2016 Olympics Go to Rio

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee announced Friday. This is the first time South America will host an Olympics event. Rio bested Madrid, Spain, Chicago and Tokyo.

First...Chicago lost it on it's own..crime, etc.. and, do not think that they would have pulled it off unless 'Big O' decided stimulus money at the Olympics would pick economy up..!!!

Not since Neville Chamberlain has a World leader had less of an understanding of the fundamentals of World politics. It's simple. Countries are like dogs. Wars occur when the pecking order is not clearly established. After 9 months of apologizing, our President has now taken up unsuccessful begging! Unlike many conservatives, I was glad to see Obama go before the Olympic Committee. I didn't think in a million years he would be dumb enough to go with out KNOWING he'd win. While unprecedented, a rubber stamp speech would have been fine. For the person with what use to be the most powerful position in the World to go before a piss-ant committee and come in LAST place is a global embarrassment. While liberals may not see it this way, in the Machismo mindset that governs most of Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa and the entire Middle East, such a failing will lose us more respect than Bush's inability to find weapons of mass destruction. War is likely.

Of course Liberals will say that there are MORE SCHOOLCHILDREN then there are soldiers so soldiers are 10 times more likely to be killed then schoolchildren...
But they ignore the point that schoolchildren ARE NOT SOLDIERS. They are not going into armed encampments, getting blown up by mines, etc. They are kids going to school to learn to read and write. But in Chicago, they are not issued helmets and body armor... though they should be,
In the 2006-2007 school year 34 kids were killed in Chicago schools.

SO FAR in 2009, 27 have been killed. So it looks like with only 2/3 of the school year completed, the potential death toll in Chicago schools could reach over 40 in 2009. That is a 20% increase in school deaths in only two years.

Now if Daley would spend more time doing what Mayors are supposed to do, Protect and Defend the citizens of the city and less time traveling around the world trying to get the Olympics here then maybe less children would be getting killed and more will be learning to read and write.

But don't hold your breath too long...

It's really quite simple... I think the international community wanted Obama to be President because they new it would make for a weaker United States. Otherwise... if he's so "wonderful"... if the world "loves us now"... why not honor America's first black President who's apologizing for America's "transgressions"?

It is just disapointing with the loss of hope in Obama. There was just such a chance to get things done with his charm. We have lost hope for help in Iran, Afghanstan, Gitmo, and now the Olympics. I tend to see anyone who runs for Office that way. Actually, they are pretty much requirements to even try and run for office. Being a chicagoan, I'm extatic we didn't get the games, Our taxes are already ridiculous and the money that would go to the olympics is needed much more in other areas.

I work for a company that backed the bid and because of it we threw millions into it. And it's simply baffling when you see the person next to you one minute and the next they're taken down to HR because they're "cutting back" and in another department 125 more people because that department is being outsourced to india and poland. So to whomever said the economy is getting better because higher ups are being hired, no its not getting better for us when they're sending the jobs to other countries because its cheaper so the higher ups can make more money. and this Olympic bid took another few 100 jobs! We are an extraordinarly naive greedy country who does things half a** backwards.

After Obama's widely popular Special Olympic joke back in March on the Jay Leno Show, he's been full steam ahead to bring the games to Chicago. Obama and a group of about 50 really 'special' kids will take Air Force One to Copenhagen later this week to show his support for games.

Air Force One has been undergoing severe modifications in preparations to the trip. White House staffers have reported that all seats have been coated with special booger resistant covers and drool cups on each individual armrest. President Obama explained, "I'm excited to hang out with these great kids on our 10 hour flight to Denmark. It'll give me a chance to inform them about important issues in America and how literally anyone can become President."

President Obama also had this to say;

"Are the cameras still on? Okay, good. Honestly, what will I do the entire flight? I'm going to lock myself in my bedroom. As far as anyone becoming President of the United States? Sure, I'll be happy to tell that them....right after I tell them that they'd better learn how not to act like 'tards all of the time. Give me a break. I'm just trying to take attention off of healthcare reform. I've asked Vice President Biden to ride shotgun with them the entire trip. They'll easily relate to him. Have you seen that one kid with the huge lip? I'm not going near him! Wait, are the cameras are still on? Well, this is off the record."

The White House has confirmed that Vice President Biden is equipped with a complete stash of balloons and fart jokes to entertain the mentally challenged on board during the flight. Biden said

"I look forward to sharing some of my hilarious fart and cootie jokes. It'll be a nice change of pace considering Rham [Emanual] and David [Axelrod] never want to hear them. I'm excited to be around a group of people that I can legitimately relate to. If the 'special' kids are good, I've promised them a big 'special' pizza party at the White House."

President Obama responded,

The POTUS is surrounded with supposedly capable people to execute things. There is simply too much job there for one man to do it all, so he delegates.

Rio got the games because of a years-long effort by their president, and because South America has never hosted an Olympics Games.

Their economy dwarfs all other South American countries. Their GDP shows about a 5% growth rate. I have little doubt that this being the first Olympics help in South America certainly made a big impression. Roads are crap, but the airports are quite good. Power's not a problem nor is telecommunications infrastructure.

It's a curious question given the history of the Olympics and the locations they've been held.
