Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Sometime in the early morning hours of Sept. 7, residents of this small Pacific island nation will stop their cars, take a deep breath, and do something most people would think is suicidal: Start driving on the other side of the road. Samoa is about to become what's believed to be the first nation since the 1970s to order its drivers to switch from one side of the road to the other. That's spawned an islandwide case of road rage. Opponents have organized two of the biggest protests in Samoan history, and a new activist group -- People Against Switching Sides, or PASS -- has geared up to fight the plan.

Who cares, just get the fuck out of my way.

A word of caution....

Wait a couple of days until you venture out.

rwd

Don't let the man keep you down. Everyone that is against this should continue to drive on the original side. It'll work itself out.

The last thing I want is some pissed off 750 pound Samoan racing head first in his truck towards me on the same side of the road.

Driving on the left isn't easy. I can sympathize with them.

Great band from high school days. "They Saved Hitler's Cock" and "Lights Out" were both awesome punk anthems.

And so you worked the wall with michael
Three-hundred-seventy-nine pounds of samoan dynamite
Which gave your back an awful strain
Volcanic hell

Switching to the British way of driving is stupid for whatever reason. The damned Brits should switch to the right hand side. What trips me out is people who know how to drive on either side, like tour bus drivers that go back and forth from the UK to the continent.

"a 750 pound Samoan" LOL

My brother substitute taught in the Long Beach area. He said the Pacific Islander kids were the most ill behaved, especially the Samoans.

Switching to the British way of driving is stupid for whatever reason. The damned Brits should switch to the right hand side.

Why is it stupid? Driving on the right is stupid with the steering wheel on the left.... accident waiting to happen.

All our cars have steering wheel on the right and we drive on the left and we are proud of it. Yeah!

Driving on the right is stupid with the steering wheel on the left.... accident waiting to happen.

???

No more so than driving on the left with the steering wheel on the right.

It will take time to adjust.

Hope their premiums are paid. This may cause a few accidents at first.

I just don't know if I can shift gears with my left hand

I just don't know if I can shift gears with my left hand

I laways thought that wouldd be the hardest part

I just don't know if I can shift gears with my left hand

I don't think I can shift gears with my right hand. I am too used to using my left hand to shift the gears in my right-hand drive vehicle.

No more so than driving on the left with the steering wheel on the right.

There was a foolish Prime Minister in the 50s who thought it would be great of we drive American-style.

But with road accidents sky-rocketing, we had to go back to British-style and it has always remained like so.

Stupid? 'Cause they ain't like you? Are the Japanese stupid, too? Perhaps the US should switch to the left?

Stupid? Why does the US continue to use that incredibly cumbersome "standard" measuring system: inches, feet, ounces, pounds, etc., throw in fractions. The Metric system is so much simpler and easier to ken. The US monetary system is basically metric. But nooooooo! We gotta be us (US)!

The list of those countries that drive on the left:

Antigua & Barbuda
Australia
Bahamas
Bangladesh
Barbados
Bermuda
Bhutan
Bophuthatswana
Botswana
British Virgin Islands

Granted, I think it should be standardized across the planet. Would certainly save billions on duplicate car design and manufacture. But then again, humans are not proving out to be very rational at all long term.

Pacific Island you say?

Global Warming will meke it disappear then they won't have to worry about which side of the road to drive on.

That is what Al Gore told me.

"That is what Al Gore told me."

The highest point in Samoa is Mauga Silisili, at 1858 m. en.wikipedia.org

Don't know why, but i find it easier to drive on the left side of the road when I'm on on a motorbike than in a car.

Driving on the right is stupid with the steering wheel on the left.... accident waiting to happen.

This is a stupid post, even by Tosser standards. It is only by having the steering wheel on the opposite side of the driving lane, that the driver can see oncoming traffic.

As to the post, maybe this is the Samoan version of the cash-for-clunkers program. They don't have any money to pay people to buy another car, so they'll just make it much harder for people to drive their present ones.

Wasn't Hunter Thompson's attorney a giant Samoan? Peter Boyle's character in "Where the Buffalo Roam..."

"Why does the US continue to use that incredibly cumbersome "standard" measuring system: inches, feet, ounces, pounds, etc., throw in fractions."

Because it would cost us billions of dollars to switch and it would do away with one of the few obstacles foreign firms have to dominating our markets. Our imbalance of trade is high enough. We are already practically bankrupted. Why would we spend all this money just to make things worse?

A friend of mine once switched sides of the road. He eventually peacefully died in his sleep, unlike the other four people in the car who died screaming and frantic.

Isn't it funny how in just about every thread, Tosser seems to have some fact to point out about his country that makes it better than America? I think someone has a complex - maybe it's time to see a head doctor. I'm sure psychiatric methods in Pakistan are somehow better than ours, so they will probably be able to work wonders.

You will never convince anyone that Pakistan is superior to the United States. You are wasting your time, so STFU already.

Yes idiot.

I did say I drive on the left in a RIGHT HAND DRIVE CAR.

Driving on the other side isn't better or worse, it something one is used to.

They are amazing.

My my... I think I stepped on a nerve. LOL

Plus all them tools makers would lose billions selling two sets of tools, metric and standard, to us knucklebusters because the US refused to adapt fully to the metric system (essentially the world) standard decades ago.

So we fart around with two systems. Two sets of tools. Nuts, bolts, washers, screws, etc. Damn metric hammers always confuse me.

And teachers have to deal with teaching the two systems. Fractions are a bitch for many kids.

Metric is a better system for measurement. Easy to use. Easy to comprehend. Easy to parse. But if one has grown up in the US measurement system, like I have, it is hard to relate a kilo to a pound (or the Brits still using "stone."), or a centimeter to an inch. kph vs mph.

Then Somoa takes a great step backwards (IMHO) and goes all lefty. That's gonna cost them. In may ways.

Joe - You're falling into the trap of treating Tosser like a real person. He's just trolling. He blatantly contradicts himself all the time and then denies it. Everyone knows he's a clown. It is some kind of weird thing with his culture where everyone pretends to believe each other's lies so nobody ever has to admit to being wrong. Its one of the reasons they are behind India.

I fell into the same trap last week. Then I just started responding to him in kind and he couldn't take it and went crying to Rcade. Then he bragged about being a crybaby! LOL.

Anyway, cut him a break. No matter what he says, at least you aren't in Pakistan.

Agreed. Its a better system on paper but I can't estimate distances or weights using it.

I think I'm going to start driving right down the middle of the road.

I'm all about compromising!

RE: metric system. I grew up partly abroad and partly here and am good with math so I have no problem switching between the two.

A long time ago a coleague of mine used to joke that the reason we don't swtich to metric is that all the recipes are in the English system.

In a free country you should be allowed to drive on whichever side of the road that you want.

In many countries manual transmissions are more popular than automatic transmissions. I am just wonderinf if the driving wheel is on the right how they would swtich gears with the left instead of right hand. I guess it's something you get used to.

OMG! Think of the children!

LOL there ya Danni. I like that idea.

And I should be able to keep changing my mind regarding what side I want to be driving on, while on my way into town!

"Isn't it funny how in just about every thread, Tosser seems to have some fact to point out about his country that makes it better than America? I think someone has a complex - #23 | Posted by JOE"

All the while JOE is perched in the US shouting "We're Number 1, we're number 1!"

Take your foam finger outta your ass, Moron.

When you start to realize that the whole Right/Left Car issue is due directly to the protectionist activities of Automotive Manufacturers and their nearly century-long monopolies in certain countries, you can step away from the kiddie's table and join the rest of us.

Sheesh, I feel like Gulliver watching tiny people arguing over which side of an egg to open up and eat from.

I am thinking of the children.

Children under 10 walking a dog are worth 15 points still, right?

Depends on the age of the dog, Kan.

I like aiming for the kids wearing protective gear: doesn't damage your car as much.

We are just having some silly fun.

Plus a possible splatter bonus!

When they came out with those stupid family stickers you see on everyone's car, I thought about buying a shitload of dog and cat stickers and place them on my fender like the way old WW2 Aces used to mark planes they shot down with Swastikas.

Old people are the best though, Kan.

The look on their face as they try to get their walkers to change direction when they see you coming at them, is priceless!!

My first time driving in St Thomas was in a US style Jeep (left hand drive) but the roads were left hand drive too.

It only takes a minute or two to get used to it. Large intersections still required a bit of thinking though.

I don't get the same satisfactions Lisa. I mean, they are already on death's door, so what are you really doing?

I am sure that you are having fun just as sure as I am that Danni's comment wasn't 100% humorous. I am sure there was a jab in there at people who care more about individual freedom than she does.

I have a Green Bay Packer emblem that takes up my back tailgate window.

Today when we were coming back home from shopping, a guy pulls up next to me on the freeway and slows down enough to look at me.

He wants me to see he's holding up a GB Packer wallet!
LOL

I gave him a thumbs upBB

#48

Have you seen the number of people splashed when you hit one wearing a colostomy bag????

Lisa, do you add another GB sticker every time Favre retires and comes back?

And this targeting of old people is amateur at best. They're only worth a point each and you never know if they messed themselves before or after.

#51

No, but sounds like a Gallagher moment for sure. Century Village, here I come!

Kev,

I have been a Packer fan since I was ten years old...back.in the day of log cabin stadiums.

I admit my love for Brett...but the Packers come first.

However, I do make my husband put on my #4 jersey and a tight pair of jeans for fantasy night!!

What trips me out is people who know how to drive on either side

Having done it for years, it's really not that difficult. You just need to be flexible enough in your thinking to quickly adapt from left to right according to the particular situation at hand. Which means you can't be a Democrat or a Republican.

LOL

Good one Redman!!

Lisa, I'm a Favre guy through it all. Still watch the pack, as I've been doing since 1994 when Kevin Green knocked a young Favre on his ass and backwards about 10 yards only to have him throw up and quickly throw a touchdown pass to win. But I was watching the Jets last year and will be watching the Vikings this year...and I realize that disgusts the Pack faithful. But hey, what's a kid raised in SoCal supposed to do if not follow his favorite player until he literally turns to dust on the field?

I've tried to pull off the Favre fantasy too...but never could get the stubble quite right.

"I am just wonderinf if the driving wheel is on the right how they would swtich gears with the left instead of right hand. I guess it's something you get used to."

I think in some countries it takes two people to drive one of those cars. Actually I used to let my grandson shift the gears in my mini. I'd push the clutch and say shift and he knew how to do it. Now his is older and bored with Grandma's driving.

"I am just wonderinf if the driving wheel is on the right how they would swtich gears with the left instead of right hand. I guess it's something you get used to."

The same way a lefthanded person like myself had to learn how to shift with my right hand.

Kev,

I wish Brett well but can not bring myself to cheering for the Vikes.

Can't get the stubble right...LOL!!!

#58

My husband says it's like being on the Evil Knievel ride at Six Flags, when I drive.

Apparently, he's never bored!!!

Of course he exaggerate. Well, with the exception of one curve heading farther up the mountain. I always seem to take that one a little too fast!

You'd think which side of the road people drive on would work like toilet-water swirling, one direction in the northern hemisphere, the other down under...

In a free country you should be allowed to drive on whichever side of the road that you want.

Thanx fer pointing that out.

Yes "Joe", that was me being sarcastic and funny by replying to a post that said driving British-style was stupid.

I had no idea you would misunderstand and make a federal case out of it. LOL

He blatantly contradicts himself all the time and then denies it.

I can't help it if you don't have the brains to understand me the first time, Man-child.

Everyone knows he's a clown.

And everyone knows you are a man-child. LOL

But yeah, I got a mean-funny streak in me...

Its one of the reasons they are behind India.

Just like America is "behind" Canada. hahahahahaha

Then I just started responding to him in kind

Sorry Man-child. I don't do racist bigot stuff like you do.

The moment you did, you got dumps and just today you got another bigot post deleted.

You will learn .. slowly.. but you will learn. They all do. LOL

at least you aren't in Pakistan.

Thank Allah for THAT. Wouldn't want a crazy American driving the wrong way and causing an accident.

"I don't do racist bigot stuff like you do."

You're always writing stuff about stupid, fat Americans. And you write racist stuff about Obama all the time. Why do you lie so obviously? It really is a perplexing part of your culture - the believing your own lies thing. Not that its easy to figure out why you all walk around smelling like shit all the time either......

You don't get dumps because nobody cries to Rcade about you. The dumps I got speak more to you being a baby who can dish it out but can't take it than anything else.

I am just wonderinf if the driving wheel is on the right how they would swtich gears with the left instead of right hand.

Practise. For a long time LeMans cars and Formula one cars were righthand drive and American drivers had to adapt with left handed shifting. Ford ended up putting their GT-40 shifters next to the door.

Whole thing sounds like a plot to keep Jap and Aussie car manufacturers with a market.

And Sully-re metrics. Nearly everything more technical than a 2x4 made in the US is metric already. Certainly everything exported, like 747s are metric.

This was a quick reply... LOL

Were you waiting ready at your keyboard?

You're always writing stuff about stupid, fat Americans.

"Americans" are not a race. And they are fat and stupid.

How much do you weigh, man-child?

You don't get dumps because nobody cries to Rcade about you.

Oh, I did get one once. when YOU went "crying to Rcade".

Yep.

The dumps I got speak more to you being a baby who can dish it out but can't take it than anything else.

Whatever.

If you step away from the straight and narrow, you will get noticed.

It's the law here buddy and I'm the new deputy in town. LOL

It's simple... don't be a racist and don't be a religious bigot.

You will not get dumps. LOL

Not that its easy to figure out why you all walk around smelling like shit all the time either......

I didn't know you were into smelling my shit? LOL

What kind of a freak are you...???

"Americans" are not a race. And they are fat and stupid."

Neither are "Pakistanis" or "Muslims". And they do smell very bad....

"Oh, I did get one once. when YOU went "crying to Rcade"."

Someone may have complained about your idiocy but it wasn't me. I just throw it right back at you and send you running to mommy.

I hate the left side of the road!

35 years ago my brother and I were in Eleuthra on a family vaca. We went for a drive on the first day, cautiously driving on the 'wrong side' of the road. Stopped off to watch the surf, blowing a doob, and enjoying the scene. We got back on the road, driving back in a haze. After winding through hills and turns on our way back, we saw a vehicle headed directly for us. We were so zoned out...we had been driving on the wrong side of the road. Laughed all the way back. Old habits are hard to break.

Hey sully imagine trying to figure out liters per kilometer!

And they do smell very bad....

How would you know? You are only an ignorant-American.

From what I've been told, Indians smell, Pakis don't.

But even then it's a foodish smell.

Americans smell like a urinal however. LOL

but it wasn't me.

It was you. I am quite sure of it. You flagged and flagged and one of the flags stuck. But that was a long time ago.

and send you running to mommy.

Whatever. Like I said, a don't tolerate racists and bigots. When you get a dump or your post gets deleted, it's because you violated DR's posting rulez.

Btw, I have said this before... the founder of the Swat taliban movement started his list of grievances many decades ago by running a campaign to make people drive on the American-side of the road (right side).

"Because you are driving on the right hand side, it is more Islamic."... frigging idiot..... LOL

"Everyone who drives on the left, British-style, is SINNER!!!".... hahahahahaha... what a creep.

he is in jail right now.

RE: #37 - "Sheesh, I feel like Gulliver watching tiny people arguing over which side of an egg to open up and eat from."

Welcome to my world.

they should all drive in the middle. problem solved, :)
