Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

With the country held in limbo wondering who will take over the presidency from George Bush, it's interesting to look around and see how things have changed. We are a country that is now used to war again. A great deal of us still don't like it, but it is a reality we all are facing.

And then she opened her mouth...

Ooops

"And then she opened her mouth..."

And spoke the truth.

The Dixie Chicks especially Nattalie Maines are the real patriots. They dared to speak out when their Country needed them to. They did not cower in a corner and remain silent.

And spoke the truth.

She said she was ashamed that Bush was from Texas...

That's all.

It was a joke.

People are funny about their country.

It was kinda stupid for them to say this in another country at a time like that.

I feel sorry for her, because after all these years, I realize she really didn't mean it. It was the time, the location and all that was happening.

Eddie:

HUH?? It was a joke??

Have you heard her speak about her comment??

How do you know if she meant it or not???

Good grief!

Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
They say time heals everything
But I'm still waiting

I'm through with doubt
There's nothing left for me to figure out
I've paid a price
And I'll keep paying

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

I know you said
Can't you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind of like it

I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don't mind sayin'
It's a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
Daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Sayin' that I better shut up and sing
Or my life will be over

I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and
I don't have time to go round and round and round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should

uh... She apologized twice.

"She said she was ashamed that Bush was from Texas..."

Bush is from Connecticut.

Larry:

I heard her speak about that comment.

There was no joking around.

Eddie tries in vain to make light of the Bush era.

Thank God it's over!

THAT DON'T SOUND LIKE SHE WAS JOKING DO YOU????

#7 | Posted by LarryMohr

LOL!!

I love this.

After they apologized.. twice. Their record sales still didn't pick up.

So they come out with this...

Nice try, there, Larry.

But, she was on the wrong end of the joke and their careers went down because of it.

People are funny that way.

Call it... The Market... I don't know.

You know? Maybe Obama should ask for a law to make people buy Dixie Chicks CDs!!!

Yeah!!!

AMEN Lisa AMEN on that.

Larry

Eddie tries in vain to make light of the Bush era.

Thank God it's over!

#10 | Posted by Lisa

How am I making light?

I'm pointing out that people, at that time, didn't take anything light.

Provide a link Eddie.

I never heard her apologize.

Lisa, In Vain?

You and Larry are arguing against the current here. Talk about in Vain.

You should pick your battles.

hahahahah

whatever!

Bush is from Connecticut.

#9 | Posted by Zatoichi

Nice try, Zat.

Let's see, where's he living now?

Not that I blame you for trying.

Provide a link Eddie.

I never heard her apologize.

#14 | Posted by Lisa

you're kidding, right?

Link? Look at the top of the page.

hahahahah

whatever!

#16 | Posted by Lisa

WOW!!!

you really think that this dumb bitch threw her career away because she was pissed off about Bush?

LOL.

"Let's see, where's he living now?"

North of the Brazos.

Almost Oklahoma.

He ain't from here, Goober.

LOL

Sorry Eddie.

I saw interviews with her and a special on TV.

She never apologized.

No quotes in the article about her apologizing nor are there quotes of her saying it was a joke.

I'd take the words out of her mouth over an article that she isn't quoted saying what the article claims.

The joke is on you, I'm afraid.

Hey, Eddie

Did you read the entire article? Or just the first page and a quarter?

"The biggest surprise came when the Chicks won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Album, Best Country Best Record and Best Song ("Not Ready to Make Nice." The album then rose to number 8 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the country album charts. "Not Ready to Make Nice" returned to the charts at number 4 on the Hot 100."

I was born in Oklahoma.

Almost Oklahoma.

Funny

threw her career away

If you are going to talk about the Chicks, you need to catch up with the times.

Their new album, made long after the infamous comment, is excellent and their careers are soaring as they move away from Country to Pop. They won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2007.

From their wikipedia page:

The group had sold 30.5 million albums in the United States through August 2009, making them the best-selling female group in the country... As of 2009, they have won 13 Grammy Awards, with 5 of them earned in 2007 including the coveted Grammy Award for Album of the Year for Taking The Long Way.

"I was born in Oklahoma."

That's nice.
It appears you escaped.

I was born in Frankfurt Germany since my dad was a part of of the Berlin Airlift Task force.

What's your point?

Sorry TB, you were posting while I was typing.

www.youtube.com

I hate country music. I spent 18 years hearing it because we could only pick up one station. I still have every dixie chicks cd and I listen to them often to piss off the dip shit red necks around here who've suddenly become concerned about government intrusion into our lives.

the "why are you listening to them" debates border on comic gold.

I'd take the words out of her mouth over an article that she isn't quoted saying what the article claims.

#22 | Posted by Lisa

nice try...

Again, do you really think that she threw her career away just so that she could say something like that?

Who else do you know did this?

I really don't care...

But you are passionate that you are right about her crusade, so more power to you.

The people (who buy her CDs) are on my side, BTW.

Your on her side and that's really sweet.

I have no point Zat.

Just offered a bit of useless trivia.

I was born at an army base.

Useless trivia #2

Frankfurt am main, to be exact; Frankfurt am Oder would be a rather dissonant conclusion but there are some rather fascinating cases of cognitive dissonance here.

I may get a PhD yet.

Alas, psych major prof has retired.

yeah, that organization is not swayed AT ALL by politics.

Nice try, though.

I am sweet Eddie...by the grace of God, sweet.

Never, ever forget it!! : )

Hey My Mom was born in Guthrie Oklahoma where bouts for You Lisa??

Oh! And Al Gore.

You do realize that one of them was pregnant and perhaps they are simply taking a break to raise children.

ZAT -

Re your #37 -

I'd love to be able to see the Terra Cotta soldier exhibit in Houston.

Tell me all about it when you get back.

Lawton, Ok, Larry.

Ok...

I'll let it go.

btw. see the documentary done about the group after the whole thing went down.

if she is apologetic, it doesn't show.

the reaction to her comment borders on insanity. it was pretty fucking dumb of her to say it, knowing how country fans are, and she should have known that it wouldn't just blow over.

That aside, I'm glad they didn't bombard their fan base with nonsense to save their country music careers. It really pisses me off when someone is so greedy that they'll sacrifice their values to keep the green stuff rolling in.

After all. By the time all this went down, they were already wealthy from their music and...get this shit...those cd's that people smashed...someone had to pay for them.

Fucking suckers.

Hell thats where My BFF lives. That's kewl Lisa.

Don't get excited Larry. I went back a couple of years ago because I hadn't been there since I was born.

I have renamed it Armpit, USA.

.those cd's that people smashed...someone had to pay for them.

THAT'S what's really bugging Eddie, he didn't think how much it cost him at the time.

Career's over

Yeah, they have only sold 30 million records.

They are really sucking wind all right.

"Tell me all about it when you get back."

If photography is allowed I will post pictures.

Hell thats where My BFF lives. That's kewl Lisa.

you're a grown man and you're using "best friends forever"?

Is your underwear bedazzled too, Shirley?

"30 million records"

Such failures.

;*)

What I hate about it Lisa is everything is soo run down and My G-d the Cops there are totally shitty. I mean My word Shitty doesn't cover it. It's like one big ole fuck fest and not the good kind either.

Larry

Oh Axiom, you don't Bedazzle undies.

Sitting on those rhinestones hurts!

And they leave imprints in your butt.

Don't ask how I know that.

I plead insanity Axiom.

Yea, Larry...OK is not someplace I ever care to return to.

"Bush is from Connecticut"

And it shames me everyday hahaha

I could have said He was My BFF like totally tubular dudette Ya know like for reals.

I have renamed it Armpit, USA.

Wisconsin?

"Wisconsin?"

Jealous?

Whatever Happened to the Dixie Chicks?

They suck. I think that opposing the war wasn't done out of principal, but in a cynical attempt to gain a lot of publicity.

Of course, the strategy failed.

"Wisconsin?"

Jealous?

No if I had to live in the upper Midwest ND, SD, IA and NE would be my choices. Hell even Minnesota is better than WI.

Have you been there, Gimme?

Up north is breathtakingly beautiful.

And..the Packers are there.

And...I lived there!

LOL

What happened to Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and soon Bruce Springstein?
Political crap is not art. Ask Yoko.

What happened to Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and soon Bruce Springstein?

Their careers are all doing quite well. Dylan's last two albums have been hits and anything Springsteen touches turns to gold. Joan is still performing and is still an activist.

Why do you righties think that a performer who makes a political statement kills their career?

Do they not play Bob or Bruce on Fox? I know they don't play Joan.

That must be it.

"They only had one album since the mishap.

That's it.

Career's over."

Poor Eddie, tried to start a DC bashing tread and he gets it turned around on him. Most persons still respect the words fromDC and what Natalie said. Even when country music stations colluded together in their right wing media bias to not play their music, they still rocketed to #1. FUTB was the funniest shit ever, except to Toby....

I wish my career was over like theirs, then I will get to makea movie as well.

The real question is why did you bring up this thread, which chick are you secretly in love wit( I bet she plays violin)?

LM

Never liked the Dixie Chicks, regardless of politics.

Country music is Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, etc.... with the crossover to Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley

It's a Memphis thang!

"Give me a white boy who sings like a negro, and I can make a million dollars."
--Col. Tom Parker

Just another example that you don't mix business and politics. Probably the first really public example though. The other ones are mainstream Media. Eventually they will all be in the same cesspool.

I believe they are still making money but they have basically gone the way of the FAT broad..whats her name..had a talk show...

and charlie sheen is in jeopardy of going the same route

The Dixie Chicks are still successful, but the giant corporations that own the country music stations stopped playing them when they criticized President Bush. Many of these radio networks are extremely cozy with Republican candidates. Connect the dots.

Maybe regular folks just didn't like their bullshit music, especially after spewing their bullshit opinions. I'd never been a fan, anyhoo.

Yep the God damned fuck weasels of the Republican Party don't believe in Free Speech until it's them speaking then they whine and cry if You don't allow them their Constitutional Rights and You had best not penalize them either. Fucking useless shits.

Larry

Saw them many years ago on 6th street in Austin TX. Great band. Liberal need to support the good they do. Fuck the evil republican singers. Support liberals when you can.

It's time they make another album. Pop music stations will play them. I bet they sell out a shitload of places.

Dixie Chicks kick ass.

Luff them gals.

Laws yes!

All controversy aside they got the skillz to pay the bills in terms of their singing and other musical talents.

Now they're bringing a much needed country sensibility to the pop world.

Spud sez It's a beautiful thing.

Be Well.

Aw, Tater, who knew all this time you were a good ol' Canadian country boy. : )

Aw, Tater, who knew all this time you were a good ol' Canadian country boy. : )

Thank the FSM Ima Country Boi!

Spud's musical taste are eclectic and have wandered far afield from country to rock to rap to pop to classical to opera to punk to bluegrass to jazz to prog to art rawk to techno to trance to house to world beat to Dread Zepplin and beyond.

But me Spuddish roots are old country tuneage.

Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Carl Perkins, Buck Owens.
Lorretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton.

Yeaaaaaa Haaaaaaaaw!

There's some good new country too, of course.

That noted Spud seems to like the more poppy country acts tho like the Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain.

Likee the fiddle music as well.

Be Well.

I believe that the majority of their fans (country) tend to be on the right, so they pissed of a lot of people who once bought their albums.

Boycotts can be a real B****.

Hank Williams Jr. is truly representative of Rtard nation.

"A country boy can survive" has been his rallying cry for decades, but as the singer has grown older, Williams has become more overtly political, more conservative and completely distrustful of most media.

"I listen to Laura Ingram and Mark Levin," he said. "It's the only place you'll hear the truth."

In 2008, he supported Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain's bid for the presidency. He appeared with McCain on the campaign trail, where he sang a revised version of his song "Family Tradition," called "A McCain-Palin Tradition." When the Republicans failed to retain the White House, Williams didn't take it well.

"If it wasn't for the Electoral College, Obama wouldn't be president," he said. "Let's face it. That's the problem right there."

sundaygazettemail.com

Seems as though Hank Jr. 'ain't real good' at math in light of the fact Obama won the popular vote by millions too.

They (the Dixie Chicks) are enjoying their wealth and living their lives, something most Americans aren't able to do at this moment.

I recently saw one of the sisters "Emily" at a local down-town Nashville music store and she seemed to be doing great.

Hank Jr. 'ain't real good' at math

About the only thing Hank Jr. has ever been real good at is drinking until he passes out.

He came by that naturally, but at least his daddy could sing.
