Why? Once again, the word "Messiah" is only stated by a rightwinger. None of the folks in the video made that leap. Only you did.

I challenge anyone to find one person who ran for the Office of President of the United States who didn't have a Messiah Complex.

A thirst for power does not equal having a messiah complex. It just means You want power and You aren't believing You are some God like creature.

A bunch of c-list celebs and a shit-ton of blacks and hispanics that nobody knows or ever cares to meet are showing themselves to be lemmings...This is par for the course, but the video is appreciated.

Shhhh...Don't tell that to Danforth.

Actually, I think Danforth was being a tad sarcastic and obstinate on this thread - just for fun.

Secondly, If that's the list you stole from some website, you were ripped off. What percentage of actors do you consider that to be? Yeah, I guess that kind of ruins all that work, huh.

Uh huh. I'll ask again, what percentage of actors does your unatributed cut and paste represent?
94% of blacks voted for Obama. That's lockstep. So, what percentage of actors do you figure your thievery represents?

Frank2.5 is too fucking stupid to comprehend Camille's work, nor is he aware of who she is...

NorthgayLite strikes again.

"94% of blacks voted for Obama. That's lockstep."

Do the goalposts get heavy when you move them that far?

"what percentage of actors does your unatributed cut and paste represent?"

A portion of those willing to go on the record. There are more.

WOW!

A pro-Obama video released --- was it really only 19 months ago? --- to boost support for the campaign (and receiving zero support from said campaign).

Hey, Jeff, what's next? Ol' Blue Eyes singing "High Hopes"? (www.youtube.com)

LOL!

Do the goalposts get heavy when you move them that far?

Please Parseforth, by any objective measure, 94% of a given group doing one thing is lockstep.

Claiming now it's moving goalposts makes you look pathetic, but I assume you already know that.

Let's just agree you have no idea whether or not those "actors" actually voted for Obama or not. Let's also agree that even if they did, and you actually sourced it, that they'd be in the extreme minority of actors.

I'd like to give you points for at least trying, but the attempt was so weak that I can't.

"Let's just agree you have no idea whether or not those "actors" actually voted for Obama or not."

But you do?

Laughable.

You supplied a list (unattributed), or have you already forgotten?

Like I said, very weak attempt.

"You supplied a list"

After you made a claim.

Or have you already forgotten?

I made a broad claim, one that is widely accepted. You on the other hand provided actual names that you stole from a site that you didn't source.

Again, I'm sure you're aware of the difference.

Set aside your man-crush for Obama and watch the video. It is both hilarious, creepy and is just one of those instances that is one of the many triggers for the whole Messiah perception.

I set this thread up for some laughs - I really thought this video was classic. I forgot however just how thin-skinned Obamabots can be.

Danforth,

Are you actually trying to suggest that anything less than a HUGE majority of actors voted for Obama?

"I made a broad claim, one that is widely accepted."

Only by idiots. I serve on the joint boards of AFTRA-SAG. No one in that room would make the claim you did.

"Are you actually trying to suggest that anything less than a HUGE majority of actors voted for Obama?"

Define "lockstep".

Only by idiots. I serve on the joint boards of AFTRA-SAG. No one in that room would make the claim you did.

#29 | Posted by Danforth

If you had to venture a guess, what percentage of actors would you say voted for Obama?

51%?

47%?

20%?

"one of the many triggers for the whole Messiah perception."

And who in the video claims he's the Messiah?

Define "lockstep".

#30 | Posted by Danforth

>75%

">75%"

Then you & 101 need to talk.

And who in the video claims he's the Messiah?

#32 | Posted by Danforth

You are the biggest lover of semantics I have ever seen.

For the nth time, I will break it down for you as simply as I can:

An awful lot of Obama supporters demonstrated their support in a fashion whereby it appeared as if they viewed him as a Messiah.

That is the claim being made.

You, and all of the other Obama-lovers moved the goalposts to: "Show me an example of any Obama supporter using 'messiah language'."

Now, even a few examples of actual messiah language do exist, but they are irrelevant to the point.

Did you watch the video?

"I made a broad claim, one that is widely accepted."

Only by idiots. I serve on the joint boards of AFTRA-SAG. No one in that room would make the claim you did.

#29 | Posted by Danforth at 2009-09-09 03:46 PM | Reply

Jesus Christ you're pathetic. Nobody in their right mind would possibly claim that Hollywood isn't liberal.
The fact you're even attempting to make the claim that it's not widely accepted is enough of a white flag for me. Seriously, that's just the silliest thing I've witnessed you do in order to avoid admitting you were wrong. And that's saying a lot.

"...as if they viewed him as a Messiah. "

The operative words being "as if".

YOU were the one that made the leap to deification.

"Did you watch the video?"

Yes. Where was the word "Messiah" used?

"Nobody in their right mind would possibly claim that Hollywood isn't liberal."

I'm not. But no one in their right mind would claim there's not a fear of coming out on the conservative side in that town. The Board members I serve with are about 90/10 left on the AFTRA side, but about 55-45 left on the SAG side. It stunned me at first, I'll admit.

"in order to avoid admitting you were wrong."

Give me a percentage for "lockstep".

The operative words being "as if".

YOU were the one that made the leap to deification.

That is how their behavior came accross.

The 'Messiah tag' was created to make fun of said behavior.

It's a metaphor.

Here is the definition:

met⋅a⋅phor  /ˈmɛtəˌfɔr, -fər/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [met-uh-fawr, -fer] Show IPA
Use metaphor in a Sentence
See web results for metaphor
See images of metaphor
noun 1. a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in "A mighty fortress is our God." Compare mixed metaphor, simile (def. 1).

Why is this so difficult for you to comprehend and why does this bother you so much?

"That is how their behavior came accross...It's a metaphor."

So you admit you interpreted it to mean Messiah. Thanks for the admission.

"The 'Messiah tag' was created to make fun of said behavio"

So you admit you made the leap to deification language. Thanks for that admission, too.

Seeing the word "unequivicable" was painful enough. Then the video . . .

So you admit you made the leap to deification language. Thanks for that admission, too.

#41 | Posted by Danforth

I never claimed otherwise.

Do you even see where I am coming from with the metaphor, or does all of the gushing and fawning support Obama received during the campaign seem normal to you?

So you admit you interpreted it to mean Messiah.

No. The word messiah was used to mock the behavior. I didn't "interpret" anything. Messiah was a very appropos metaphor to describe how Obama supports viewed him.

O-ba-mah O-ba-mah . . .

Give him credit for this much. The girls in that video are all hotties. The black girl singing off-key, the Latina, Jessica Alba (also a latina) . . . mmm MMMMM.

They guys, though? Uglies. That might be the best reason to be a lib--plenty of good looking loose women, and your only competition is ugly unemployed guys. Just hum a few bars of "saving the world for our children", and start making tick marks on your scorecard.

"The word messiah was used to mock the behavior. I didn't "interpret" anything."

Your second sentence needs to be introduced to your first sentence.

That Latina girl is sure excited about the idea of seeing the war end. I wonder if she still gets the newspaper.

O-BA-MA O-BA-MA

" That might be the best reason to be a lib--plenty of good looking loose women, and your only competition is ugly unemployed guys. Just hum a few bars of "saving the world for our children", and start making tick marks on your scorecard."

Being able to dance well helps, too.

I can't dance anymore. Ever since I heard that first O-ba-ma speech, that tingling sensation in my leg has thrown off all my rhythm.

That said, this is the first time I've ever gotten aroused by watching a political ad. Jessica Alba will do that for anyone.

Well, almost anyone. I keep forgetting where I am sometimes.

I set this thread up for some laughs - I really thought this video was classic. I forgot however just how thin-skinned Obamabots can be.

#27 | Posted by JeffJ at 2009-09-09 03:45 PM

The video was classic, and hilarious, but seriously Jeff, it hasn't been THAT long since the campaign. You're poking the O'tards in their tender no-no don't touchy spot. ie. their messiah complex

Your second sentence needs to be introduced to your first sentence.

#45 | Posted by Danforth

Whatever.

If it makes you feel so important - you win.

Now, care to address this:

Do you even see where I am coming from with the metaphor, or does all of the gushing and fawning support Obama received during the campaign seem normal to you?

It's probably natural to you since I'd be willing to bet you had a hand in the production of that video.

No, you're just being a repetitive bore, with your constant chanting of "messiah".

This thread was created in order to generate a few laughs and to get under the skin of Obamabots.

I seemed to have succeeded on both counts.

Oh, and since the election I have only mentioned the messiah thing a couple of times. That's hardly "repetitive".

"Set aside your man-crush for Obama and watch the video."

Oooooh, Jeffree, I did, I did.

"It is both hilarious, creepy and is just one of those instances that is one of the many triggers for the whole Messiah perception."

It's actually exceptionally well conceived, produced, and edited. If you see "Messiah" there, then you ought to start listening to some old Beatles vinyl played backwards.

"I set this thread up for some laughs - I really thought this video was classic."

Don't worry, Jeffree, plenty of laughs. All around you tiightie riighites, nothing but laughter.

As I say, it's an excellent video, designed to motivate people after Hillary beat Obama in the New Hampshire primary.

Content is important, Jeffree. So is context. But that requires some subtlety of thought and that's not really one of the riight's strong suits now, is it?

So, tell me, whattaya think: is Paul dead?

So, what's up next, Jeffree? A link to a site where Spike Jones sings "Der Fuhrer's Face"? Kewl! How about the latest that's crossed your screen, something like Merle Haggard's "Okie from Muskogee"? "Actors and minorities are lockstep voters. FACT!"

Fact?
That word you keep using....I don't think it means what you think it means....

Is that Scarlett Johansson at :24 (the girl wearing a scarf)? My God, what a beauty.

The video was shot in back and white. Yuk. It's high time to simply discard monochrome media. It doesn't make a statement more profound or edgy; it just means you are a douche or an untalented hack.

Unequivicable? RIR already covered that.

Messiah complex? Followers don't have a messiah complex, that is reserved for the leaders, i.e., the leaders are the ones with delusions of grandeur not the followers. You probably should have used Cult of Personality instead, but I think that's still stretching it. I'm normally not a grammar Nazi, but there was just too much fail in those five words to go un-noted.

Do you even see where I am coming from with the metaphor, or does all of the gushing and fawning support Obama received during the campaign seem normal to you?

I believe it is normal behavior, much like religion itself, it is probably an ancient survival advantage passed down through evolution from times when men were more primitive and social order was in its infancy. Certainly, no one side has a monopoly on gushing and fawning; the other sides gushing just seems odd when viewed from your own universe.

I was going to compare this video to Bush propaganda or Reagan veneration, but I'll leave it where it stands.

I heard the apartment building where Bono lives is called The Messiah Complex...

You really do need to pay more attention, Jeffree. I've questioned Obama on Afghanistan, I don't think he's going far enough on health care reform, I wish he was more of a leftist, I wanted a much more leftist nominee for the Supremes than Sotomayor, and...well, I'd say you get the idea but I don't think you do. I voted for Obama because I thought he'd do a better job and be much better for the US than Bush had been or McCain could be and I think I'm right.

What I object to is the behavior of tools like you -- in fact, you'd be among the worst: pretending to be reasonable but underneath just another fucked-in-the-head wingnut -- who don't just disagree with him (which is fair and square, rules of the game stuff) but resort to lies to do so.

The Right's obsession with True Belief and their eagerness to bow to authority figures ocnditions them to assume that everyone else is as addicted to lickspittle behavior as they are. Hence their assumption that if their "leaders" are True and Good then the figures they see as the leadership of The Enemy must be the opposite: Evil. It's a Children of Light v. the Children of Darkness mentality and is, at best, childish. At its worst, that sort of attitude renders informed and productive discourse within a civil society impossible.

What I find particularly offensive here on the DR is the thinly-disguised racialism on which some of the wingnuts hang their commentary.

You want to find Pavlovian? Then you'll need to look a lot closer to home.

Uh oh, there's the bell, kid, time for you to start salivating.

LOL!

Wow, 1292 views and 3 comments for this video. "Unequivicable" proof.

The real "We Are The Ones" and "Yes We Can" got nearly 3 million views at Dipdive.com and about 2.5 million on Youtube. They got them when it mattered too.

The Republican response at the time? "Drill, baby, drill", Sarah Palin winking and Joe the Plumber.
