Humans cause pollution and consume resources. Environmental contamination and shortages of food, water, and energy are the threat to our species. Unchecked population growth exacerbates these problems. Look at China. Their massive population is already consuming more water than is replaced by rainfall. The country is an economic superpower because of massive industrial growth. That same growth is ravaging their environment.

It is irresponsible to bring ever-increasing numbers humans into this world when there ultimately aren't enough resources to sustain them. Even if the carrying capacity is not exceeded, overpopulation can strain economies and reduce the quality of life.

Do you want socialism? Do you want rationing of not just health care, but all resources? That is the end result of a society which demands more food, water, and energy than it can produce.Fewer humans can live in prosperity, whereas an ever-growing legion of them will ultimately be driven to live like animals.

Diablo's disdain for contraception and responsible family planning is understandable. To a religious fanatic, children are a new sets of ears ready to hear their parents' tired old fairy tales. The survival and prosperity of the species is irrelevant to a these morons. Survival of their ideology is paramount.

Demand for food is also a demand for the other resources that go into bringing that food from the earth to your mouth. Water (irrigation) and fossil fuels (for harvest, processing, transport, and power generation) are the biggest. Meat consumption also increases demand for animal feed.

If I were to smother someone to death with six billion grains of sand, it would be absurd to pick out one grain and claim that it alone was the murder weapon. An individual's actions, taken alone, are fairly inconsequential. A society's actions are not. Societies are composed of individuals, many of whom share cultural knowledge and similar patterns of behavior. Diablo is not the only idiot out there. There are millions to be concerned about. Three to six months would be acceptable. If some superstitious people find that idea distasteful, perhaps they would grace the rest of us with an explanation of why it is not better to simply prevent pregnancy in the first place. Then Jesus wouldn't have to cry for all those poor aborted babies.
