Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The American Booksellers Association on Thursday asked the U.S. Justice Department to investigate online book price wars underway by Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target.

In a letter from the 109-year-old trade organization representing independent booksellers, the ABA's board told antitrust officials that the discounted pre-sales of hardback bestsellers for $9, "constitute illegal predatory pricing that is damaging to the book industry and harmful to consumers."

Some things are better bought online. I bought a 10" Delta table saw with a 50 inch Beisemeyer fence. $1,200 delivered from Amazon. I paid with a debit card. It went real smooth.

Ordering gun powder or primers online sucks because you have to pay a HAZMAT fee.

They even gave me a Frued dato set as a bonus for buying. Nice blades.

this reminds me of when Best Buy first showed up on the national scene.

They were selling CD's for just a few cents profit per unit.

So an average CD was like 7 or 8 bucks when at the time to get the same thing at Camelot or Virgin or Sam Goody was like 19 or 20$

They were forced by legal action to raise their prices.

isnt that built into the price of the stuff when you buy it at a sporting goods/gun store anyway? it still has to be shipped...

They buy in bulk. The fee is per shipment, not per unit, so when you buy it at the store the extra price is just a few cents.
