Terror Suspect Hoped to Destroy Dallas Skyscraper

Before his arrest Thursday, a 19-year-old Jordanian, Hosam Maher Husein Smadi, recently tried to detonate a fake car bomb given to him by undercover agents at the base of the Fountain Place skyscraper in Dallas. Smadi, who came to the attention of authorities through comments on an extremist web site, allegedly told them, "God willing, the strike will be certain and strong. It will shake the currently weak economy in the state and the American nation, because this bank is one of the largest banks in the city."

It's weird that the feds are giving fake bombs to wanna-be jihadists. But it's probably a good idea to test their willingness to commit mass terror attacks and cart them off to prison.

But if we're putting guys like this in our prison system and not cringing in fear, why can't we do the same for the detainees in Gitmo? Endless detention without charge is a stain on our Constitution.

They just did the same thing in Illinois, some moron tried to detonate a fake car bomb in Springfield. The obvious defense is entrapment, but I'm hoping they've planned around that.

Throughout the investigation, undercover FBI agents repeatedly encouraged Smadi to reevaluate his interpretation of Jihad, counseling him that the obligations a Moslem has to perform Jihad can be satisfied in many ways. Every time this interaction occurred, Smadi aggressively responded that he was going to commit significant, conspicuous acts of violence as his Jihad.

I have to brag on my cousin now, though. For three years she was chosen by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the top 100 lawyers in Texas. I just found out last week that Business Report Magazine has chosen her in their (not sure of the number -- I think 100) best lawyers in the US. The report is to be out in February.

It was not coincidence that they were busted on the same day.

If one were arrested a day apart--they might not have gotten both of them.

At least people who are traveling the subways are a little safer for the time being.
