Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The White House has begun releasing the names of some visitors, the first time such information has been made available to the public. But despite making a claim of "transparency like you've never seen before," the Obama administration is arguing that the records are not public records subject to the Freedom of Information Act and has only released a small number of names.

And even the short list he did release showed lobbyists, CEOs, etc. So much for "change."

How does "Obama names 110 White House visitors" become "Obama hides White House visitor lists"? No prior president has released a visitor list before.

How does "Obama names 110 White House visitors" become "Obama hides White House visitor lists"?

Try reading the article. Do I have to post it again?

Despite the accompanying White House claim of "transparency like you've never seen before," the Obama White House continues to take the same legal position as the Bush White House, arguing that the records are not public records subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Only limited "voluntary releases" are being made to settle a lawsuit filed by an advocacy group, though a federal judge has twice ruled that all the visitor logs are public.
And right under the headline you like, it says "Most guests still hidden."

Reading. It's fundamental.

And since Obama has claimed he would make all visitor logs public, a tiny limited release should not be enough to satisfy you. But apparently it is.

Yes it is, and that lame comeback makes you look like a fool.
This WH did something that none before it has, the exact definition of change no matter how much you bleat.

Proz - by that logic President Obama could order a couple of inmates at Gitmo to not be tortured anymore, but without changing the rules regarding torture (and allowing others to be tortured), its only a small step in the right direction.

I'm playing devils advocate here, this is a good thing the President is doing.

And since Obama has claimed he would make all visitor logs public, a tiny limited release should not be enough to satisfy you. But apparently it is.

Show me where Obama said he'd make all visitor logs public.

you know what would be useful?

A searchable database of every speech that a politician has ever given.

That would solve alot of these after the fact he said she saids.

Show me where Obama said he'd make all visitor logs public.

Aside from a small group of appointments that cannot be disclosed because of national security imperatives or their necessarily confidential nature (such as a visit by a possible Supreme Court nominee), the record of every visitor who comes to the White House for an appointment, a tour, or to conduct business will be released.

Thanks for the link. I think you are judging them too quickly. This first release of visitor information is not necessarily the full plan. If this is all they're going to do, then yes they have broken the promise. But this is just the first step in doing something the president has never done before. If done right, it is a great policy that future presidents will be compelled to follow.

Leave it to Rcade to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

I'd give it three months before full lists are disclosed.

does obama ever work? all he does is play bball and golf, have dinner parties, dates, and visitors at the WH.

what about closing gitmo and getting out of Iraq and Afgan.?

you Obama voters must be disappointed.

Obama's administration is beginning to look a whole lot like the last one.

Is a partial visitor list anything like a partial birth abortion? Cuz I bet they have a lot in common.

No way!! Obama met with CEO's? That's outrageous! Joe's panties are all wound up now.

Pretty weak, Munty. I hope you're hung over.

Every day that goes by it seems that I regret voting for Obama a little more. I am so tired of the apologists saying, "just wait and see what the end game is" So far it seems to be more of the same. Don't get me wrong, on a lot of issues this WH is astronomically better than the previous, but in too many instances, it is business as usual.
It is clearly "us" (even the ones I disagree with and disagree with me) against "them". "Them" being the ones that get to keep their suck-ass jobs as politicians only when they tow the big-business donors line. Democrats and Republicans in power know that it is in their best interest to keep us fighting each other over trivial bullshit.

"Governments don't control things. A government can't control the economy without controlling people."
-----Ronald Reagan-----

#17---people are finally catching on to how the game is played--the folks that prop up the repubs are the same that back the dems--- they play the populist card when people finally get angry and then put a guy with a sweety smile out front and center to respond with the right language conning the easily swayed. Then a few insignificant superficial moves are made hoping that the masses will still be gullible enough to not recognize any major change hasn't happened.

At least Obama is not meeting with Jack Abramoff ever other payday.

Or getting his nuts fondled by Jeff Gannon, Bush's play thang!

We should know the name of every visitor to our house, just as we should know the name of every individual / company who is listed in the US Treasury check register.

Obama is a Criminal Scum Bag!!!

"Promises with qualification"....do not ever expect this guy to follow up with anything that he says in total or unless really pushed....same old politics in Washington.... how many times did he campaign to imply that lobbyists would have no voice in his administation???? what a joke..!!!
but the groupies that continue to hang on to his BS will fight for him forever, as they do not get it any better than he has shown...!!!

OK...1)so EVERY BILL will be posted for days before signing...2)We will remove all lobbyist..3)The cleanest congress ever. 4)Nothing behind closed doors - the meetings on healthcare will be televised on CSPAN. 5)The full list of Whitehouse attendees will be posted...

EXCEPT - 1) when we do not want you to actually know what is in the bills, 2) when the Lobbists work for the administration - or give it massive donations to the DNC 3) when we need Rangel's vote to get the bill out of comittee 4)when we close the door and do not even let OTHER Senators into the room while we completely alter and rewrite the legislation that was passed out of comittee 5) Except when we don't want you to know because it will show who is REALLY pulling the strings

Yep ..HOPE and CHANGE.

I HOPE WE CAN CHANGE THESE COMMUNISTIC CRIMINALS OUT in 2010....the change really starts tomorrow.

Tomorrow's going to change a 20% GOP ID? Hardly. By the way, the election's Tuesday.

You got your ass handed to you and offer up this lame apology? You libs have got to get Bush out of your heads and move on.org. Wake up and smell the coffee. This guy is not who you elected. What a fucking apologist you are. Keep this up, and you and the rest of the libs on this site will have no ground to stand on in debating the bushies and their apologies.

what about closing gitmo and getting out of Iraq and Afgan.?

Umm, gitmo is still going to be closed which will make the righties whine, just as they whine because its not closed. The Iraq withdrawal has been set, but may actually be bumped up by maliki and Obama didn't say he was leaving afghanistan, just trying to fix Bush's fuck-ups. See for example the 20,000 troops the generals on the ground wanted, but Bush refused to send.

northguy...."Umm" open government means showing ALL of the guests of the white house, gitmo was obamas first priority, iraq was next...never mind dude, you go ahead and deflect all of the obama failures to bush
