack of franchise establishments.

our restaurants are amazing and one of a kind.

#79 - yeah, but are grits on the menus
?!?

Contrary to your preconceived ideas about me, I am a very good neighbor and have acquaintances and friends from all political parties. Oh sure, some have gone into hiding...

maybe nanc.

all i know is your dr. personality

.. and some places do have grits on the menu...

we even have grits here in nyc at work in the credit suisse cafeteria

do you have balsamic glazed calamari on the menu?

I'm sure they do in the bigger towns - my husband and son are fans of all things calamari. I LOVE GRITS! grits and eggs - grits and gravy - grits and butter with cayenne - grits for breakfast, lunch and supper...but only eat them once every week or two.

Sometimes, late at night, I think that it would be great to get on the phone and order a wide variety of food to be delivered.

Most of the time I enjoy the fact that I can be at my office in 15 minutes. 5 additional minutes takes my to the city and/or county offices right down town.

We don't have Major League sports here in town but they exist within a 3 hour drive in 2 directions.

10 minutes drive to the north, east, or west folks have small farms and horses. Lakes abound.

I have a dozen beautiful Maple trees in my yard in addition to a huge Blue Spruce. Deer, wild turkey, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, ground hogs, and myriad birds frequent my yard.

Clerks in business places actually smile at you when you stop in.

It is wonderful to live in the red portion of a mostly blue state.

Hidden Valley Ranch Bombed By Balsamic ExtremistsMay 30, 2001 | Issue 3720

HIDDEN VALLEY, CAA radical Balsamic fundamentalist group detonated an estimated 800 pounds of TNT at the Hidden Valley Ranch compound Monday, killing 11 and injuring dozens more. "Let no salad again be foully tainted by the corrupt regime of Hidden Valley," said Martin Pulaski, leader of the Nation Of Balsam, in a statement claiming responsibility for the deadly attack. "We shall not rest until every salad's flavor is enhanced by a light and tangy vinaigrette, not buried in a shameful avalanche of buttermilk."

I know you are, until you realize again that you live in Reading, pa. I'm with you though on 'living in a way that doesn't stimulate you is like slow suicide'. It's not so much about reading, pa or bumfuck, alabama or california or florida.

It's about the culture of the particular area you live in. Maybe you could find a more stimulating place in PA? maybe within driving distance of the extended family but too far away to discourage droppin'-by?

If you want a complete change of scenery, and weather, I would recommend (depending on what you want) places like Raliegh, NC, Greenville SC, Nashville, Huntsville AL (my personal favorite), SA TX, Houston, Austin (another favorite), Mobile, AL, places like that. They are all old south cities that now also have huge professional populations.

"Huntsville AL (my personal favorite)"

Thumbs up to "Tim's Cajun Kitchen"

"Mobile, AL"

Stay away, Felix's Fish Camp is all our's. Go Jags!

Lip, to the cities you mentioned, I have to tell you, I have little use for the old south, and less use for the people that live there. Having visited a couple three such cities, as soon as people find out I'm from Yankee territory, they either get mean as hell or sappy, phony as hell polite. I didn't get that in Saint Petersburg, which I found a pleasant surprise. The food's good down there, too, and there's legal card rooms I can go play some poker if I feel the urge to do so. King County, Washington is much the same, and with weather I can probably live with better.

I may well be picking nits, but what the hell, I'm likely stuck here for the rest of my life anyway, due to poor decisions in my youth, plans that never seem to get very far because of lack of funding due to those same decisions (my debt level is far too high, and every time I seem to get ahead, something goes horribly wrong), and inertia. I don't like it, but I am used to it. Call me institutionalized (having just watched The Shawshank Redemption recently, the term seems appropriate).

And I started laughing again when I went back and read that claim about "genteel". Genteel my ass, ain't no single one of us in here genteel. Not without being phony as hell about it.

Although, I did like Savannah, I have to admit. Went down there for a few days for my... 36th birthday IIRC. Even met Paula Deen at her restaurant there. And I do like her work. If you end up going there I suggest the steak and tomato pie.
