Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Debt collection of American consumers is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Indian outsourcing. "It's like people are totally drowning," said collector Omkar Gadgil, 24, who goes by the alias Richard Rudy. "There has just been years of overspending and now the crash."

Americans have been spending beyond their means and are now paying for it --- but they want to blame it all on Wall Street greed.

The good news is that things are being shaken from top to bottom or from bottom to top --- and America will emerge stronger within a few years. Anyone predicting the demise of America will be eating plenty crows.

Better days are ahead!

Yes they are, all we need to do is get government out of our lives and let failures be punished by the free market and let successes be rewarded by the free market.

simple

The very idea of Indian debt collectors is a perfect way of illustrating exactly why Americans are not able to pay their debts. If I ever got a call from an Indian debt collector I would make sure that whichever company they were collecting for would be the last one I ever paid, if possible I would never pay them.

For once I agree with takitez. We needed this deep cleansing of our markets.

BTW, tell me again that corporate America and the wealthy aren't conducting class war against working class America....Indian debt collectors....the companies that hire them should be punished. Exile the CEOs to a country that wants them. Traitorous scum have no place in America.

I would make sure that whichever company they were collecting for would be the last one I ever paid, if possible I would never pay them.

You've got to start taking responsibility for yourself. You're over 50 years old for christ's sake. Your ex-girlfriend is going to eventually figure out you're a mooch.

"We needed this deep cleansing of our markets."

Funny, we didn't need it until after 8 years of Republican supply side economics.

God you are a jealous person 101. It must make you crazy to think of me tooling around in my Mini Cooper Convertible here in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, going to the beach with my grand kids and laughing at angry old farts like you. We have tons of cranky old retirees here, you'd fit right in.

What corporation or small business was punished DANNI, so you could reap the benefits of their profits to buy that Cooper of yours?

Just curious and wanting to know how the wealth was "spread around" so you could buy such an auto.

Poor Danni,
You're old enough to be my mother. Besides that obvious point, why would anyone be jealous of somebody that can't afford their own car?

Just curious and wanting to know how the wealth was "spread around" so you could buy such an auto.

She begged her ex-girlfriend for it. She thought of it as alimony after the broad dumped her.

I don't feel sorry for these overspenders. Many of these lemmings were just following the guy in front of him over the cliff. What do they have to show for all that overspending, just a bunch of junk. Now that they are losing their cars and houses because they can't afford them, I will laugh as I drive by and splash muddy water on their cardboard houses under bridges.

Compassionate Conservative Thom

Thom you can lose everything we a few strokes of bad luck. Suppose you have a massive accident and your insurance doesn't want to pay? don't be such a jerk and realize not everybody is lazy or deserved their predicament. Plenty of folks out there who think it could never happen to them. Even if you have some savings unless you have millions in the bank you aren't set for life.

RASTANINJA,

Actually you have a good point, but I know some people personally who spent foolishly who are now crying about their bad luck. To some degree we make our own luck.

Dudes... Indian debt collectors break people's legs in India.

You are damn lucky to get the ones who only use a phone.

"She begged her ex-girlfriend for it. She thought of it as alimony after the broad dumped her."

Envy is so unattractive.

And 101 I doubt seriously that I am old enough to be your mother. MOre likely you are not that far from my age. How old are you, be honest....for once.
For the record I am 57.

Why would you do that to your own home, fwthom?

Its not so much that our spending has increased, as our production has fallen through the groundfloor.

Danni,
I've made no secrets about it. I'm 36.

so bitter for someone so young.

Railing against companies that out-source services to foreign nations, yet you drive a British import (of dubious value I add - high cutesy factor, which is what you bought, but of marginal utility overall). Tsk, tsk.

I don't know why exactly 101 but I always thought you were older. I remember my thirties, in my opinion the best decade of your life. Still young yet you know what's going on. If you aren't happy when you are in your thirties you probably never will be.

"Railing against companies that out-source services to foreign nations,"

Baloney, I have no problem with importing goods as long as they come from countries where slave wages aren't the norm and where governments don't unfairly inhibit us from exporting to their markets as the Japanes, N. Koreans and Chinese do. I'm not against trade, I'm just against unfair trade.
BTW, have you ever driven a Mini???
If you haven't then you don't know what you are talking about, they drive like a much bigger car. Everyone who rides in mine is really surprised at how it feels and how big it is inside. Everyone who has ridden in mine wants one.

Thom

I'm one of the ones drowning yet if you looked at my numbers you would see that I have not been over spending. The fact is cost of living has doubled in the past 2-3 years. When the cost of living started sky rocketing I moved to reduce as much of the debt as I could and now pay less than 40% of my declared income in debt service. That includes mortgage car and all credit cards. Phone, Power, Food and Gas now take 55%. I don't have much margin for emergencies and with MS my medical expenses top 7k a year so you can see where there might be some issues falling behind on debt.

But no I see you are right I have just been throwing money around like there is no tomorrow.

Yes it is that simple. Government has gotten way too big and is sucking the blood right out of us. Dems and reps alike.

Ok Danni educate Me. What is soooo special about a Mini Cooper?? They look like some clown car reject. Tell Me what the appeal is because I don't at all get it.

Listen DudSpud(tm) the clown drives a Mini Cooper....so that means I love it too.

Yeah, you're right, of course...Go see how much American is in autos "made in America"

I'm well aware of the amount of American content in cars manufactured in America (and lack thereof). For a person that rants about trade (and sayst we should buy American made) to buy from a company not headquartered and not manufacturing in America is hypocricy regardless. So buying the Mini Cooper is better for your American brother/sister than buying a car manufactured outside of America and from a company that does not have their headquarters in America? Time to take your little ball and go home Geezer.

Larry when I went shopping for a car I never expected to buy a Mini but my grandkids wanted me to have a back seat (I was shopping for a Miata).
So anyway I went to a really big used car dealer and drove quite a few sporty cars and unexpectedly I tried a Mini. I was sold after the first ride.
They are very fast, handle incredibly, have plenty of room inside, everything I wanted. Even a big guy would be comfortable because the seat slides back farther than any other of the two seaters I tried.

And just to set the record straight, my ex offered the money for the car and condo because we both paid for her house for almost twenty years, both paid for her car, etc. We couldn't marry but we shared everything as if we were so she felt is was fair. We are still friends and we are both Obama supporters, even attended the rally here together.

RideOn you simpleton, I have never said we should be isolationist...that would be idiotic. Fair trade is good trade, Germany and Great Britain conduct fair trade with America and are valuable trading partners. Just like most right wing tools you can only manage to think in simplistic black and white concepts. BTW, if the idiotic management of American car manufacturers built a car I wanted I would have bought one.
Simpletons are the biggest problem America has today, Rush and SEan depend on fools like you. They manipulate you and laugh at you as they deposit their millions in the bank while telling you they identify with middle America.

Just registered for the Houston/Austin MS150 TAO - The goal is 17mil this year. Hope for the cure!

Debt collection, bankruptcy law, and "going out of business" advertising are the growth industries of the future. The Bush legacy will be historical equivalent of Nero -- the final leader of an empire on the decline whose inaction and lack of understanding of the greater problems, led to the collapse of the empire around him.

The economic future of the United States is more bleak than almost every country of the world. We have so depleted our own natural resources that nothing remains. The American standard of living will plummet to the point that the Shantytown will soon replace the suburbs. The American government's debt will lead to abject poverty for its citizens.

If anything good can come from this, it's that capitalism has finally been exposed for what it is -- a system that exploits the working class for the benefit of the rich. "Middle class" people enjoy short-lived benefits by being fooled into believing that they, too, can one day become wealthy. In the end, it's like a oak tree that has rotted from the inside... an empty shell that topples to the ground at the slightest breeze. Tragically, the wind is starting to kick up here...

Danni, you say whatever suits you at the time. You're a hypocrite....just admit it. If you believed in helping your fellow Americans and American auto workers, you'd buy stuff they produced. You always justify it in your mind and spit out nonsense. When you hate...you justify. When you buy non U.S.....you justify. When you enter talks to price fix wages....you justify. When you want to throw positions on others that they don't hold.....you justify and do it out of knee jerk reactions. Do you take medication?

P.S. Rush and Sean have nothing to do with me...I don't listen to them.

Time to take your little ball and go home Geezer.

I know cars. You bought cutesy. For a car of that size, acceleration numbers aren't great, mpg is less than one would expect from a small car. Reports concerning overall reliability indicate that the Mini is average to below average. As part of the greater BMW group, repairs and parts tend to be more expensive than the average bear, and Minis need a more frequent than average maintenance schedule. Crash rating and rollover rating are good to very good.

Value versus price does not balance with the Mini considering that there are comparable cars (though perhaps not as "sporty" or cute), some of which are much better equipped standard, in some cases literally thousands less: the Toyota Yaris line, the Scion line, Subaru Impreza AWD (base model), Honda Fit, Suzuki SX4 AWD, Mazda 3 series.

Depreciation is low, but that is more related to high cute rating than actual practical or utilitarian value.

Yeah, the Mini is real cute. And has developed a rather devoted cultish following. Lots of bling and baubles can be loaded onto its tiny body.

And you bought British. The British, though they have designed and roaded some stunningly beautiful and capable vehicles over the years, still seem to have great problems manufacturing a reliable vehicle. Can you say "Lucas"?

Your choice to buy a Mini Cooper. I looked very closely at the new Clubman S. At almost $24,000 MSRP, I can do better.

If you really cared Geezer, you'd buy as much as you can from companies headquarterd in America and that employ American workers to produce their products. I'm only addressing the hypocrisy of some on here. They rail against buying foreign and then try to justify it when they do it. My real thought is that real Americans buy what they want. I'm just conscious to first buy as much as possible from companies headquartered in America and using American workers to make it. But, that's just me. You do what you want....just don't be a hypocrite about it or take up for the hypocrits (cause' it only makes you one).

Why don't you buy your beer from somoene that produces it locally near you......there are probably some great selections.

You're a RIOT. Here is how you think. YOU THINK I'm influenced by Rush and Sean. You stated that.....LOL, I don't even listen to Rush and Sean. See Danni, your "thinking" is basically flawed. In most all of what I've seen in your postings your "thinking" is flawed. You can't even imaging that others can think different from you, and that they may, just may be correct. You're a classic narrow minded tool.

On another thread you defended your hating and hoping people die with pain, to be a stance of yours because you believe in justice. Danni, do you believe in the death penalty? Think and give it an answer. Thanks.

Let's straighten this one out once and for all. The Modern Mini is built in Germany and was designed in Germany by BMW (who bought the rights from the Brits). The original was a product of Austin Morris (UK). As for the car itself, it's a world beater on drivabiliy, utility, and in case anyone cares it has all that going for it and it gets just under 2MPG less than the French built Smart Car. So it's saving the planet to a degree too. I would love to pick one up in the next year, I'd go for the Mini Clubman though so we can take the dogs along with us. Bully for you Danni! I hope you enjoy your Mini!

"I'd go for the Mini Clubman"

My next car. I find that I don't really put the top down very often anyway and the extra room with the double doors would be handy. Plus my next one will be an S model. The regular Mini is fast but the S is faster.

Oh and BTW, they are actually built in Oxford England but the company is owned by BMW and the BMW dealer does the service which is excellent but definitely get the maintenance agreement because service is really expensive.

Think and give it an answer. Thanks.

I drink Dominion Ale. A great brew made locally however, these days it is hard to know what is made in America plus, the largest American retailer, Walmart, specializes in importing and selling foreign (China) goods and many American companies, J&J, Nike, etc. all have factories in foreign countries. Danni's mini cooper is made by BMW who has a factory in Spartansburg, SC (I don't think they make the minis there) and, of course, are sold by American workers in American companies (dealers). My point is: it is easier said than done to say "buy American". Even "Country First" John McCain has two Lexus as part of his automotive stable.

ElCid

Thanks I do apreciate it. Ironic thing is I used to do the rides myself.

I am trying to get in a study on a new drug that slows progression. Phase 2 showed 80% reduction in relapses what I'm currently on is 67% reduction so excited about that. It is also a pill vs. injection so even more excited about that. Thats what your riding helps research! Even better if I get accepted I don't have drug or MRI cost anymore will save me 3k a year!

Keep riding I can't anymore but I sure apreciate your help.

"it is easier said than done to say "buy American".

Correct, it takes work and diligence (it's not convenient) to research and "buy American". I just don't like the hypocrisy of some (Danni in particular in her rants). I'm in Detroit and I research heavily and in that category I work hard to get as much American content and with companies headquartered in the U.S.

P.S. You have good taste in beer. I don't drink it much anymore.

TAO,

You should see some relief as commodity prices are dropping through the floor. Gas today was $2.63 gal. Food prices are dropping too. Here is a tip, don't buy anything except food. I learned that watching Oprah.

Race for the cure!

Yup, sorry-ass American corporate banks can't even give a few Americans jobs as debt collectors - they gotta outsource it to India and save a few dollars to add to their bonuses. They want to take money out of this economy, but they don't want to give back a penny they don't absolutely have to.

I've long wondered when Corporate America is going to figure out the truth. When they outsource all the good-paying jobs to other countries, put us all in menial, minimum-wage jobs, and cut out all benefits of any kind- Who the hell in this country will be able to afford Corporate America's products and services?

I'm beginning to think we're getting to that point.

"I'm beginning to think we're getting to that point."

We're there.

Danni:

Yep, that's the one good thing about this financial quagmire we're in - it's beginning to become evident to a lot of people that we cannot continue giving Corporate America free rein to do as it bloody well pleases. The marketplace is supposed to be such a great regulator, but it hasn't worked - all it's done is to make it possible for our corporate masters to stack the deck entirely in their favor, with no responsibility to society at large. Now society has to pick up the tab.

I do place part of the blame on our legislative bodies - they have done less than nothing to curb the excesses of corporations, or to encourage job retention. The worst was right after 9/11, when a lot of companies seized the opportunity to slash jobs. They'd cut a bunch of people, then work the remainder to death (sixty and seventy hours a week) on salary. The gummint did absolutely nothing to stop this - all it would have taken was a temporary emergency ruling capping the national workweek at forty hours for a while.

It sucketh.

Like many of us said a while back, things will have to get worse before they will get better. I think we are now at "worse" and hopefully in the next few years it will get "better." Big changes will need to be made and the right will fight every step of the way. I put nothing beyond them to try and derail the changes which need to be made. Prescott Bush even participated in a coup attempt against FDR, I don't even think that will be out of the question with these lunatics.

Lunatics is right. I personally keep wondering when Bush and Cheney will declare that between the war and the financial emergency, that they have some sort of self-ascribed authority to defer the election until they feel a transition of power can take place.

I'm quite serious.

Are you kidding?

They would have left two months ago, if they could've.

Prescott Bush even participated in a coup attempt against FDR, I don't even think that will be out of the question with these lunatics.

Y'know what's funny? Up here in Montana, we can't tell the difference. We've made like 8 bucks an hour for jobs worth 20 for so long, our rich people are immune to economic falldowns and were able to easily absorb it, so nothing has changed. Gas went up a bit, that was about all.

Take that however you want, but it's what happened.

SOHEIFOX sounds like Montana is a lot like Florida.

"OMG, OMG really. Some even raised their voices against FDR for supporting the building of camps and incarerating large numbers of Japanes AMERICAN CITIZENS. OMG, OMG."

Nice story but Prescott Bush's problem with our government stemmed from it being anti-Nazi while he was pro-Nazi, genius.

Sohe knows about working for low wages

"Because I am not ashamed to get my hands dirty. I have been so poor that I have had to wear a gas mask
and spray out chemical trucks for a measly $6.00 an hour."

Too bad he won't buy American with his 6 bucks an hour though.

The worst was right after 9/11, when a lot of companies seized the opportunity to slash jobs. They'd cut a bunch of people, then work the remainder to death (sixty and seventy hours a week) on salary.

who?

TAO,

Since you already are in Texas riding in the MS150, maybe GOATMAN can help you get a job drilling for oil in the Gulf, or T. Boone Pickens can give you a job putting up those wind generators in West Texas, or come to Houston where the unemployment rate is zero.

Lone Star Thom

#43 | Posted by northguy3

Never happened ace.

There never was a surplus. If there was, the national debt would have decreased.

What war did he win?

Imagine living 36 years and still not knowing your ass from a hole in the ground.

The shit flinging industry is being outsourced. And writing "Internet Tough Guy" on applications doesn't impress employers. Sad day for airhead101.

BTW, Toyota can boast over 80% of their cars are made in the USA. Most, if not all, "American" cars don't come close to that. It makes me laugh when people act like it is patriotic to throw money at the worst decision makers in the industry just because of where they are incorporated. GM and Ford are not the only companies that can make a car and put skilled Americans to work at the same time. In fact, they suck at it.

"What war did he win?"

It served no national purpose and we bombed cities full of people who posed zero threat to us but I suppose the reference was to Bosnia.

It is easy to forget that one. As far as useless wars against people who posed no threat to us go, Bosnia is a footnote next to Iraq.

The worst was right after 9/11, when a lot of companies seized the opportunity to slash jobs. They'd cut a bunch of people, then work the remainder to death (sixty and seventy hours a week) on salary.

who?

#69 | Posted by eberly at 2008-10-15 01:37 PM

Eberly,

Everyone who worked in or around the trade center were laid off or transferred to overcrowded midtown offices...which didn't stay crowded for long. All new hires were terminated, and the pipelines cleared. It took YEARS to get back to "normal" and most companies STILL haven't gotten back up to pre-9/11 staffing levels. Everyone in the major industries was working WAY more than they had been to make up the deficit. Common knowledge.

Rasta now how is a guy making 6 bucks an hour gonna aford to buy American?

Then again if he is like me he doesn't buy shit that isn't food/clothes and finding American made clothes is not an issue with how much you will spend but how far back in time you are willing to go. We simply don't make clothes anymore.

However yep blame the guy who makes 6 bucks an hour for our problems, the Repubs are already doing it was just a matter of time before the Dems did it too. Remember we must bow to our corporate masters.

"However yep blame the guy who makes 6 bucks an hour for our problems"

Actually Tao they really do blame that guy and that is why they even outsource debt collection to India where they can pay $1.50. The greed fuckers aren't satisfied with paying someone $1.50, they'll eventually get it done by slaves.

Cheney brought the towers down with controlled explosions while Bush pretended to be dumb for 7 minutes down in Flrida. Also those were not real planes crashing into the towers but actually 10 inch model airplane made by Haliburton. On T.V. the perspective made them look huge.

Obama Voter

Bush pretended to be dumb just like FWTHOM pretends to be dumb.

We don't blame the guys making $6.00 an hour, we blame the people who never worked at all and are living like leeches off society. In other words, typical Obama supporters. And Barry will give them more!!

Thom,

I'm not riding in the MS150 I'm one of the guys with MS that people like ElCid and possibly Lip will be riding for.

Nor am I in TX nor would I probably be physicaly qualified to work on a drill ship.

However I love your rants when I can't work anymore and have to get on disability I will think fondly of how much it will piss you off to think you are paying my bills. The good news for you is if I get in this new study that day is probably 30 years away since I'm not the kind to quit working and live off someone else when I don't have to.

Of course at the rate things are going by the time I need disability it will no longer exist, so I'll be the guy in the wheel chair greating people in walmart, having had to sell my house to meet my medical bills and eating cat food despite having paid into FICA since I was 14. That will allow you to smile when you walk past me thinking of how much the Republicans have screwed yet one more hard working American.

Wow, Spud totally pwns that assclown!

TAO,

Thanks for the low key rant. My son who works for BIG OIL is riding in the MS150 and I'm doubling my contribution in his name now that I learned about someone who is deserving of help.

Well thanks then Thom.

Who knows seems like every few years a new DMD (disease modifying drug) comes out. When I first found out that I had MS it was probably 10 years till wheelchair, then 20 now possibly 30 by the time 30 rolls around maybe they will have it up to 40 or 50 at which point I will be old enough to not care.

The big thing that has me excited is the new one I may be trying is a pill not an injection. That is sweet since right now I live with little welts all through my body. Getting away from that is worth being a guiena pig. Glad to have one more person helping fund the research that may bring the next improvement to the DMD's or heck who knows maybe even a cure.

However yep blame the guy who makes 6 bucks an hour for our problems, the Repubs are already doing it was just a matter of time before the Dems did it too. Remember we must bow to our corporate masters.
