Though so many are hoping and praying that President Obama will fail he seems up to the task and conveys quiet confidence in answer to their hysterical and dishonest attacks and accusation.
At least he isn't starting wars and pushing through tax cuts at the same time. At least the money he is spending he isn't hiding off budget. At least he isn't telling Americans to just go shopping. We'll know whether or not he succeeds down the road but so far I am still glad we elected him. I can't think of anyone else I'd prefer in the oval office.

#8 what you perceive as anger is really sadness. time and again, it has been proven throughout human history that reliance on the state leads to chaos. when politics is reduced to people voting based on what they can convince the government can give to them - then the republic is lost.

we approach that threshold. social security is broke, and if i could've had the money i've spent on it, and invested it myself, i'd be a whole lot better off. i could've spent the money on things that would've created other jobs and opportunities for people. or, i could've saved it and it could be lent for others to use as capital investment.

instead, it was used by the government in inefficient and relatively meaningless ways. ditto for medicare and medicaid. ditto will be for the health industry. it's foolish to think that this will lead anywhere but to more governmental reliance, more taxes, and a very poorly run system.

our shine will necessarily dim. yes, obama didn't "torture" 3 guys by waterboarding them. what he has effectively done, however, is to inexorably point the us toward bankruptcy and a future of tyranny. that will be his legacy.

you revel in it to the point of not even linking to an article with a headline that suggests if you don't agree with what's going on, you are not patriotic. all from an admitted socialist? again, seek help.

I understand how the failures, lies and incompetence George W. Bush left you, and rightwingers like you, angry and disillusioned.

But separate out your anger and disillusionment. Set aside your bitterness. Be self-honest and recognize that it is not sadness you feel, but rather frustration that it is a member of the opposite Party which is bringing about all these necessary historic changes instead one of your own.

Well that's a very good point Crispee. No doubt for many rightwingers racism is an underlying cause of the anger. But I tend to look for the best in people. I tend to believe that it is not racism which motivates so many of you. Rather, it seems, much of the anger and bitterness is based on ignorance of all the good our society is in the process of gaining from the leadership of President Obama. In short, to give you guys the benefit of the doubt, I believe it is stupidity, not racism, which motivates your ranks.

Does that have to do with taxes, or the reality that Canada doesn't have "fame industries" the way the US does? You know, Hollywood is here, though they shoot in Canada an awful lot. (That said, Gene Simmons, not Canadian, has a home in Canada with his wife, who is Canadian. I forget her name.)

The spending thing is a huge problem and has the potential to severely affect the quality of life of every American negatively. IMO, that by far outweighs anything Obama has done. He needs to understand the financial position we are in and soon before he causes problems that he's not going to be able to fix such as massive inflation.

Well, Moder8 comes out as a full on retard. Tell me, since we apparently aren't spending money on the Iraq War anymore, when did it end?

Given where we've been the past year or two, indeed the past 8 years, I agree that there is plenty of room for optimism.

I don't believe that the fringe crap seen so frequently on the net and in net blogs, will have a significant role for very many years to come. I don't believe we will implode economically or politically, though our decline from the top is not only inevitable but already under way.

My biggest concern, and the reason I'm short on optimism, is that the people of this country are becoming increasingly partisan. Seeing those who disagree with them as enemies rather than opponents. And this can extremely easily lead to a cultural implosion which will then move to the political and economic spheres. If this occurs, even Pakistan will then be a more viable and stable country than ours.

Stats indicate that our IQ keeps increasing. Highly suspect, given that our stupidity index keeps climbing. And that out disdain for logic has surpassed our analytic skills.

Those hollering "socialism" loudest in these parts surely lack even a glimmer of what socialism is. To them, anything considering the less fortunate is to the left of Karl Marx, but they're wrong. Civilized nations employing minimal concern for the non-rich pass us further in all aspects of social development each day.

What this country needs is a bigger, stronger dose of that system, and that dastardly pinko commie red we elected to the White House continues to woo is biggest - and incurable - detractors by not giving it to us. herm
