Are you rich???

How much do you make and how much higher would you have to be to be rich in your eyes?

good question. i don't consider 150-200K rich. maybe 300-350K if it's based in large part on investment income.

B.O. said $250K but that will "Change" like everything else that he said while on the stump.

We are rich by some standards and poor by others. It is not necessarily how much money you have but how well you spend, save and invest.

Has nothing to do with income at all. I know people who earn solid 6 figures who don't have two nickels to rub together, and I know others worth millions that don't draw much of an income at all.

it doesnt matter to me either
IM rich on life itself

TRANSLATION.....no money and have to make that shit up...lol

I Do remember from college sociology when prof went through some of this.
it was a little surprizing that the level of middle class was a lot higher than I thought it was which of course places rich higher up.

Soon, anyone not on the dole will be "rich".

When your out of the rat race. When you can stop working and still afford to do pretty much whatever you want. When the amount of tax money you send to the government is more than you ever thought you'd make in a year, just a few years earlier.

When you moved, your salary remained basically the same? I would think you'd get paid more than in Utah.

When the top 5% make more than everyone else combined, you kinda have to agree that maybe they are 'rich'.

Well at least in the political world it is simple, whoever has more then you. But it can also mean whatever group does not have the numbers to thwart attempts to steal from them.

My brother makes $800,000 a year and considers himself lower upper class. I make about $175,000 a year with benefits, and for SoCal I consider myself middle middle class. Between mortgage payments, college costs, taxes, 401(k) deductions and so forth, I don't have a lot of extra income at the end of the month. I often wonder how people around here who only make about $50,000 a year are ever able to buy houses, let alone make ends meet.

I make about 47 per year and it is tough. If I had a wife, kids, or a life, I don't see how I could make it. On my own I am paycheck to paycheck.

I could afford my home because my parents loaned me a down payment and co-signed the mortgage. It is cheaper to own in Miami than it is to rent.

All too often people confuse "income" with "assets".

Income comes and goes. Assets remain, and can produce income. I see too many folks with, as RiR said, six figure incomes, who are broke. One longtime friend of mine, who always made (and spent) 100K+, just lost his job & couldn't sell his house, so he had to file for bankruptcy. And I have another client who makes in the high 20s, but maxxes out her IRA every year. I have a lot more hope for the latter. And if we hit another downturn, and other clients lose their 6-figure jobs, it'll be more of the same: anyone who can't tell good years from bad, and puts something away for the bad years, will be in trouble.

that is because his post referenced a lack personal responsiblity for someone's failure.

Refreshing indeed.

I never considered 100K rich, I don't know if I consider 250K rich. I definitely think 1 million per year you are rich. If you make several million per year then you are very rich.

So someone is not 'rich' because they have an out of control coke and hooker habit? Yeah, let the rich tell us when their higher tax rates should kick in. After all, we can trust them with the public's welfare, right? It's worked in the past, right?

health is ultimately the only true wealth...hence mms 1 & 2 help one get there:>)

Anything over 1 million in income should be taxed at a 90% rate. I make about 35 an hour. I am doing ok but not great. I am able to save a little each check but not as much as I would like. Between student loans and child support I get fucked every month.

May I make a suggestion? Start your own business on the side. Work nights and weekends. Put your whole life into it. When your making more on the side than at your job, quit your day job. Put everything you have into the business. Build it up where the money coming in should be more than you would need to live comfortably. Then look at your insurance and tax bills for that month. Then tell everyone how fucked you feel.

Stir,

Jackass is a union insulated factory worker who would never dare to do something like that.

but that won't stop him from criticizing anybody who does.

The interest rates came down so far that it became possible. I remember when interest rates were high. Had to rent.

One thing I did before getting married was save money when I could, didn't use credit cards, and worked overtime and worked on the side for extra cash. All of this was saved.

Just last year, I bought a TV that used a remote. Before that, I had to get up off my butt to change channels and move the rabbit ears.

I never had a new car until last year. My cars usually were 15 years old or more when I bought them and ran them into the ground.

Eating out? Do you mean just dinner or all three meals. Once or twice a month and that was considered a treat. Seeing people going out for all meals, including for coffee and such just shows how much 'want' exists.

I have no idea how to use a cellphone, ipod, etc. Just never got into it because I couldn't afford it. My expenses were for need, not want.

Getting married and having kids, the focus is on need AND no credit card debt.

It's why you read my posts and see how I must continually complain about spending by both parties.

We need tax cuts AND we need spending cuts. Let the people have their money and they will spend it. Employers will spend it. We don't need gov't spending it.

I get fucked every month.

......on the bright side......it's one more than Nanc gets.......

It's relative. A rich man in San Antonio could be a poor man in California or NYC

Every American is rich by the standards of destitute third world countries.

But relative to each other, it takes around $150,000 a year to be in the top 5 percent of earners and around $388,000 to be in the top 1 percent. If you earn more than 95 percent of Americans, that's probably rich in my book.
