Texas Court Will Hear Gay Divorce Case

A judge in Dallas ruled on Thursday that the state court on which she sits has the jurisdiction to hear a divorce suit by a gay couple who were married outside Texas.

Well, regardless of the intent of this thread, it will devolve in to gay bashing...Which is pretty much how every other thread goes anyway.

this is outrageous. i believe marriage is a holy thing. on the last day of this month i will marry my true love, a darling quiet thing with long silver hair, a lovely permanent smile and a dry sense of humor located in row 6 section 7 of the shady rest memorial park.

the services will be performed at an undisclosed location. we will be honeymooning at the hotel california.

in our prenuptual agreement, we agreed that in case of a divorce, she would be solely responsible for the reinterrment fees.

The cynic in me wonders whether or not this might have been planned all along: get married in another state that recognizes gay marriages, return to a state that doesn't allow them, and file for divorce. By agreeing to even hear the divorce case, the court implies that the marriage is valid.

Actually, I'm wondering if these two will be outspoken critics of gay marriage after the court finishes raking them over the coals taking half of their stuff and taking their money for lawyers to arbitrate a divorce.

I've been married, (to a woman,) for 6 years now. We've been together for over 10 years. I'm only 28. I love my wife. People who get married only to divorce sure waste a lot of time and money.

No, 101chair. I will personally devolve it into lawyer-bashing and leave the gays out of this.
I have always thought the entire gay rights movement was a lawyer-created pseudo-movement to create more work for attorneys. Given the astonishingly high turnover rate in male gay relationships (not female gays as a rule) the attorneys see money to be made.
When a gay couple says they want to marry, I smile and say to them exactly what I say to straight couples who tell me that: "Are you outta your f#cking minds???"
Actually, I tell them to consider the legal ramifications because the lawyers have made even a sneeze a federal case these days.
