Peter Beinart: Next Tuesday's gubernatorial elections [in New Jersey and Virginia] probably don't matter, and even if they do, they probably don't matter in the way people assume.

Excellent Strategy.

Who's your victim of choice for the GOP's 2012 presidential nomination? It's not exactly a field about which anyone other than a lockstepper could say, "Here there be giants."

From the article:

"the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial elections have zero predictive value."

That's the way I see it.

Excellent Strategy.

Newsworthy flag.

"Next Tuesday's gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia"

This statement is very accurate. Almost 100% I do believe.

Re 2012 Pres election, reminds me of an obscure line from an obscure tune from an obscure Play, "Fieorello", Musical about the the beloved Mayor of New York during the Tammany Hall years...

'Gentlemen, here we are and one thing is clear,
we gotta pick a candidate for congress this year.

Gentlemen, how's about some names we can use, some qualified Republican who's willing to lose."

The Virginia governorship has gone to the party not currently in the WH for over Three Decades.

Of course, this will be interpreted as a "mandate" and a repudiation of Obama by the same people who consider 4 out of ten a "majority" (i.e. the wingdings)!

We are all to some degree political junkies here at the DR.

Now I ask you folks to the left side of the aisle--

If there was a Repub in the POTUS job and doing a friggin piss poor job and the NJ and VA Gov elections were here--would you on the left just waive it off?

Honest question.

I am not going to say that the results of the races will predict the future. The Gov's or the 23rd.

They only are a reflection of what is going on right now.

And it ain't "mmm mm mm".

Virginia probably doesn't mean much but I would say New Jersey does especially if government sach's Corzine loses.

Pre-emptive spin. Yawn.

The only way Barry can stop a GOP landslide in 2010 is to do what they do in Venesuela or Honduras.

Sarvis is already drunk and skipped 2010.

If the Dems sweep NJ and VA, you can better be sure that the libbies will trumpet that to say that Republicans are irrelevant, are a permanent minority, blah blah blah. The fact that New Jersey is even competitive is bad enough.

Well, it looks like the White House is taking the author's advice. They're distancing themselves as far away as possible.

I think Obama is going to bomb Iran immediately before the elections. I GUARANTEE IT!!

Not really. Unless he thought it would really help.

If there was a Repub in the POTUS job and doing a friggin piss poor job

IF???

Isn't that like asking "If the sun rises in the east..."

It's basically a given.

This thread will be a fun search result after the elections if the Dems win.

If this guy was a top you could use him as a Gyroscope!...talk about spin!

Sure ..believe that if you wish....no mention of the NY election for congress...wonder why

Like the Dems didn't claim Bush was a failure and that was proven in the 2006 elections and then again in the 2008 results.

Lets see how tall Obama stands in 2012. My guess is the Dems will be "lockstepping" with a pip squeak.

Whats new? When has dok had anything intelegent to say?

If having Rethug governors in Joisey and Virginny is a foregone conclusion, why hold an election at at all?

Why not just take all the names in their sex offender registries and draw from a hat?

Deeds has been thrown under the bus and if New Jersey isn't important why is Obama continually going back to New Jersy to stump for Government Sach's Corzine (2 more times before Tuesday). This is a blue, blue state and it'll be significant if Government Sach's Corzine loses or wins with less then 40% of the vote.

HA

anyone need anymore proof that the goddamn dems know whats about to happen.

AND a report out about POSSIBLE VOTING MACHINE problems in both states..or maybe just in virginia.

THE excuses are getting all ready.

good question matsop..
but we know the answer...

why is Obama continually going back to New Jersey

It's the ecstasy, stupid.
Just kidding, you're not stupid, but Corzine's reelection campaign staff is.

Blech, Obama - taking time off of running the country to promote. What, the "O"rganizer couldn't get ACORN to do his dirty work?
