Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

"If you're reading this then you -- or the male you have bought it for -- are the worst man in history. No ifs, no buts -- the worst man, period ... As a class we are in fact the sorriest cohort of masculine Homo sapiens to ever walk the planet." -- anthropologist Peter McAllister

Bullshit, how many of them could mass-produce implements of death and destruction.

I'll take your muscular neandethals, a whole tribe of them, and place them up against one pimply kid with an ak-47.

It's nice to see that at least the level of thinking has remained primative.

BTW, like the name (nogov4me). I can dig it.

This article actually reminds me of one of the things I think about on a regular basis.

I am an engineer. I am involved in designing and buiding things that support and evolve our present modern life.

Have you ever noticed that every single thing we consider to be enhancements to our present mode of living, is actually, at every step, moving us further away from the natural?

**** His conclusions about the speed of Australian aboriginals 20,000 years ago are based on a set of footprints, preserved in a fossilized claypan lake bed, of six men chasing prey. *****

......maybe a big fucking tiger was chasing them.......

"Have you ever noticed that every single thing we consider to be enhancements to our present mode of living, is actually, at every step, moving us further away from the natural?"

Isn't that true by definition?

I think it is true, but where I find the problem is that, though I don't remember a source to site for an exact figure, modern man works more hours than any of our predecessors, just less physically. Not really sure that's progress.

"Not really sure that's progress."

That's because most of us are paying interest on one thing or another. Gains in technology and productivity are not equally shared by all involved in them. They disproportionately flow toward those with the most current knowledge about how things are going.

knowledge is power.

And how fast would he have run carrying a television set on Slauson Blvd with three cops coming after him??

This so-called anthropologist Peter McAllister
is clearly homophobic. He wouldn't know a real
man if it sashayed right in front of his face!

Be Well.

In my opinion we were better off when we had to chase our food and then fight it. Human beings have stopped evolving. All we have to do is drive to Kroger, they have what we need. I can't turn back time.

I am doing what I can to breed weakness out of the gene pool. My kids probably think I'm a fucking nut and they might not follow my lead when they venture out into the world, I'm doing my part now though. With a little luck I'll live longer because of it and it will stick with them so they can pass it on.

Anthropologist McAllister's cleverly and ably gone for the one-off, mini-headline story. Interesting stuff, of course. (Like the research that revealed many Cro-Magnon skeletons display injuries akin to those suffered by modern rodeo bronc and bull riders.) But, really, is there anyone who doesn't know that the physics of the hunt and warfare, and the elements of basic survivability have changed over the pastcouple of hundred thousand years? I mean, other than Republican hacks?

I like the picture at in the article. Man evolves all the way up to a fat ass sitting in a chair.

"I am doing what I can to breed weakness out of the gene pool."

A vow of celibacy?

You misunderstand the theory of evolution. You're following the Lamarckian theory when it is Darwinsim that is generally accepted now. Doc_Sarvis alluded to this, because if you were subjecting your family to Darwinian evolution then you would select which of them gets to reproduce, therby passing-on thier superior genes.

Yeah. So say more?

I've been thinking about it b/c my stress level has been much higher than back in days when I made a lot less money. Spending less time on the computer, seeing more people f2f, cooking more (instead of grabbing something quickly or eating out), taking long walks outside (instead of running the treadmill at the gym), etc. seem to help -- and are all backing away from "modern enhancements."

Based on the article and based on comments I am reading, it seems people believe the primary weaknesses of modern man are physical in nature.

Personally, I think the biggest weaknesses of modern man aren't physical at all. I think modern man has been pussified (in the US and other "civilized" societies).

Modern man is ill equipped for hard times and is spoiled.

Modern man is emotionally weak. Many adults don't grow up and frequently behave like children.

All this emphasis on the physical weaknesses of man are missing the point.

I agree that "modern man" is wimpish, but not for the reasons being listed in the article or what I seem to see people writing about here.

Right, being hard, living a hard life, and doing everything I can to not raise a few pussies will have nothing to do with it.

With a little luck they will continue what I have started and reproduce with people who have done the same. If everyone followed my lead the disgusting fat bastard would be extinct within a few generations.

Today is "Sunday runday", at my house. I'd break down what that means for us but I doubt you would believe me.

Does that mean that our present mode of life is the pinnacle of our success and we should retain it, unchanged, for the rest of our existence? The same has been stated throughout human history. Invariably by people at the apex of that society. And yet, we do live better than people in any previous century.

The entire point of a functioning civilization is to enable most of its people to live in some kind of comfort removed from the threats of all enemies - be they other people or nature or whatever. Those people will inevitably become "wimpish".

No magic there. No reason it shouldn't occur. No reason, in of itself, that this is bad. And it is vastly preferable to having everyone in razor-sharp physical condition facing danger every second of every day - aka "natural".

" And it is vastly preferable to having everyone in razor-sharp physical condition facing danger every second of every day - aka "natural"."

"Natural". Yeah. In reality, most people are technologically or chemically "enhanced". Everyone's a transhumanist at heart.

pontificating,self righteous asshole on earth,
rotting meat with no soul once dead..Takitezuptheass

Scientists don't have many ways of accumulating wealth. A provocative-sounding book and the talk-show circuit is about the easieste route.

Comparing modern man's physicial strength to a Neandertal is about as irrelevant as comparing a chicken's strength to that of the dinosaur it descended from. Totally irrelevant.

And modern liberal man has balls that have essentially ceased function. He has devised a system called "government" to take necessities from other more productive members of the species and distribute to himself and the other ball functionless men.
