Jesus is extremely important in islam.
The difference is we don't have "original sin"
We don't need saving in the sense that christians do.
And we don't believe he is divine, ie the only begotten son of God.
We do have the virgin birth. We attribute miracles that even the bible doesn't have to him. His name is mentioned more then any other prophet. His mother has a chapter named after her.
Her parents sound like dumb hicks who if they knew Islam would have taught her islam better. They probably haven't read the koran on their own and have let others tell them what islam is.

She went from a faith with a concept of an abstract God whose being is outside the realm of understanding of the human mind. Ie makes the universe's size look like a grain of sand in comparison to God's size and complexity to a simple Man God formula.
Adam sinned and all men are born sinners in the bible. Without the cruci-fiction even babies go to hell?
Original sin makes God a hateful entity and his Man God the savior.
One thing I admit. Christians have found to love better then muslims in the modern era. Especially the last 30 years or so.
But that is not a religious thing as far as I can see but a cultural thing brought on by an extremely tortured post inquisition culture.
Islam never had an inquisition like mentality until recently and I hope we learn that love, sooner then later.
It didn't stop britain from chemically castrating alan turing from being gay in the modern era.
