5 Teens Charged with Setting Teen on Fire

Five teenagers in Deerfield Beach, Fla., were charged with aggravated battery Tuesday for allegedly dousing a 15-year-old with rubbing alcohol and setting him on fire because he stopped someone from stealing his father's bicycle.

I gotta admit feeling a momentary pang of disappointment that the accompanying video didn't depict the (vile! awful! inhumane! reprehensible!) act in question...

Sucks. At my hospital I see burned kids around all the time, many of them less than 3 years old. At least young kids don't usually remember why they have scars all over their body; this kid is gonna be in hell for a while.

I lit one of my friends on fire with a home made flamethrower once. Just got his leg hair though. 2-liter pop bottle with gasoline in it, on it's side, and a small flame in front of it. I couldn't wait for my turn to jump.

Also blew another friend up by igniting a "lake" of gasoline we had made together. He was still working on it when I lit him up. haha! I got caught in it, but just my sneakers were on fire.

How we made it through those days without any serious burns is beyond me.

Doesn't make sense that only the kid with the lighter should be facing charges of attempted murder.

IMHO, each of these little fucks should be also doused with rubbing alcohol, torched, and given the opportunity to run the 150 yards to a pool to douse themselves.

That can be the only real justice here.

I don't know, I sort of agree with that. The rest of them might have been too big of pussies to actually commit that final act, and had he been a pussy too, nobody would really deserve an attempted murder charge.

had the others not helped, the kid might have been able to defend himself against the one who was willing to follow all the way through... The other 4 are just as guilty.

That's true, in my state if you intentionally provide assistance to others in their commission of a crime, you can be held responsible for that crime. Not sure what the rules are in FL though.

I think these boys are just misunderstood. If they had a proper upbringing, in a more compassionate country, they wouldn't have felt the need to engage in these acts.

If they already had bicycles, they wouldn't have had the need to steal one in the first place.

If Bush were truly a compassionate conservative, this wouldn't have happened.

One is a crime, the other within a possible realm of punishment which would serve society in its deterrent effect, and providing retribution for the criminal act.

The logic is plain enough. Obviously, such a punishment would not be approved in America. So, there's really no useful point in discussing it. As Goat points out, albeit unwittingly, your 'logic' could lead to a conclusion that no punishment at all would be appropriate.

Talks cheap buddy takes money to buy whiskey. I very much doubt You would beg for the death penalty if given a sentence of life. Especially if You were innocent. You would spend the rest of Your life fighting for Your innocence. Mark My Words.

Doubt all you want, Larry. I know my heart better than you. There is no way I would be able to tolerate a sentence of life in prison. If I got the death sentence, I would shun all appeals.

Since acts of terrorism are criminal acts they are entitled to challenge their detainment. Since they are alledged criinals they are due justice. That is a charge within 72 hours of detainment and then subsequently a trial and then guilt or aquittal. This is how we are SUPPOSED to behave in the United States. To do otherwise is barbaric and not within our American Values.

In the past 1 week, there have been at least 4 heinous crimes involving a group of teens.

Just this week, 4 kids in NH broke into a house and used a machete to kill a woman and her 11 year old daughter. The house was picked randomly.

And this:

Vegas teen got his friend to kill the teen's parents, police say.The Las Vegas Sun has a pretty full report on the case of Timothy Chester, 18, of Las Vegas, who allegedly got his friend, Victor Veliz, to kill Chester's parents because they'd had a fight. Police say that Chester had wanted to kill his entire family, including a sister and her family, who lived with them.

Then the teens in this 'fire' article. There's one more I'm forgetting.

I approve of Incarceration on one simple condition:

NOT EVEN ONE CENT OF TAX PAYER MONEY IS SPENT TO SUPPORT THE CRIMINALS.

Assuming no other source of income is found, this would mean that the prisoners would starve to death.

To avoid starving them, I approve of extracting enought labor from them (willing or not) to pay for the guards, and all prison upkeep, and ALL prisoner "benefits" (such as medical care). If they can't earn enough money to PAY to see a doctor, NO DOCTOR.

A few folks here have mentioned youthful stupidity involving fire.

There is a core difference:

In cases of youthful (usually male) stupidity, there is no intent to kill or maim (although minor injury might be intended....). Heck, I STILL have an extremely faded burn scar on my butt from over 30 years ago. Sadly, some kids die. Its the nature of young men, even when they don't intend more than something 'funny' with their friends. (It is right and correct for adults to try and minimze the damage young men do, but there is a need to avoid "smothering" them....)

In the cases of EVIL, there is a deliberate effort to kill and/or maim.
