Tea Party Protesters Protest D.C. Metro Service

Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn't, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend's rally to protest government spending and government services.

We prepared for 2.5 million protesters, like Glenn Beck said, but only 65,000 showed up.

Socialists never make the trains run on time.

There were over a million there.. and the transit authority was given notice that a large group would come.

I don't think that's a left/right issue at all... just another example of bureaucratic inefficiency. But, the congressman is right to ask the question.. wouldn't have mattered if it was a bra burning protest.. the transit authority should prepare for it.

Why would lefties (or righties) not want a service like transit to work as efficiently as possible?

Showing your age here. They haven't been called DC Transit in roughly 2 decades.

Now they're WMATA or Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The trains have been operated manually (slow) since that fatal accident a few months ago. Also they've been working on the tracks on weekends too causing some trains in both directions to share a single track.

I doubt that WMATA even knew about the protest since their primary source of news is probably the Washington Post.

"Why would lefties (or righties) not want a service like transit to work as efficiently as possible?"

Yes, but complaining about the lack of services on your way to advocate for the termination of said services is beyond belief --- but becoming more an more typical of these nonsensical cretins!

Not sure what you're referring to.. is this congressman trying to shut down the Washington transit?

"There were over a million there"

305,000,000/1,000,000 = 0.33%

It's a Mandate (blink, blink)!

"There were over a million there.. "

Yeah, Glennn Beck says 1.7 million.
And he knows because some people at the University of I Don't Remember told him so.

"Not sure what you're referring to"

Umm, yes, abolishment of Public Transit has Long been a Mainstay of "republican" Mantra!
Did you forget?

If you tell the truth about the Million Man March they call you a racist

"Umm, yes, abolishment of Public Transit has Long been a Mainstay of "republican" Mantra!
Did you forget?"

Sure, Red. We conservatives just LOOooove dirty water, polluted air, starving children and homeless old folks. Why in hell would we prefer public transit. Fuck you...WALK your shiftless ass down to the welfare office.

"Now they're WMATA or Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority."

It's like calling NYC's 6th Avenue "Avenue of the Americas." In fact, it's never been called the "D.C. Transit Authority," that's just a term of convenience I recall hearing there.

Anyway, it's more commonly known as the Metro.

"We conservatives just LOOooove dirty water"

Umm, I haven't seen a real "conservative" in some time. Where are they, and why by-god do you keep them hidden away?

Umm, yes, abolishment of Public Transit has Long been a Mainstay of "republican" Mantra!

Well, that's interesting because I'm a republican, active in the party, attend the meetings, give money, and I can't recall even once anyone trying to shut down public transit.

I know in some areas responsible people have questioned the cost vs the benefit, because most of us are in favor of fiscal responsibility (GWB nothwithstanding) and I am for phasing out AMtrak but that'sbecause I'm in favor of developing high speed rail, and Amtrak is the primary impediment to that... (and from a cost standpoint.. it would be cheaper for the taxpayers to just give everyone on Amtrak an airplane ticket for free) But I'm not opposed to public transit overall..

Seriously.. maybe you should wander off the far left ranch once in a while .. you might find it interesting .. Surely you don't think wasting public money for no discernible benefit is a good idea.. do you?

Senator 'Happy' to Block Metro Funding
WASHINGTON -- Worn-out and run down, the Metro system is in disrepair. The transit agency's financial troubles are well documented, with nearly $500 million needed to fix a list of "urgent unfunded needs" -- everything from crumbling platforms to frail track fasteners that are supposed to keep rail lines in place.

But as Metro looks toward Capitol Hill for help, one major roadblock is standing in the way: Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla

I'm happy to be a roadblock to that bill," Coburn tells WTOP. "It's $1.5 billion they want, we (the government) don't have the money to pay for it, so where are we going to get the money?"

Coburn doesn't think one penny of funding for Metro should come from American taxpayers.

"How dare us say we are going to steal opportunity from our children so that we can have a ride on the Metro. I think the vast majority of Americans would disagree with that."

But hey, let's not distract ourselves from the Hilarity of Anti-Government Teabaggers taking Public Transit (i.e. government transportation) to their anti-government "Protest"!

It's Priceless!

New Protest outfit = $250.00
Misspelled Racist sign = $1.00
A unproductive day Wasted with Idiots = invaluable

Taking Government Transportation to an Anti-Government Rally ---- Then Complaining about it = Priceless!

My guess is that the Metro just couldn't afford the overtime pay necessary for extra staffing. And I doubt they provide extra trains for ANY demonstrations.

We should just be thankful when anything in DC works properly at all.

Maybe Metro's administration was like the vast majority of Americans and didn't give a crap about a gang tea-bagging.
