Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The Federal Trade Commission on Thursday banned unsolicited, prerecorded, commercial telemarketing calls -- better known as robocalls -- beginning Sept. 1. "American consumers have made it crystal clear that few things annoy them more than the billions of commercial telemarketing robocalls they receive every year," FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz said.

It's about time they did this.

Weren't these already made illegal in the mid-90's?! Replace all FTC chairpeoples for acting too slowly.

Of course, they exempted politicians, so the worst of the scum remains.

But.......... politicians are exempt from that law. Ain't that just speciaaaaal.

Gawd, I wish I could post this in 144-point type - here goes anyway:

YAY!!!

Two words here.

Woo and Hoo!

Outsourcing smear campaigns to robots is never a good idear.

No offense, Redlight.

Be Well.

Thank you Mr President..........

Yeah, but are they gonna get rid of the calls from India?

"Yeah, but are they gonna get rid of the calls from India?"

Just do what I do. Whenever I get an Indian telemarketer, I always ask their name. They always give a made-up American name, as in: "My name is Rick-kee."

To which I reply, "Yeah, like my name is Indira."

Very few of them try to stick it out past that point. They usually gulp and hang up.

The calls will continue anyway because of some loophole.

Now I'm really ticked.

I just ordered aluminum siding for my apartment (as long as they were "in the neighborhood.")

LOL

THANK YOU, FTC !!

I get those stupid robocalls all the time and they're a pain in the neck. Got one this morning (offering me a trip to the Carribean) and don't know how they get my phone number as it's unlisted. I just hang up but then another company will call back with a different offer.

Six, two and even they exempted political campaign ads from the ban.

I thought this was already law! We should have had this fixed a while back now (2001?!), so it's alarming how slow-acting the FTC is. I always presume someone is one the take.

Otherwise, let the celebrations commence!

don't you see what is happening? the government is taking away any jobs that may provide a potential for high income.

woo hoo all you want, this is bad news, comrade.

Is this is the first meaningful change since the last election?

Better not count our chickens quite yet.

Connect that dot for me - I don't get what you've said.

Robocalls are not the equivalent of high income employment, or am I entirely missing something else?

I guess if you consider $7.50 per hour high. I guess it is for India.

The name says it all, "Robocalls' - prerecorded messages dialed and played by a computer.
