Legendary criminal and mobster Joe Kennedy, who made his family fortune by bootlegging illegal liquor, was disappointed yet again in his quest to win the White House by another of his sons.
Kennedy, who died in 1969, long dreamed of buying the presidency for his firstborn, Joe Jr., but that goal was cut short when the son died in World War II.
Dreams of the dynasty were revived with next-in-line John, who won in 1960 -- as a gift from Chicago thugs -- in a brutal manner America would not see again until the 2008 elections.
But John was assassinated, as was his nepotistic brother Robert, so all of Joe's dreams rested on Ted, a vulgar, drunken, lying sot. Certainly the color character at any Irish wedding, but far too disgusting for most of America.
