Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"I think this would be a good time for a beer," Franklin D. Roosevelt said upon signing a bill that made 3.2-percent lager legal again, some months ahead of the full repeal of Prohibition. I hope Barack Obama will come up with some comparably witty remarks as he presides over the dismantling of our contemporary forms of prohibitionlaws that prevent gay marriage, restrict cannabis as a Schedule I Controlled Substance, and ban travel to Cuba. "You may now kiss the groom," perhaps, ora version of the comment he once made about smoking pot"I inhaledthat was the point."

Doc comes out of the closet on the DR?

"Can the GOP Accept the End of Prohibition?"

What else have they got beyond finger waggling, moralistic lecturing, and the assumption that they represent The Truth? Those are critical ingredients in creating the prohibitionist's souffle, which will (to be sure) rise...only to collapse on itself soon thereafter.

Care to explain what you're yammering about? Or are you just going to run away?

Asks "Mark," spelled with an "h."
Say, "Markh," is the "h" silent or pronounced with a petulant sigh?

"I hope Barack Obama will come up with some comparably witty remarks as he presides over the dismantling of our contemporary forms of prohibition laws that prevent gay marriage . . . pursuit of happiness. What's driving the legalization of gay marriage is not so much the moral argument but the pressures from couples who want to sanctify their relationships, obtain legal benefits. . . . yada, yada"

sooo, congrats . . . I guess - -

are u gonna be the alpha or beta?
(not there is anything wrong with either)

Look, the GOP has come out in severe opposition to hate-crime legislation and has voted against making Haliburton stop it's contractors from gang-raping at will.

They are also in opposition to making insurance companies and wall street operate ethically.

Why in the hell would the GOP (and the Demos too for that matter) be in favor of harming one of their biggest 'contributors' - Pharma companies?

Listen, our gov't will never and I mean never decriminalize mary-jane. Never.

Uh, Markuih, I didn't write the article

"sooo, congrats . . . I guess - -
are u gonna be the alpha or beta?"

You assume I'm homosexual because someone else wrote that? Markuh, that's as stoopid as me assuming you'r hetero. By the way, given your familiarity with such terms of art as "alpha" and "beta," could you tell me what they mean (other than being the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet)?

My mistake, Markuh. The first letter of the old Greek alphabet is indeed alpha. Beta, however, is the second, not the last letter. (Whcih is omega.) I'd hate to have Crispee Palooka or Minmal Effort Joe Blackstone feel the need to throw a hissy fit over that.

Say, "Markh," is the "h" silent or pronounced with a petulant sigh?

Doc, ya seemed to be pretty enthusiastically cheer-leading an alternate life style with your blog selection(s).

kindly accept my apologies if I mis-read the situation -

I'm betting it was the Humpback Whales that got you lathered, Markuh. Yeah, definitely the whales.

By the way, have you ever heard of "projection"? Not in the sense of the job you used to have down at the multiplex, but as used in the disciplie of psychology. You really ought to look into it sometime.

As an addendum...

Memo to Markuh:

Sometimes an article about the problem the GOP has with the Prohibition concept isn't all about homosexuality but about the GOP problem with Prohibition.

A tad sensitive there, aren't you, Markuh?

"disciplie of psychology"

Is that the plural of disciple or something?

As the Tark once said, "spellcheck".

You are welcome.

Markuh, your fascination with my sex life is flattering but, I assure you, you're not my type. I'm hetero.

z.......

Hooked another one.....reel him in Cap'n

Libs, too EZ.

Thanks Duck. I actually laughed out loud on that one.

Great catch. LOL!!!!!

It's fascinating. This is the 21st post on this thread (at least it is as I'm writing it -- another could get in before this is posted). (It's necessary to issue such quaifiers because fastidiots like The Chumpel really do get themselves lathered up over such "lies.")

Of those 21 posts -- on a thread that asks "Can the GOP Accept the End of Prohibition?" -- nearly half come from a the DR's Frick and Frack of stoopid trolls: Markuh and The Chumpel. And what do they post about? Well, The Chumpel outs himself/herself/itself as a silly, simpering Spelling Nazi who can't spell. And Markuh -- poor, poor Markuh-- he/she/it exhibits a passionate interest in the thread poster's sexual preferences.

Only Lipzoidal and I have commented on the actual topic of the thread.

And on that score, I don't see how the GOP can accept the end of prohibition (in the broad sense as used in the essay). Their base is staunchly, irredeemably puritanical and so firmly wedded to zealotry that I just don't see how they can ween themselves from prohibitionism as part of their blinkered world view.

Now, Chumpel, feel free to return to the prosaic pasttime of parsing sentences while Markuh gets oily fantasizing about my sex life.

LOL

I'm hetero.

Not surprisingly, the point of that post eludes you, Markuh. Consider some of your posts on this thread:

"Doc comes out of the closet on the DR?" Clearly you're interested.

"are u gonna be the alpha or beta?" I'm still waiting for your explanation of what that means, since it sounds like some sort of inside-the-beltway, those-who-know talk and I'm not inside-the-beltway and I don't know.

"ya seemed to be pretty enthusiastically cheer-leading an alternate life style." An obvious expression of disappointment that your search for a kindred spirit -- a wood sprite, perhaps? -- went unrewarded.

"pass my apologies along to your 'partner' too," sounds a lot like an expression of resignation with a heavy infusion of jealousy.

Clearly, what you call "the alternate life style" is a source of genuine fascination for you. You toss it out there to get a reaction, prepared to: (A) adopt the yuk-yuk-juss-kiddin, I'm-one-of-the-guys posture to camouflage your real intent (with which you are obviously not comfortable and must make at least some effort to repress); or (B) assume a quite different posture if your thinly-veiled come-hither signals elicit a positive response.

This may seem much ado about nothing, Markuh, but there are professionals out there who can help you work through this. You might want to consider seeking their assistance, if only to be able to live more comfortably inside your own skin.

That said, Markuh, whatever "the alternate life style" may be for you -- and whether you live it or just yearn to do so -- doesn't concern me beyond the abstracted "reality" of the virtual world here on the DR.

Please, get it through your thick skull, Markuh, I'm really not interested. (Although, as a fellow human being, I feel compelled to mechanically declare in a bored voice layered with repressed laughter, "But I am concerned.")

Finally, a word of advice, Markuh: If you stalk in real life as you seek "the alternate life style" the way you do here, trolling for the object of your desire, someone will slap a restraining order on you. Here, you just get laughed at.

An obvious expression of disappointment that your search for a kindred spirit -- a wood sprite, perhaps? -- went unrewarded.

Would it please you if I said I did, Markuh?

I don't see how you guys get the goddamn HTML to work so well. For me, even if it looks all right on the preview, it will mess up on me when I click to publish the comment.

it will mess up on me when I click to publish the comment.

Happens to me sometimes too.I wish I would remember to COPY what I wrote so I don't have to rewrite it.

I sure don't feel like an equal person when it says I didn't make a comment
