Census Finds Huge Drop in Household Income

The recession has slashed families' earnings, increased poverty and left more people without health insurance, according to the Census Bureau's annual snapshot of living standards. Median household income, adjusted for inflation, fell 3.6% last year to $50,303, the steepest year-over-year drop in forty years.

The economy started to slide in 2001, the housing bubble masked it but many realized it. I told you many times that the Great Bush Economy many right here used to brag about was smoke and mirrors which it did prove to be.

So inflation is going up faster than income, well thats no real change. It is interesting though if there are so many extra dollars income should be rising not falling. So where are the extra dollars going? Yep the gov is dumping them into the corp's which rather than raising employee pay is raising officer pay.

So the question comes how long will we Americans put up with being taxed so the government can give that money to CEO's? If we are sick of it how do we stop it?

Statistically, what affect does the unemployment rate have on this number? If unemployment was at an all time high, I would expect this number, the way it is calculated based upon the article, to fall as well even if wages for the employed rose.

What is the median wage for those employed? Is that falling?

It's the median income that is cited in the article, not the average income.

Wages for the middle and lower ranges have been stagnating or even decreasing over the last decade while the incomes of the top 5%, 1%, 1/10%,1/100%, etc, have been increasing at an incredible rate.

Did notice though that the top 5% incomes went up not down. Nope, that's not taxes, they worked harder.

Instead of these bailouts they should given the money to every adult American. Some people would just party away - say 400 grand - but others would have paid off their mortgages and bought new cars. But no, we had to save Wall Street and now the bankers are moving to Washington to be even closer to their benefactors.
