Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Nobody should get too hung up over President Obama's decision, reported by Der Spiegel over the weekend, to cancel plans to attend next month's 20th anniversary celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Germany's reunited capital has already served his purposes; why should he serve its?

In fact, there has been no pressing whatsoever on human rights.

They're not on Obama's agenda, apparently.

It also takes a remarkable degree of cynicism, or perhaps cowardice, to treat human rights as something that "interferes" with America's purposes in the world, rather than as the very thing that ought to define them. Yet that is exactly the record of Mr. Obama's time thus far in office.

Once again, Obama finds a way to vote "present" and still pretend to his fawning cling-ons that he cares.

And if he decided to attend the rtards would be attacking him for doing so.

BFD.

And if he decided to attend the rtards would be attacking him for doing so.

Bullshiite. Please explain your nonsense.

Did President Bush ever visit the Berlin Wall? Did President Clinton visit it at the 10 year mark? I have no idea and it isn't worth googling because this is a non issue.

Theres so much fucked up at all times with this country that I'm glad hes not wasting his time going to Germany for this.

Don't forget Bagram.

The Dems don't care about Bagram, it's not a talking point. Hell they don't care about Gitmo anymore, apparently.

Obama can't be bothered. He has a campaign to run. Anything needing to be done can be done by "President Axelrod" while Obama is on the campaign trail.

But Obama will be back at the White House in time to Partaaaay!!!

This op ed is just plain Obama bashing, dishonest as hell.
"Earlier this year, the State Department denied a grant request for New Haven, Conn.-based Iran Human Rights Documentation Center. The Center maintains perhaps the most extensive record anywhere of Iran's 30-year history of brutality. The grant denial was part of a pattern: The administration also abruptly ended funding for Freedom House's Gozaar project, an online Farsi- and English-language forum for discussing political issues.

It's easy to see why Tehran would want these groups de-funded and shut down. But why should the administration, except as a form of pre-emptive appeasement?"

Is the author stupid or dishonest when he pretends he doesn't understand why the Obama administration would want to disconnect from Iranian groups who are in jeopardy of arrest, torture, murder. The last thing these people need to is to be connected to the US. That isn't Obama not caring about human rights it is Obama caring about human lives.

This guy Bret Stephens seems like a right wing hack.

The Dems only care about human rights when they're not in the White House. Remember all those funny bumper that says "Free Tibet!", or say some nonsense about Darfur?

They don't really care. It's just a way that they can pretend to. If Dick Cheney were to say, you're right! Let's liberate Tibet!, the libbies would all rush outside to peel off their Tibet stickers, and put on the ones that say "War Is Not The Answer".

These people who make a big deal about human rights aren't doing Obama any favors. Don't they realize that he needs to be able to use them in speeches, but that's all? Come on--you don't expect him to actually pick up a phone, and make a difference, do you? Don't get all hopeychangey on us.

WOW! Great work Danni!

See guys, Obama is being heroic!!!

LMAO. Very nice work. You should be on the payroll. I remember when that ship full of Jews was trawling the world, looking for safe harbor, and nobody wanted to take them, so as not to offend the Germans. Gotta keep a low profile, you know. But it never occurred to ANYONE to say that, no, we're doing the Jews a favor!!

Wow. Can't say it enough.

Asking for a grant to document brutality in Iran does not "connect" America to those brutal acts. If anything it shows that America is paying attention and does not agree with what is going on.

That was a stupid post. Even for you.

Hey RightIs - tell us more about your ins co ceo's 2009 salary. Or are you a GoatBoOb-type who can't admit when you're wrong. (In GoatBoOb's defense, I don't think the poor sap has ever realized it when he's been wrong, no matter how obvious it is to everyone else (except CC, that is)).

How odd that the WSJ publishes this piece after ignoring Bush's record on human rights for 8 years. You'd almost think they had an anti-Obama bias or something.

I wish he would have ignored Bono.

And if he decided to attend the rtards would be attacking him for doing so.

Perhaps you are right we would be upset if, he went there spoke but didn't mention the American led triumph of freedom, much like when he was there last time, and forgot to mention any US President from Truman to Reagan.

My guess though is he doesn't want to piss off Putin. But we have seen how that works out, Clinton left with hat in hand. More appeasment through gestures, and nothing to show for it.

His salary was $2 million. He got a bunch of restricted stock, that he can't cash in for 10 years or so.

But after doing research on the guy, he's a big Obama supporter too. In fact, Obama has praised him in his speeches. So he's just another rich douchebag, who thinks he can use Washington to further enrich himself.

So maybe I should switch to Met or Humana. Same price, basically.

Yeah, they do have an anti-Obama bias.

Do they have a point with regard to Obama though, or not?

Yes, Joe, they do.

That was a good first effort, RightIs. You almost did it. You know, the Fonz had a real hard time saying that he was sorry. Do you wear a leather jacket, by any chance? Have you tried to jump a shark while waterskiing?

I'm sorry I'm with an insurance company that believes that climbing into bed with Obama and the Washington Democrats is a huge money-making opportunity. And that is something that I will remedy come renewal time, in December.

Seems as if Aetna has played this perfectly. Get their CEO (who's black, by the way) invited to the White House a half dozen times, get him to help in drafting the legislation, and pay over 90% of his compensation in stock awards that vest over years, which--if it works, will benefit everybody.

Good bye. All too incestuous for me.

"Wow. Can't say it enough."

So, you think a direct link between America or even the American President to an Iranian protester wouldn't have dire consequences for that protester???
Do you honestly believe, at this point, the Obama administrationis that concerned about offending Iran????

"Good bye. All too incestuous for me."

Did it bother you wne Ken Lay helped layout the energy policy in secret with Cheney and helped plan the Iraq invasion at the same time???

Reagan stood up and demanded the release of Soviet dissidents, by name. Used to be that the attention of the American president meant that totalitarian regimes would be forced to handle them with kid gloves, for appearance's sake.

No, Obama just doesn't care. And you're trying to sell his apathy as virtue, pretending that it's out of concern. And if Obama doesn't care, why should the mullahs running Iran?

I'll ask another way: if Obama were to take up their cause, would you say that he's making a big mistake?

Nope. Tell me Danni--is there a single issue on which you think Obama is wrong?

hhahhaha more DR righty stupidity in this thread.

right is right is there a single issue you think obama is right?

no

yer party at least doesn't think so, and you travel just as hand in hand with your party as does danni.

stop being a crybaby.
