Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Give President Obama credit for persistence. And stubbornness. And lack of imagination. He declared again last week that his health care plan "will slow the growth of health care costs for our families and our businesses and our government." And this historic achievement will be accompanied by a dazzling array of new medical benefits that everyone will receive--guaranteed by law. Okay, you've heard this before. But that's the president's story, and he's sticking to it.

Obama never said that there would be free health care. He says that the cost of health care needs to be lowered. Is he wrong? The costs need to go up?

It can be done. Americans spend around twice as much on health care per capita compared to other countries, and the most as a percentage of GDP. The US health care system is being abused. Clean it up.

What about the "defence" budget? It's almost as much as all other countries combined. Affordable health care isn't too hard. You just have to want it.

No one ever said there was free healthcare....it is just you neorightycons who keep trying to place that on the party of not your choice.

You guys are the real dumbasses

In a related issue:

Lack of health care does not save you money.

Obama never said that there would be free health care

You need to read the article.. what Obama has said incessantly is that he's going to cover more people and increase benefits, all at a lower cost..

That arithmetic just doesn't work, and you (or any leftie) don't believe it any more than than I do.

And fortunately, the more he runs around saying it, the more obvious the absurdity. So help us on the right out.. keep claiming that Obamacare will lower costs..

"Does he think we're stupid?"

I think the American people tend to be pig-headed, verging on self-imposed stupidity.

Does the health care system need to be reformed? Yes.

Does the US spend more per capita on health care services than most other industrialized nations? Yes.

Does the US have a higher percentage of its population uninsured, for whatever reason, than most other industrialized nations? Yes.

Does the US health care industry place unreasonable restrictions on basic and normal health care services, such as, for example, denying health insurance to people with what are termed pre-existing conditions or being a woman of child bearing age? Yes.

Does the high and increasing cost of health care premiums pretty much put purchasing out of reach for those on the bottom tiers of wage earners or the multitude of small business owners? Yes.

But the vitriol and hate towards any type of reform that the government may put forth simply because it is being driven by the government simply blinds far too many to the reality.

Despite the rantings, fact remains that there is a problem that needs to be resolved. Doing nothing does not resolve the problem. But nothing is what is being done, except of course, blocking any reform whatsoever, which is worse than nothing.

Do not think Obama is acting in a benevolent manner towards Americans in need. Medicare, Medicaid and regulations drove up health care costs to where they are increasingly unnaffordable. It's compounded by rising unemployment and an aging population. This adds up to a health care industry in trouble. The real goal of the Obama plan is to bail out the insurance companies with a new source of revenue: the healthy uninsured. This is following the path of the banking and auto bailouts.

The tragic irony is that the lefties who want this in the hope it will drive out the insurance companies, will only find themselves more dependent on the insurance companies they hate.

"Does he think we're stupid?"

Of course Obama does. He was voted into office, wasn't he?

Who said health care was free?

The question is, why? Does he think we're stupid?

.......you are certainly making a good case for "stupid".......

......no one is saying healthcare is free, but it obvious that the present system is working against Americans.......

.....so whatever the ultimate mix of private/public options we will have, the system has to be made more functional......

.....and if you are having difficulty understanding that, then please refer to your question, and answer yourself in the affirmative....
