Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

An adviser to the government has resigned in protest at the home secretary's sacking of his chief drugs adviser, Prof David Nutt.

Dr Les King quit the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD), saying Home Secretary Alan Johnson had denied Prof Nutt's "freedom of expression".

Prof Nutt was sacked after saying cannabis is less harmful than alcohol or nicotine.

He said the drug had been upgraded to Class B against scientific evidence.

The reclassification had been for political reasons and "on the whim of the prime minister", Prof Nutt claimed.

After being sacked via e-mail by Mr Johnson, Prof Nutt predicted there would be resignations from the government advisory body that he headed.

"Marijuana vs Tobacco: Consider the Facts"

"smoking marijuana poses several health risks, including:

* Impairment of thinking, problem-solving skills and memory
* Reduced balance and coordination
* Increased risk of heart attack
* Heightened risk of chronic cough and respiratory infections
* Potential for hallucinations and withdrawal symptoms

A number of studies have shown an association between chronic marijuana use and increased rates of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and schizophrenia. It not clear whether marijuana use causes mental problems, exacerbates them, or is used in attempt to self-medicate symptoms already in existence. Chronic marijuana use, especially in a very young person, may also be a marker of risk for mental illnesses, including addiction, stemming from genetic or environmental vulnerabilities, such as early exposure to stress or violence.

Perhaps most alarming is the documented adverse effects marijuana has on health:

* The Heart. One study found that the risk of heart attack more than quadruples in the first hour after smoking marijuana. This might be from marijuana's effects on blood pressure and heart rate (it increases both) and reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of blood.
* The Lungs. Marijuana smokers can have many of the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illness, a heightened risk of lung infections, and a greater tendency toward obstructed airways. Numerous studies have shown marijuana smoke to contain carcinogens and to be an irritant to the lungs. In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke. Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which further increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke.
* Head and Neck. Smoking marijuana has been linked with an increased risk of head and neck cancers. Several case reports have found an unexpectedly high number of marijuana users among persons with cancers of the head and neck region, including the mouth, tongue, throat, and larynx.

The bottom line: The risks of using marijuana far outweigh the benefits."

No problem, dumbass. Just vaporize. Or make brownies.

I'll bet null has a black light poster in his bedroom with a big marijuana leaf. He also has a few grossly undersized Tshirts with the NORML logo and/or marijuana leaf that his pot-belly hangs out of when he wears them. He also still subscribes to High Times (that one wall still isn't quite covered with the centerfolds)

There's nothing wrong with the occaisional toker, but when pot occupies your entire life, there's something wrong. I'm glad I outgrew all that 30 years ago and moved on.

No wonder California, once one of the most powerful economies in the world, is now #3 in unemployment amongst the states and a couple of points above junk bond status in its credit rating if dullifidian is a representative of the people there.

Looks like GoatboOb is back, and his first post is an attack on me. lol. I own that dumbass.

I own that dumbass.

Something only a stoner would brag about. LOL

Too bad you don't own a life

How does a vaporizer work, Null, and how much are they? Are sales tracked by the government yet?

Like you do. Your life is your job and the retort.

"How does a vaporizer work, Null, and how much are they? Are sales tracked by the government yet?"

I doubt that even the idiots at the DEA would track vaporizer sales. As to price, it ranges from about $50 to $500 for a top of the line, Volcano vape. For portability, a Vaporgenie for $50 is great, though it's kind of a hybrid vaporizer.

Hmm...never tried that shiat...never even heard of it, to be honest. Does it make crappy weed more "palatable"? We have plenty of crappy weed around theses parts. I have a big-assed brass hookah that I bought from a pawn shop when I was 17 yrs old. 31 yrs ago... It's dismantled and fairly well hidden, as I'd probably do prison time for simply owning it...

A Vaporizer reduces the smoke by-products, but it can't increase the THC level of the dirt weed you get. Sorry, man.

The vaporgenie sucks, or at least the one I had did. Ok I still have it but never use it.

I have used an evolutions vape and it was far superior to any other way of smoking.

"The vaporgenie sucks, or at least the one I had did. Ok I still have it but never use it."

It has a steep learning curve. I burnt a lot of bowls before I got the hang of it. But once you do get the technique down, it's a great little portable vape. Very useful for situations where smoke/skunky smell could be problematic.

If a drug is being abused--you can have problems--same as alcohol or nicotine.

As for medicinal pot--there are benefits to alleviate some other ailment that counters the pot usage.

And under medicinal purposes there is not the abuse of smoking the stuff every day on the hour. There may be some medicinal abuse with some people but not likely or few and far between.

Murph...it could be I've had problems with getting high, simply because I got high

Huh?

"And under medicinal purposes there is not the abuse of smoking the stuff every day on the hour. There may be some medicinal abuse with some people but not likely or few and far between."

What?

You oughta lay off the gin and soda, Murphy.

"gin and soda"

It's Scotch & soda or gin & tonic.

Of course we are discussing McAnkles' drinking habits.

"It's Scotch & soda or gin & tonic."

Gin & soda (with a lime garnish) is a gin rickey.

"It's Scotch & soda or gin & tonic."

Thanks for the correction, Zat. I thought there was something wrong about that... :)

"I thought there was something wrong about that... :)"

Don't use mixers and the problem is solved.

Gin on ice or in a dry, dry, dry ("A veritable dust bowl of a Martini.") Martini and Scotch neat.

"Gin on ice or in a dry, dry, dry ("A veritable dust bowl of a Martini.") Martini and Scotch neat."

Sounds almost as good as a bowl of sour diesel sprinkled with some OG kief and purple erkle hash.

Gin on ice or in a dry, dry, dry ("A veritable dust bowl of a Martini.")

Just let the glass see the vermouth. I had a lady order one that way from me once. Had another order one where I poured in the vermouth swirled the glass and poured it out.

My question why even order a martini? Just order a gin and tonic with the tonic on the side it cost about a buck less where I worked.

Oh and Null part of the reason I quit trying to use the vaporgenie was I got a very nice bubbler that fits in my pocket so the portability was resolved and I got tired of fidiling with the vaporpipe. Plus I only smoke at home so no worries about the smell.

Yeah, Murph! Switch over to Tanqueray and Schweppes tonic. Much, much better.
