Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

At least 20 world leaders gathered Tuesday in Poland to commemorate the start of World War II 70 years ago -- a conflict in which 6 million Poles died. Germany's pre-dawn invasion began when the battleship Schleswig-Holstein fired on the Westerplatte military base in Gdansk harbor on September 1, 1939. The attack set off a chain of events that eventually embroiled all of the world's major powers in the war.

Everybody in the world should forget about all the good things and hold dear in their hearts when we all tried to kill as many of our fellow humans as possible.

We could have a parade to commemorate our blood-lust.

The invasion of China by Japan in 1937 was the real beginning of WWII. Or wasn't that important enough for the ethnocentric eurocentric historians?

World War II started when Woodrow Wilson and the allies inked the Treaty of Versailles....much more than 70 years.

Sure.

But as a side note,it made it even sweeter for Hitler to force the French to sign their surrender treaty in the same train car as Germany did after WWI.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

I'm getting tired of (hearing) you whine, when you yourself stated your career has produced many of the things responsible for todays problems.

Get over yourself, you made your money, now get over yourself.

I hope that bastard thought about just that as he hid like a coward in a bunker as others fought and died, murdered his wife and then shot himself as befits a statist dictator and bigot.
Die like dogs, all who think government should determine society rather than society dictate to government.

I had relatives at Buchenwald and Bergen-Belsen. I was with you until you threw in that little bit of crazy at the very end. Nice sentiment, but it's the 21st century, Mishima.

Ness Gadol? Make sense. You think government should determine society. Then what was wrong with the death camps? They were government approved as are our abortuaries.
Social prejudice should not determine government as a rule, and we agree there.
But government should never be as powerful in the first place as to make possible an imposition of murder. There we disagree...not on the Stalin/Hitler camps, but maybe abortuaries.

Oh, and Ness: I had Scottish Presbyterian ancestors killed by Cromwell and Irish Catholic ones killed by him as well. Funny, the two parts of the family were different religions. Don't play the Holocaust guilt card with me. None of my ancestors owned slaves, several died on the Union side and still racial extortionists want reparations from me.
Genocide is not restricted to Northern Europeans or African tribes. You might be able to appreciate that should you spare a minute of objective thought...but I doubt you could do that.
Try this: 50 million non humans were aborted since 1972. They were not human, right? Nope. How prominent were Jews like the Ochs and Sulzbergers in making sure that "right" made 50 million (non) deaths a reality?

our abortuaries

Lol.

Society wants abortions kept safe, rare and legal.

A prohibition on abortion would be about as successful as the prohbition on alcohol was back in the day or the "war on drugs" is today.

a statist dictator and bigot

You fergot "homophobe".

Oh that's right, yer one of them too.

Well, at least you and Hitler will have sommat in common to talk about in Hell.

That'll be nice fer you.

Be Well.

My mother was locked up in prison by that liberal FDR, my Father, and my Uncles all faught in most of the major battles, so I have heard many stores, and have vivid memories.

And most of mine were killed by old joe when he had them rounded up and shipped to the snow drifts in Siberia. Ya jest gotta love them commies.

"My mother was locked up in prison by that liberal FDR,"

You'll get no sympathy for that here in this Liberal Blog. If your mother had been locked up in Guantanamo by the Conservative Bush on the other hand, htne yes, you'd get plenty of sympathy.

Wow, how insightful. It's as if God stumbled down from Heaven and put a Jesus in my ear and He told me a Great Truth.

If everyone in this world could read this post, there would be no more war. Not once. Not never.

Pacifist ends in fist, remember that.

Bush's fault.

Oh, puh-leez. Most liberals I know are horrified by the Japanese internment part of our history. The irony here is that that policy is more akin to some of the stuff that came out of or during the Bush administration (paranoia about those who _look_ like the enemy of the day, need to give up liberty for security, etc.), that FDR was in this regard rather neocon... Hm.

Nice to see the right-wingers recognize WW2 started in 1939, not in 1941 when the pro-Nazi-appeaser Republicans lost their business deals with Hitler.

I agree, but most in the west tended to ignore what was happening in Asia up to the point where Japanese bombs came dropping down on Pearl Harbor. Both fronts of the war are interesting for their similarities and differences. Here's hoping nothing like it will ever happen again (but I'm not wildly optimistic).

Farewell to Manzanar.

I could not agree more. War is NEVER justified.
War is NEVER a solution. ALWAYS give peace
a chance. Fighting is ALWAYS wrong.

Violence merely begets more violence. - Confucius

Be Well.

#22 Skip Wellington > Fighting is ALWAYS wrong.

So the few Jews who fought the Nazis in the Polish Ghetto uprising were wrong to do so? I agree that we should give peace a chance, or do the best we can to maintain peace, but at some point, there are certainly things worth fighting AND dying for.

Pacifism is all fine and great until a Hitler, a Stalin or a Tojo comes along. I would love to live in a world where I could subscribe to a far reaching philosophy of pacifism. This just aint it.

"I could not agree more. War is NEVER justified."
Unless in self defense
"War is NEVER a solution."
Unless you want to free some slaves or stop a Holocaust.
"Fighting is ALWAYS wrong."
Fighting the wrong fight is always wrong.

The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made our position unassailable. - Sun Tzu

Well if someone is trying to kill you, you better hope so. Its always fun to replace thinking with someone else's quotes but what do you do when someone is trying to hurt you or take life's necessities away from you and they don't considering talking it over an option?

You can either die and "end the cycle of violence" or you can fight back and maybe live.

The fundamental flaw with pacifism is that you'd have to be ignorant to nearly the entirety of human history to believe it works. For every Gandhi there are a thousand examples of the effectiveness of violence.

Or make the other son-of-a-bitch die and end the cycle of violence.

So we can put you down as pro-violence?

Is this a political position or do you practice it in your personal life as well?

The really weird thing is, They're both right. Fuck. Now what do we do?

Sniper, that never happened. The NY Times won a Pulitzer for making sure we knew that NEVER happened.
And now we read in the same newsrapers our health care system is worse than all others!
Believe it! Succumb.....die...give up....
Washington and Jefferson were socialists.....

6 million. 6 million. 6 million.

Uh, how come Hollywood never mentions the 45 million Russians that died?

Excellent question - the horrors that the Ruskies endured during that war from forces abroad almost approaches the horrors inflicted upon their populace by the hand of their own government.

The attack set off a chain of events that eventually embroiled all of the world's major powers in the war.

Or, you could say, George W. Bush's prototype for a false flag, Reichstag set it off...

"So we can put you down as pro-violence?"

It is stupid to take absolute positions on anything, particularly this. I avoid violence when I can. If someone puts me in a position where violence becomes necessary, I try to be more violent than the other guy. I never get in anyone's face or engage in chest bumping or other activities that guys who pretend they want to fight engage in... I've found that if someone is trying to indimidate me and I make it perfectly clear that I'm willing to fight without being a clown about it, he will find someone else to bother. It has been a very long time since I've been in a fight.

"Is this a political position or do you practice it in your personal life as well?"

Why would you ask me a question that assumes my answer to your previous question was an unqualified "Yes"? It wasn't.

It was 20 years ago today

Said "peace was going out of style
And we can overthrow France in a while"
