Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

While Russia's president congratulated President Barack Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize, Republicans see the award as so outrageous that they're using it to raise campaign money. Obama won the prize "for awesomeness," says the mocking GOP fundraising letter. Obama's honor shows "how meaningless a once honorable and respected award has become," says the letter, signed by Michael S. Steele, chairman of the Republican National Committee. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev had a different view. He said the award will encourage further U.S.-Russian cooperation.

The GOP has become so petty and so bitter that unless they themselves are the focus of homage, Republicans can't even take pleasure in the honor bestowed upon America by the rest of the world.
Pretty pathetic day for rightwing America when even our adversary, Russia, can congratulate us and see this recognition as a means of moving forward on important issues. I wouldn't go quite so far as to call Republicans traitorous scum. But they seem to be getting close to that territory.

Right wing Mantra during GWs reign "America, FUCK YEAH!

Rightwing Mantra since Obama was inaugrated...FUCK America, YEAH!

GOPhers are desperate, and it has started getting really ugly. They can't even take pride in this great country being once again respected and admired. Really pathetic. I am almost to think what individual GOPhers may do next in their bitter desperation.

when even our adversary (aka:enemy), Russia, can congratulate us and see this recognition as a means of moving forward on important issues ..

yikes, my 4th grade nephew could shred that thought . . .
move forward on what issues? more apology & surrender??

Markh, I realize you are one of the bitter ones. But ask yourself some questions before continuing to make a fool of yourself. Namely, what "apology and surrender"? None, obviously. That is just another Limbaugh Hannity talking point.
Try to love America for a change and not just your pathetic ideology.

MARKH---As noted, by myself and by others, you fellows are just playing a zero-sum game with Obama. Anything, and I mean anything, Obama does that seems like it might be or is considered by others to be positive is perceived as a let-down and a loss for you.

I've just to day put myself back in touch with the incredibly pissy things you fellows said about Obama for having a few pirates killed. Of course, if Obama hadn't killed a few pirates, a whole new raft of pissy things was waiting to be served in the wings.

MODER8 critiques your "pathetic ideology". I won't even extend you that much dignity. You guys are in thrall to the laugh lines of a few syndicated comedians. As such you are beyond superficial, with less gravitas than comic book characters.

Well, if the Russians say so . . .

Gobama!!! LMAO. On another thread, the Republicans are on the same side as the enemy for thinking it's a silly choice. And on this one, the Soviets are lauding the choice.

Pretzel logic from the libbies.

obama and peace prize....LOL!

The nobel prize just got reduce to political hacking standard.

I wonder how much money obama has secretly had our government contribute to nobel?

Zed, ya kind missed the point of my post - -
I thought it clear enough that a 5th grader could follow - - anyway, here it is in 3rd grade terms

I made no mention of the Obamster, I was simply astounded that moder3
(& you too, I guess) are so naive . .

embracing Jimmy Carter style international politics - -aka - -
interpreting actions of a longtime self-declared adversary/enemy Russia, as if it were Bret Favre shaking hands with opponent Packers at mid-field after a Viking victory

scared stupid?

All politics.

The left and right roles have just been reversed.

This cartoon could have been just as applicable during the Bush administration, only skewering the left instead.

Sidenote: Russia is currently our adversary on a great number of issues. They are not currently our enemy. Remember, the Cold War is over, the USSR no longer exists, and Russia while scared of our aggressive nuclear policies. certainly is no longer threatening us with war like the did pre-'89. Anyone who fears a Russian invasion of the U.S. or Central/Western Europe is a fool.

Which Russians????

Lets goto a Russian POV....

Russia Today... "Many Russians raised their eyebrows"
www.youtube.com

It would be refreshing if rightwingers could take their collective heads out of their asses and have the patriotism and decency to rally behind this very popular, internationally highly regarded leader. But I suppose that would require class and integrity, - something the rightwing has been lacking for a very long time. Pathetic.

#11 | Posted by moder8 - FLAG: anyone who thinks Russia is our "buddy" is a REALLLY, REALLY, REALLY, BIG DOPE

Learn to read and comprehend MarkH. Nobody is saying Russia is our buddy. They are our adversary. (If all of this is too subtle for you, then why am I wasting my time even responding?)

Funny thing about all of the hand wringing about the damn thing.

It really has no bearing on him.

So a bunch of Sweeds think he is a swell guy.

Well good for them.

this is not an election.
This is not a legislative victory.
This is not an end to either of the wars.

Ill praise the guy If/When he accomplishes something that wasn't shoved down his throat. (ie the tap dancing for all they were worth to stave off utter economic collapse)

So a bunch of Sweeds think he is a swell guy.

Norwegians, actually

The Nobel Peace Prize has never been judged in the same manner as those for science and literature. The awarding of the Peace Prize has often been as a thumbs up to efforts that haven't yet borne results, but are acknowledged as positive steps in the right direction. Lord knows after the last 8 years the U.S. is finally looked upon again in a positive light.

1.4 mil for charity, nothing wrong with that

What would make the right wing ding pissing fest complete is if he gave 1/2 to Acorn and the other half to Jeremiah Wright.

are ya thinkin' thru what ya post??

trying to figure how it is that YOU then give credence to a Russian (perceived) compliment, when by your own definition they are our adversaries . . .

it'd be like an ex-wife complimenting that you "carry well" the extra 40 lbs ya put on since the split

Well, if the Russians say so . . .

Well, if the Taliban and Iran says so . . .

The GOP has gained a legitimate handle against liberals worldwide, thanks to the NOBEL prize committee.

If anyone can name anything Obama has done besides appeasing please do.

It's the Nobel Appease Prize.

-Restored our standing in the world in 9 short months.
-Al Qaeda recruitment way, way down as are other anti-American terrorist networks.
-America back on top of the world as the world's most respected country after 8 scorching years that saw our standing in the world tumble down.
-Obama spoke out against invading Iraq (rightly so) when it was political suicide to do so (being called a traitor)

There are many more reasons the Nobel Committee (who are 40% 'conservative' in the American sense) unanimously voted for President Obama to receive this award. One would think that would make all Americans proud, but evidently we'll always have 5-10% who are blithering blathering FoxNews idiots.

Others who've received it to further their cause (not for past accomplishments) include Desmond Tutu, who received it 10 years before the end of apartheid.

Timex. Do you really believe the BS you just spewed?

-Restored our standing in the world in 9 short months according to liberals
-AQ recruitment down? Proof please
-America back on top? Again -- in whose eyes was it down? Venezuela's? Cubas? Why do you care? Right now countries that trusted us for protection are disappointed (Poland maybe) -- do you care? What makes a country's opinion worth caring about?
-Obama spoke out against Iraq? Again ... so what? For that a Nobel Prize?

Next year when unemployment is at 10%, just like in all the countries whose respect you seem to hold in such high esteem -- please remember that this President has done nothing for this award no matter how much you wish to interpret otherwise. He is also doing nothing that will shorten a terrible economic cycle that is shedding hundreds of thousands of jobs per month. He is doing nothing to stop a nuclear Iran, in fact his inaction is almost guaranteeing that Israel will act on its own. He is not acting to win the "good war" in Afghanistan -- though he seemed to have all the answers, as you puy it, 9 short months ago.

This President is all rhetoric and campaigning. He is showing no signs of leadership or even a willingness to lead. He is trying to be all things to all people, just as he campaigned and having so many masters he is failing all around. Strip away what you wish to be, what you hope to be and you will see zero accomplishments unless you consider a massive explosion in welfare good.

And please, no more "its Bush's fault!!!" The Messiah asked for this job, had all the answers. Time to start leading, if that is what George Soros wants ...

Listening to what a Right Winger says these days is a lot like Masturbating into the Air and trying to catch your own yuck in your mouth. It's a pointless waste of time that just kinda makes you feel dirty afterwards.

KGB loves weakness to exploit

Only in Flush Rimjobs opiate-induced fantasy land.....and yours.

It's three more years of a weak president Barry at the helm. The Russians and every other interest who wants a weak USA will love the next 36 months.

"The Russians and every other interest who wants a weak USA will love the next 36 months."

And you'll do everything you can to undermine him at every turn, won't you?

If Obama eats oatmeal for breakfast, you righties say he disrespects the Egg and Bacon Producers of America, and the National Association of Pancake distributers and marketers. You would rail that for the Pres of the United States to eat oatmeal emboldens our enemies sends the wrong signals to our troops and that our Military leaders are grumbling.

We all know that there is nothing he will do that will please you.

Keep cryin like little bitches for the next 3 years, then, come election time, tell us how you deserve to get our votes cause you have demonstrated such leadership and ability to make contributions to the betterment of the nation. That should be a real easy sell.

Seriously, what does the republican party stand for other than uncompromising obstructionism and contrarianism ?

Oh, and we wont blame Bush for the conditions he passes on to Obama fore 1 day longer than you blamed Clinton for Bush's recession. I figgure thats about another 5 years or so.

ZULU, tell me what about my previous post are you disputing that any honest person couldn't deny?

All this squawking from the nitwits who brought you 'Freedom Fries' and the Iraq War.

What, pray tell, has B.O. actually accomplished that made him deserving of this once prestigious award?

The best answer I can think of is that he's not Bush. For libs I guess that's enough.

Carter, Gore, and Obama. Nobel has sure gone to shit.

Pass the Freedom Fries George F Bush

ZULU, tell me what about my previous post are you disputing that any honest person couldn't deny?

You're funny.

And you'll do everything you can to undermine him at every turn, won't you?

In spades. With relish. Yes.

Zulu hates America. Pass the French Fries over to him...

Obama can play chess

Shrub cannot

"In spades. With relish. Yes."

So you're willingly aligning yourself with "The Russians and every other interest who wants a weak USA"?!?

Wow, what a patriot.

Zulu hates America if it is not his ideological America. Well fuck you buster. Leave, - no patriotic American wants your type around.

moder8 why don't you read the English domiciled Financial Times article, which cites international crtitisim , and try to talk intelligently????

www.ft.com

Or are you too busy blowing trying to smoke up obama's ass?

#44 Dave forget it. I really think "MODER8" has somehow blown his "moderate" fuse. Seems to have happened right around the time the Dems won everything. Could be a serious case of SWS (Sore Winner Syndrome)

As I recall he really did attempt to be moderate and/or to moderate the discussion earlier in his DR life. Tsk tsk.

Of course they praise him! Obama is weak and they are taking advantage of it.

As soon as he leads us in not holding terror detainees indefinitely, and gets out of Iraq AND Afghanistan, I will get behind him. Until then, until he actually accomplishes something toward peace other than being liked, this award is nothing more than a "call to action."

But far more important than the lack of actual accomplishments are some of the policies over which Obama has presided that are the very opposite of peace.
...

That was from a May airstrike in which over 100 Afghan civilians were killed by American jets -- one of many similar incidents this year, including one only a week ago that killed 9 Afghan civilians. How can someone responsible for that, and who has only escalated that war, possibly be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the very same year that he did that? Does that picture above look like the work of a Nobel Peace laureate? Does this, from the May airstrike?
...

Beyond Afghanistan, Obama continues to preside over another war -- in Iraq: remember that? -- where no meaningful withdrawal has occurred. He uttered not a peep of opposition to the Israeli massacre of Gazan civilians at the beginning of this year (using American weapons), one which a U.N. investigator just found constituted war crimes and possibly crimes against humanity. The changed tone to Iran notwithstanding, his administration frequently emphasizes that it is preserving the option to bomb that country, too -- which could be a third war against a Muslim country fought simultaneously under his watch. He's worked tirelessly to protect his country not only from accountability -- but also transparency -- for the last eight years of war crimes, almost certainly violating America's treaty obligations in the process. And he is currently presiding over an expansion of the legal black hole at Bagram while aggressively demanding the right to abduct people from around the world, ship them there, and then imprison them indefinitely with no rights of any kind.

BREAKING NEWS:

This just in!!!

Obama watches a college football game and wins the Heisman Trophy !!!

#52 is actually funny

I don't see how Obama being given an award he in no way deserved is a reflection on him. He didn't ask for it.

That said, those who defend him getting this award are on par with those blasting him over it when it comes to partisan stupidity.

R'tard humor. Kinda like the dry, Brit humor. Only not quite as good...

Awarding Obama the Nobel Peace Prize - in spite of the fact that the deadline for nominations was February 1, 10 days into Obama's Administration - constitutes a transparent attempt by European politicians to bolster Obama's determination in the global arena and improve his standing in the domestic arena. While Obama's stock has risen internationally, it has deteriorated internally, in light of his lack of success in the areas of unemployment, taxes, budget deficit, health insurance reform, Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, Russia and al-Qaeda.

obama to watch super bowl, awarded super bowl ring, because he might.

This just in!!

Obama fails to win Nobel prize in economics

While few observers think Obama has done anything for world peace in the nearly nine months he's been in office, the same clearly can't be said for economics.

The president has worked tirelessly since even before his inauguration to wrest control of the U.S. economy from failed free markets, and the evil CEOs who profit from them, and to turn it over to wise, fair and benevolent bureaucrats.

From his $787 billion stimulus package, to the cap-and-trade bill, to the seizures of General Motors and Chrysler, to the undead health-care "reform" act, Obama has dominated the U.S., and therefore the global, economy as few figures have in recent years.

Yet the Nobel panel chose instead to award the prize to two obscure academics -- Elinor Ostrom and Oliver Williamson -- one noted for her work on managing collective resources, and the other for his work on transaction costs. See full story on the Nobel winners.

Other surprise losers include celebrity noneconomist and filmmaker Michael Moore; U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner; and Larry Summers, head of the U.S. national economic council.

It is unclear whether the president will now refuse his peace prize in protest against the obvious slight to his real achievements this year.

And that right wing commie NYT has a negative mention!!!

Dems..

"If you aren't fawning over our new Nobel Peace Prize winner you're in the same bed with Islamic goons who kill innocents in Israel by lobbing rockets their way, and you're supportive of the Taliban's brutal efforts in Afghanistan."
