Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R.-Ohio) made the staggeringly false claim that he hasn't heard from anyone who supports the public option for health care reform. "I'm still trying to find the first American to talk to who's in favor of the public option, other than a member of Congress or the administration," Boehner said.

"Boehner spokesman Michael Steel responded in a statement to the Huffington Post: "Obviously, Boehner was glad to hear Ms. Nelson's concerns, and hopes his response convinced her of the dangers of a government takeover of health care.""

Yeah, he responded, but he musta forgot real quick. You know, since he can't find anyone who supports the public option.

Wotta maroon.

(No, I'm not willing to extend to some conclusion that a majority supports such a thing. But if you say none, you really should mean none. Maybe Boehner should hang out here on DR--we can share our broad brushes.)

He'll hear from a few after making this statement. What is it about D.C. that makes relatively competent people go all stupid in a matter of months?

Oh. I have to put John Boehner and Joe Labeya in the same sentence.

Carry on.

LIAR!!!!!!! He is a liar's lier.

Larry

this guy should be kicked out of office on the spot.
His constituents should just walk up to hisoffice and kick his lying, stupid ass out.

I think that the 'hate every Administration proposal and demonize it to death" policy of the GOP has left them way out on a limb and many want to out Rush each other. It gives the minority party a unity of purpose without all the bother of substance and content of proposal and actual legislative work.

The GOP has pulled a Sarah Palin and has quit on the American people like a cranky 2 year old who really needs a nap.

If they want to live in a world where their leadership actually gets up in public and on the record and says tat HE HAS NOT MET EVEN ONE PERSON WHO SUPPORTS PUBLIC OPTION fer cryin out loud, it reflects a cloistered confinement a nun would rebel at. Is Bohner a bubble boy of his own design?
Sure looks that way.

It is so much easier to stand by and deny that anybody in America wants public option than it is to make legislation. This 100% contrarian performance of the minority party is a deriliction of duty, and a perversion of the constitutional design of a working functioning Congress. Do these guys actually get paid as much as real legislators?

What do we want? - Free health care!

When do we want it? - Now!

The American people have spoken - does representative
Boner not have ears with which to listen? LOL.

Be Well.

To think that this is the Leader of the Republican Party in Congress is all one has to know about the direction this once viable Party is going....Boehner is a Moron an a fucking idiot, well what should we expect from this Party. Just Pathetic...Fucker a LIAR also!!!!

Personally, if these people are serious about their opposition to affordable health care, they can prove it by refusing to participate in the Federal Government public option health care plan. Let them enter the private market place and fend for themselves just like the rest of us peons. Let them find out what it is like to watch a grown child be unable to find a health insurance plan because she has asthma. Let them worry about what the next attack will be like and if the parents will have to pay a humongous hospital bill because their child can't breathe. Then they can talk to me about affordable health care and public options. Until then they can just shut the H*** up.

Republicans are revolting.

Thtats the thing that gets me the most, Dawn. They give themselves world class healthcare with our money, then bitch and moan about providing it to anyone else. Constituents in districts where lawmakers are against the puplic option should be calling for them to put their money where there mouths are.

instead of their mouths where their money is.

instead of their mouths where their money is.

Slight correction....
"their mouths where the PUBLIC'S money is-or-where the Lobbyist's money is otherwise."

This is thing that bugs me about the whole thing.
The rtards keep SAYIN' it's "our" money-yet-WE don't get to tell them where and how we want it spent?

Yet-THEY get ALL of their shit covered-at Taxpayer(OUR) expense...

what he meant to say was that no one in the HMO industry supports the public option.

Nobody supports the public option because even the lazy fucks who don't work and get the public option will complain when they find out that they have to pay 10 bucks a month for their free insurance. That's money that could buy a hit of crack.

That's money that could buy a hit of crack.

The Public Option is dead. The point is moot.

Was Boner crying alligator tears as he said it?

LOL

Lemme think, when was the last Boehner was sober?

He really needs to find that AA meeting in the basement of the capitol.

...last time...

Boehner also probably doesn't know anybody who doesn't have the kind of public health coverage he has, either. He is shameful in his hypocrisy, but what do you except from the Hypocrisy Party?

Hypocritublican Party.

Boehner doesn't hear from anybody who supports it because they know it would be a waste of time asking him for support.

I was asked to send letters supporting healthcare reform to our wonderful Texas Senators Hutchison and Cornyn. I did so but I know it's the last thing they would ever do as they are so beholden to(aka bribed by) the healthcare industry.

I sent one to my wonderful congressman Pete Sessions too who I have the misfortune to be represented by after some sleazy gerrymandering by the equally wonderful Tom DeLay. Asking Sessions for help on this is even more fultile than asking Hutchison and Cornyn. He is the quintessential corporate tool.

Ya, I read this the other day too. A large majority of his own constituents favor a public option. He needs to get out more. Hanging out with cronies who parrot the GOP party line isn't representing his constituents. Maybe they'll can his ass next year. It'd serve him right.

I think what he is trying to say is that it is UN-American to want a public option. You cannot consider yourself an American and want more gov't run programs that will fail miserably!

Sure. People on Medicaid or in the VA system just HATE it. Uh, huh.

Go Connies!!

I love it when people keep saying the public option is dead. Are any of you who are making that claim actually members of Congress? Didn't think so. There's just no way to know until it's done. We are mere citizens.

What's sad here is the lack of any really intelligent comments about this story.

First of all for those who think the Republicans are all idiots, take a look at the other side of the aisle. The Democrats are just as bad. Here they are trying to push this bill down our throats with no debate. When the Republicans present an amendment to the bill it's canned before it ever leaves the commitee so the rest of the members never get a chance to vote on it and the people never hear about it because the press is so one sided in favor of the democrats.

Secondly, the "Public option" is designed to create a single payer health care system which no one in their right mind should want. All of the horror stories that you hear about government run health care will come to pass it we go down that road and the frightening thing about it is that it will almost impossible to turn back once we go there.
This is not something that needs to be done this year. It needs real debate and it needs to have BOTH sides in the process. But most importantly it needs to be done truthfully without the lies that are coming from both sides of the debate (if you can call it a debate!).

I think what he is trying to say is that it is UN-American to want a public option. You cannot consider yourself an American and want more gov't run programs that will fail miserably!

It's UNAMERICAN says the poster who HATES well over half of Americans......and apparently also HATES the US Govt as well.....

????

Real debate, Berthling? Real debate? Based on what? "Facts" like single-payer is bad? Funny stuff. Have you done research on other systems, talked to people in other countries? From what I hear, the Republican critical stories are limited and/or wrong.

As for debate, the Republicans aren't interested in that, either. They will vote no on any serious reform bill. They've proven their en bloc voting selves throughout this session. But then, the Dems aren't any better--or rather, we can't push this through either. There are Dems who aren't listening and who just want what they want (like Woody Allen and the heart).

There's plenty of guilt to be shared. But other than "We have a crisis!" and the number of uninsured, I haven't heard Democratic alarmism of the "They're gonna kill your grandmother!" kind.

"I haven't heard Democratic alarmism of the "They're gonna kill your grandmother!" kind." - PRAG

We heard plenty of that from Dems back when Reps ran the show. The reason we don't hear that sharp tone from Dems is that their guy is POTUS and their side runs both houses of Congress. So plans put forth for actual voting (unlike minority party stuff which doesn't get a floor vote) stem from Dems' own party.

How politically smart would it be to publicly berate your own POTUS's wishes, especially during the first year of his potential first term?

Of course he's never met anyone in favor of the Public Option. How could he when he's stuck so deep in the pockets of the 'insurance Syndicate, racket, mob, etc.' he might as well be the inside lining!

The way Boehner keeps jerking his boner-he's gonna have a SERIOUS muscle sprain down there REAL soon...

I mean in combatting the Republican machine, silly. Or in putting forth their own ideas.

And what exact alarmism about Republicans wanting to kill grandmothers etc. did you hear when President Bush was in power? Sure, Blood for Oil, etc. But then again, I didn't hear that stuff from official Dem sources, or not as much of the negative as I feel I'm hearing now from Republicans. But maybe I misremember.

Again, there's plenty of guilt to go around.

frank55 said Boehner/boner.

I've never heard that one before. Isn't he funny?

If what Bonehead Boehner says is true then apparently he is not opening his mail or answering the phone. So, what does he do all day? Nothing? Cruise the net for kiddie porn? Read the sports page? The guy is a joke and the right can't even figure that out.

Who put you in charge of defining how much Govt makes one 'American' or not?

BTW, Please keep attacking with the 'We're the Real Americans' argument that Sara Palin kept excreting. It really works well........for the Democrats.

Thank you!

All this cryin about Republicans and the Public Option. 60 Dem votes in the Senate ...you guys need to look at yourselves. If the Rebumblikins had 60 votes they would get what they want done ...See (end of analog tv, Change of daylight savings) those are two epic changes for our society lol

The Public Option is just a giant leap to a Single Payer system and eveyone knows that. Those who are in favor of it and those against it all know that.

"The Public Option is just a giant leap to a Single Payer system and eveyone knows that. Those who are in favor of it and those against it all know that."

Yeah, cuz that's what happened in France and Germany. What? Somehow they have both a public option and private health care insurance for those who want it??? Golly gee whiz, there goes another perfectly good talking point down the drain.

I would say it's more of a baby step, but essentially I agree with BPH.

Because 40% of Americans (and probably a majority in a few years when the Boomers start their die-off) are already covered under a Public Option is why I say it's a baby step.

(Though I don't actually have a source for that 40%, it's just something I read here I think.)

France and Germany... Somehow they have both a public option and private health care insurance for those who want it???

More like "those who can afford it" but Danni's point is valid.

"Though I don't actually have a source for that 40%, it's just something I read here I think."

That may have been from me. I've heard it repeated several times by Congressman Anthony Weiner, from NY's 9th district. He was referring to the combined groups of Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, government employees, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

As a clarification, I don't recall if he said 40% of Americans, or 40% of the insured. Since the latter would be less, I've been using that phrase.

"the staggeringly false claim"

How does one deal with those who are undeterred by being disproven?

How does one deal with those who are undeterred by being disproven?

Good question. The best I've been able to come up with is: keep leading them to water, maybe someday they'll drink. Doesn't seem to be working though.

This blog is a testament to the triumph of ideology over reason.

Sarcasm doesn't always translate in print, but i think i picked it up.

The contract ON American, repug congress began (and ended) in 1994 and they did what? Focused on the terrorists who bombed WTC in FEB 93? Nope. Stopped ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION? Nope. Fixed healthcare so All Americans would have it? Nope.

They spent $70 million harrassing our own president. Much as the repugs are doing today.

The 1994 election also marked the end of the Conservative Coalition, a bipartisan coalition of conservative Republicans and Democrats (often referred to as "boll weevil Democrats" for their association with the U.S. South), which had often managed to control Congressional outcomes since the New Deal era.
[edit]Subsequent events

In the 1996, 1998, and 2000 elections, Republicans lost Congressional seats but still retained control of the House and, more narrowly, the Senate. After the 2000 election, the Senate was divided evenly between the parties, with Republicans retaining the right to organize the Senate due to the election of Dick Cheney as Vice President and ex officio presiding officer of the Senate.

peace back at u darkstar.....

(1st dead show was Cinci 73)

so he says no one supports it.

isnt that like the lie from the white house about beck lying about the canadian city inthe hole about the olympics...the info is right but he just said the wrong city name..

so if you are holding him to this...NO ONE meaning really not one person..
you had better be carefull of what you wish for

AFK

Whatsamatta, are you sad that crybaby becky has been outed as being an entertainer using vicks to elicit tears to sway your favor?

LMFAO

I see you posting the same sad bullshit about becky on other threads.

Again, start a thread, post your info with a link to a CREDIBLE source......

If you know what a CREDIBLE source is......LOL

"so if you are holding him to this...NO ONE meaning really not one person.."

I don't get it. I know a fair number of people in support of a public option. Even if he meant, "Well, there aren't many," he surely has to define his terms better. But whatever. The vote will happen, and we will see. At this point, I submit that it's mostly out of our hands. Well, we can call our congresspersons...

Republicans are revolting.

Yes, we are.

Where does the Republican party continue to find ignorant condescending assholes like this one?

A vain bronze tanning GOD full of himself on top of it.

What an ASS !!

'Real debate, Berthling? Real debate? Based on what? "Facts" like single-payer is bad? Funny stuff. Have you done research on other systems, talked to people in other countries? From what I hear, the Republican critical stories are limited and/or wrong.'

The reason that we don't have a real debate is that the dems are trying to shorten the debate by ramming this through congress ASAP. The White House and congress don't want a real debate as they know that despite what they say, most americans don't want the kind of reform that they propose. The public option is designed to produce a single-payer system but it won't happen overnight, it will take several years to happen, but by then it will be too late too turn back.

Also, I'm amused by the statements that the Republicans and conservatives are the only ones using "scare tactics" as it's been shown that Obama has used "mistated facts" (some call these lies) in his speaches to frighten Americans. I've never seen a president that has lied (yes, lied!) as much as Obama has. This is not just my opinion, his lies are backed up by facts, buy no one in the main stream media seems to note them most of the time. He does a dishonor to the office almost every time he gives a speach and yet those with the power to point this out simply ignore it!

We'll NEVER have a real debate until both sides stop the lies and distortions...

I'm not going to hold my breath however.
