Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

New Yorkers are fleeing the state and city in alarming numbers -- and costing a fortune in lost tax dollars, a new study shows.

More than 1.5 million state residents left for other parts of the United States from 2000 to 2008, according to the report from the Empire Center for New York State Policy. It was the biggest out-of-state migration in the country.

The vast majority of the migrants, 1.1 million, were former residents of New York City -- meaning one out of seven city taxpayers moved out.

"The Empire State is being drained of an invaluable resource -- people," the report said.

Hey Ange, you need to get with the program and quit posting things already posted.

Two for two so far.

Don't play the Jeff J astroturf game.

And you are right, no one is surprised since this was posted yesterday.

Its' not the taxes that bother me, its the cost of living.

2 bedrooms, 650 sq feet, fourth floor walk up in a pre-ww2 building, $2700/month

daycare for 1, $1880/month

food for two adults and a child? 4 bags of groceries... $100 per trip (about 5 a month).

Maybe I could shave 10% off that by being cheap about the food, or moving into a roach infested apartment get it down by %20.

In Tokyo, London and Berlin there are far fewer "pre-ww2" buildings.

"650 sq feet"

I have closets bigger than that.

LOL.

Braggart.

I could live in a 650 space or less with our two and my husband - we used to motorhome and fifth wheel in his work travels - talk about trying to cram 10 gallons of crap into a five gallon bucket! Sometimes I miss those days...sigh...

"I could live in a 650 space or less with our two and my husband"

Its not unlivable, I've definitely crammed more into less space before (have at it, trolls), but could you do it if it was twice as expensive as it usually is throughout the rest of the country?

H.C. - all of our payments going out on several pieces of property and one home (one is paid for), power bills, and car payment don't add up to what you pay for your apartment! Good thing too - what you pay for rent is almost half of my husband's income - y'all must got rocks! HA!

"more than 250,000 New Yorkers who lived in and around the city fled to Florida."

Gee this is a new phenomenon, New Yorkers are retiring in Florida.

My parents are starting to bug me about coming to visit them in Tampa again.

God I hate those trips.

My bad didn't see this was already posted.

Funny how taxes in NYS have been dropping until 2009, yet this thread claims that tax refugees are fleeing NY since 2000?

Strange.

"650 sq feet"

Full of those Brioni's from Corkles neck of the woods, Venice: Men's Wearhouse.

"God I hate those trips."

I wish I could still visit my parents anywhere. I'll have to see them in the hereafter.

Many NYers are moving to Hoboken and Jersey City. The real estate is cheaper and so is the cost of living but NJ has the highest property taxes in America

I wish I could still visit my parents anywhere. I'll have to see them in the hereafter.

Thanks, Ms. Depressing.

:(

HC:

I think Danni would love to be in your shoes. As would I with my mom.

I'd go any distance to have the chance to spend some time with her again.

You're very Blessed to still have them with you.

I know what she meant. I love them, but why'd they have to go and move to Tampa of all places?

Maybe Danni or Kanrei can pay them a visit for me?

"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Celine, I'm a friend of Hagbard's from the Retort. He asked me to pay you both a visit."

"Oh, so you know Hagbard. You know that's not really his name, right?"
